I'm talking about complaining about Apple because someone decided to wait 14 months for a laptop that's not out yet, as if that's somehow their fault.

As far as what you said, I'm sure they had their reasons, otherwise they would've used Broadwell. But what are we talking about really is 5-10% performance difference, which you'd never even notice in real world usage without benchmarks.

While I agree that waiting 14 mo is excessive, I disagree in Apple's reasons (admittedly they're all assumptions, but then again that's what this site is all about). I believe Apple's reason is nothing more then to milk their customers by seeing higher profit margins by leveraging legacy/discounted parts. A year after introducing Haswell systems they didn't even offer a modest $100 price cut knowing full well that those systems will be around for at least another year. It's greed, and that's why many people are frustrated.

I could not see things any more differently. They put out a 13" MBP with Broadwell, didn't they? If it was all about profit margins, then surely they would have kept Haswell in that machine too. And they did update the 15" MBP as well with the faster flash storage and they bumped the graphics card up as well. The quad core Broadwell chip was delayed for a lot longer than it should have been, and I think that Apple just got tired of waiting, saw that the Haswell 15" MBP was getting long in the tooth, and decided to do something to improve the machine (which they did) even if it used the same processor line.

As for the price, I don't know why anyone would expect a price cut. That's not Apple's model for Macs, and it never has been. They set a price when they introduce the product and it stays that way. Just look at the 2012 cMBP that they are still selling for 2016 prices. Are these price tactics greedy? I suppose, but I don't think that the sole reason for skipping Broadwell was to increase profit margins.

While I don't think it's likely that there's going to be a price cut this time, the initial prices of of MBA or rMBP were much higher than they are right now. Apple does cut prices if they see the need (i.e., depending on the price elasticity).

Apple hates the mac.
Apple don't hates the mac 100% sure
[doublepost=1464935576][/doublepost]from my point of view their attention is now more than ever focused on the mac than the iphone
[doublepost=1464935631][/doublepost]and of course the car

More focused on the mac than the iPhone? On which information do you rely on?
I hope you are right though.

How much improvement would be exhibited by the 2016 rMBP (over the 2015) i.e. would the increase in efficiency by the newer CPU and iGPU be comprised by the cooling power requirements and / or throttling due to the smaller profile?

Haswell to Skylake is not much of a jump in performance as far as I could tell looking at reviews and benchmarks, but it is more efficient. Where the new Macs could see a big step in performance is in graphics, as Intel's iGPUs are making large improvements generation on generation and the rumoured/hoped for (not by everyone I admit) 'Polaris' graphics from AMD is also a two generational leap from the current chip due to it's new fabrication (14nm vs 28nm, they skipped 20nm). I don't know if the current chips and iGPUs get throttled during heavy use but I imagine it would be the same.

Apart from that they could introduce fancy new screen tech like on the iPad pro and update the ports. The hard drives are already best in class though that Samsung tech rumoured yesterday was amazing. Doubt we'll see any massive battery changes though Apple being Apple I imagine they will squeeze out an extra hour of performance to bring them in line with the Airs. Plus thinner/lighter. Think that's it?

I would not buy a car from Apple - even if there was one and i really wanted it. I would have to sell my right and left kidney, and then i would still only be able to get the base model with only 3 tires and no windshield.

edit: spelling

Yes, I know that, but they cut prices when they introduced new models and not during the middle of a product cycle. The MBA started off very high and when they announced the very first refresh is when they also lowered the price. They then lowered the price again when they announced the 2010 MBA as well. I can't think of a Mac in recent memory where they cut the price and didn't also redesign or refresh the actual product itself at the same time.

As for why the 15" MBP didn't get a cut when Apple launched the mid-2015 version, it's possible that the improvements and component upgrades that they put into it cancelled out any cost savings associated with using Haswell. It's also possible that it helped their profit margins too, but we just don't know enough to say that for sure?

If I wanna buy a car I don't wait for Apple. They should care about their existing customers and their baseline because If I see how they care about us, or for me as example for a loyal stupid customer, I would never buy a car of them.
you buy from rare to frequently - House, cars, devices
so if you want an electric car you wait for apple... meanwhile Mercedes e class is the way to go

Rmbp was 2200 and now is 2000 without redesign.

Apple Watch and Apple tv3 had price cuts without even a spec bump.

Well. Everyone in here acted like a little child after Serban said he would pm fantastic sneaks.
This thread went to a spamming-list.
I was happy after the mods cleaned the thread up and there was this list. So everyone would be happy. But then there are those other childs .... Who are 24/7 trying to get attention / wasting their time by taking over the list and delete everything. Ughhh..... bunch of kids are around here.

Btw. Even though Apple will announce and release their new rMBP. Are you guys really instantly buying it? As for me, Im going to wait for some tests, benchmarks, reviews. etc.
Because even Apple isnt expected to release the non-plus-ultra whatever anymore. Even they might crash things up. (ruining macbook by forcing ppl to transfer slowly to iPad ?)

Fully agree. the level of immaturity is sort of hilarious.

And personally, i'd be tempted to buy immediately, but hopefully i'll be able to resist the temptation long enough for reviews to come out ^^

There won't be any Macs anymore.
The rumors and photos you have seen are part of a new iPad Pro which features a unibody design and a special version of iOS.

If Apple does not want to build macbooks anymore and have those people usw iPad pros, it would make my decision on what to buy a lot easier :D Would probably get the zenbook 3 in the end of the year then. Right now, I am using my 2009 Dell Laptop because I am part of the mbp waiting movement. Had Vista on it, ran like ****, now have Win 10 installed and it runs pretty solid for a Win based Laptop that age.

I'm most likely going to buy it instantly - I have faith that Apple will release a good product, and if they release it in September/October, which seems unfortunately likely, I'll be desperate for a computer, so the second the (pre-)order button goes online, I'll be ready.

If, by some miracle, they release it in June I might wait for some reviews, like from The Verge, but it seems that a Q4 release is almost inevitable (until we actually get to Q4, and then get headlines like "Reports suggest new MacBook Pro is launching Q2 2017").

Yes. Honestly I have a very cheap i3 laptop and I want to upgrade to a 15/16'' Macbook. The alternative is going for a Dell XPS 15. I don't think Apple can do wrong with the laptop.

Worst case scenario OSX would be horrible and I'd just use windows, would still be as good of a laptop as the XPS, I think.

Apple hates the mac.

No, they don't hate it. But people should have realised by now that the Mac is not that important to Apple. Apple is all about the iPhone and iOS as it's what generates most of their revenue. Apple's computer business is more of a sideline business these days which is why the Mac & OS X are severely neglected.

Every 3 or 4 years Apple seem to throw out some major hardware refreshes (which we will see this year, I am still betting on Q3 2016), but people need to accept that what we get this year will have to serve for the next 3-4 years as it will only see minor incremental updates until the next major hardware refresh in 3-4 years time. The days of regular major hardware updates to the Mac are over.

It just goes to show that Apple are so reliant on the iPhone that should the iPhone ever crash and burn it will take most of Apple down with it. It's dangerous to have so much focus and importance on just one product.
