I just don't really understand the mentality in not releasing a brand new laptop for the Back To School promotion. Surely far more people would buy a new laptop in that period knowing that a new one won't come out a couple months later?

Yep, it is quite ridiculous. A friend and I are in a difficult position not just because of the promotion, but also the timing of the release overall - we start university in September so we need laptops by then, but Apple may not launch the MBP until October. I've persuaded my friend to wait and cope without a computer, but it's a terrible business decision by Apple; most people wouldn't be patient to this extent, and would just buy a Skylake Windows laptop!

The original retina macbook pro was released under the back to school program 4 years ago. Not saying that they'll definitely announce at WWDC, but the back to school program shouldn't worry anyone.

Ah ok, that's good to know, thanks! So even if Apple doesn't release it for a long time and I get very frustrated, at least I'll have shiny Beats headphones to cheer myself up.

Exactly the same issue for me. Need it before uni, let's just hope it happens!

Man the biggest problem with back to school in my country is that they don't offer custom macs on website, only presets, and I would want a maxed out MBP. Going to miss that sweet discount and free beats.
Kinda sucks.

The Iris Pro 580 has more computing power than the current R9 M370X which sounds great but will have to share an envelope of 45W with the CPU (instead of it's own 50W TDP). Does anyone know if it will end up getting throttled the moment it is asked to do anything? I don't know enough about iGPUs to know.

Thanks, if anyone has any facts on this. I'm not trolling or starting a war about GPUs.

Almost certainly it will end up being TDP limited. The exact amount though we cannot say right now.

i think with aan upcoming apple display with a built in dGPU it will be no longer the case, so it can resolve a lot of compromises that comes along with just an iGPU,like sharing ram etc when your Macbook is connected to the diplay

If the new rMBP charges via USB-C, would you be able to use an external battery pack similar to the ones you charge iPhones with? Or is there a limitation to the power USB-C can output?

is based on what apple wants..for example Hp spectre it can be charged ONLY with their own charger, even if its an universal usb-c

Yes. They have some for the Macbook.

EDIT: Here's one

Hi guys, regocije I come with new Leaks from DarkerGuy...

The 4 ports on the new rMBP are 2 TB3 and 2 USB-C, TB3 ports capable to suport Retina 5K Thunderbolt display (Available on Q4 or at rMBP'm16 launch).

The 16" model to have dGPU AMD Polaris 11 4GB.

both base models near 100$ cheaper, RAM/SSD options cheaper too.

Magic Toolbar having an actual display not just pre-drawn images, added functions include Siri on command.

Who is DarkerGuy? Not to sound like a pessimist, but any other "proof", i.e., from a website etc?

This sounds nice, but I'm not sure about the pricing... rMBP to be cheaper than 12' MB?

My concern with a GPU integrated into the display is that there's next to no chance it will be upgradeable. This would have 2 possible implications:
  1. having to replace your monitor every few years if you want improved graphics (assuming Apple begin updating their displays more than once every 5 years) which would severely gimp its utility, or
  2. a product that is outdated in ~1 year and then left unloved for years à la Mac Pro
eGPUs are really exciting to me, but sealing them in with a monitor doesn't seem like to solution to me.

All rMBPs just received a $100 price cut (higher end 15", a $200 price cut) via the back to school promotion, no educational credentials required. Just click the BTS link on the Apple front page and then click on the MacBook Pro picture.

Edit: Looks like all of the educational pricing is available to everyone...? Just went to purchase an iPad Pro, and it never asked me for any special credentials. I didn't actually purchase, but got to the payment page and it's still the educational pricing with the free earphones.

My main concern is that apple will probably not support other egpus if they have their own.

not a chance
Macbook starts with 256 ssd core M 8 gb ram
Macbook pro has 16 gb ram core i
Of course, but I was asking about the 13' MBP, which starts at 1299 and if the new model would be 100$ less( according to Mago's post), then it would be cheaper than 12 MB, which makes no sense.

yes but a mid-high end dGPU will be better and has enough vRAM for the next 3-4 years to support and help any apple notebook..i mean an polaris mid dGPU with 4 gb vram will be better than any macbook or macbook pro iGPU for the next years..and after 3-4 years will be obsolete but look at current Thunderbolt display that is 5 years old and after 3 years is became obsolete

I miss, DarknetGuy says all the ports on the MBP will be capable to deliver video upto 5K on TB3 upto 4K on USB-C only you can charge the Mac from any port.

DarknetGuy has no info on Thunderbolt display with integrated GPU, don't discard but only sure about std Thunderbolt 5K retina display, also has no info on TouchID integrated, but maybe part of the Magic Bar.

DarknetGuy is the nick I gave to some leaker that post at some .Onion site dedicated to trade insider info, her purpose is to gain reputation until offering bounty-paid exclusive leaks.

he/she 100% is confident about the new MBP to be launched at WWDC, but availability due AMD and other supply chain delays is expected for august.

PD. before you ask I deleted that .onion address on every computer, burned storage and dropped my pcs into an active volcano.

no its 100 less now and starts at 1299 from 1399..i think that wanted to say.
like apple tv 3 got his price cut before the release of apple tv 4 , is normal for apple to cut some price before upcoming models

what amd has to do with the delay?
