Guys, what if we don't like this new rMacBook Pro. What are your options. I've been thinking a lot about that. I've waited this long, and if they let me down, what should I purchase? I prefer OS X, however hate the rMB. So what do I have left?
don't worry, we will like the new rMBP. There is no other option for us unless you move to PC.

@Uni Grad That is an interesting thought, I feel like I'll probably like the new one overall even if they do take away magsafe, HDMI, and USB-A, but if it really isn't for me I don't think I could leave macOS. I'd probably just end up buying one of what is the current generation now.

Right. That would be the only option. Though how long will Apple continue to sell the current rMBP (until stock finishes?)?

iMac?

I can't see hating the rMBP, though. I must use OS X (or macOS or whatever), so I'm going to get an OS X device regardless. If for some odd reason the laptop sucks so much I won't get it, then I'll get an iMac, because ultimately I want a powerful OS X device, and the MB doesn't cut it.

I would like a notebook + external display setup, rather than bind myself to an iMac. I value the portability and mobility.

I would suggest one of the thinkpads, they are pretty solid machines and windows 10 is pretty decent.

Let me guess, only 2 USB-C ports on the 15" rMBP? And it's a crap shoot whether they even meet the latest rev? Man, I hate buying old technology, but that 15" 2015 rMBP keeps looking better and better. I just can't pull the trigger if something better is coming out before September...
I have the same dilemma as well! I don't want a computer with 2 ports! I have tons of old equipment which I plug regularly in my MBP and surely don't want to carry extra adapters with me all the time.
I'm expecting at least 1 thunderbolt/mdp, 1 usb-3, hdmi, and 1 ethernet ports or I'll also consider buying the 2015 rMbp

I'll either make myself like the new MBP or I'll buy a refurb 2015. Those are my options since I'm in love with Mac OS (and think Windows 10 is laughably bad). However, I honestly think that the new MBP will be a great machine if you can deal with the keyboard and USB-C only.

Nice question. This "problem" already came up to my mind, and probably I'll go with one of this two options:
- I'll force myself buy the next MBP even if I won't like
- I'll buy the old generation, hoping for a reasonable drop price (AHAHAHAHAHAH! Yeah, I know...)

Do you guys think that this OLED touch bar will make its way to the MacBook (say with a refreshed Kaby Lake model or Cannonlake model) or will Apple be pushing it as a Pro feature, or at least Pro perk?

I also wonder how it will affect battery life. Since it's OLED and they will only really need to power pixels that are lighter colors, then maybe it won't be a big hit to the energy efficiency of the machine?

Same here. This time the only true selling point is timing, current machines are truly perfect for my needs.
So either they release wonderful machines at a reasonable price (for being brand new) AND ship by mid July or I'll stick with a 2015 rMBP

Unless the touch bar is being implemented on all macOS devices, it'll highly likely end up being a gimmick. Developers won't be inclined to do much with it if the target is purely rMBP users.

So I'd guess it'll be implemented elsewhere, as well as on wireless/wired keyboards. But then, I'm biased against this touch bar, so I wouldn't be very happy with that.

Oh I've used Windows 10...its astonishing what they've done since 8. However it just doesnt appeal to me as much as Mac OS does.
I agree... As much as we complain about Apple that's nothing compared to the arrogance of MS that refuses to budge on live tiles and the start menu. I would guess that there's a lot of people like me that would like the option to make the Windows 10 UI look and feel exactly like Win 7.

That's the maximum in the standard, and not all products (hubs, dongles, docks) are required to meet that.

Actually, if you take a look at the spec sheets of a lot of these power passthrough hubs, you'll find that they don't support up to the full 100 W standard, but are limited to, say, 30 W or 60 W. I can't seem to find ones that do 100 W, and that's why I'm concerned.

My understanding is that most USB-C devices will be passive and will not be usable as power delivery sources, but the devices which are active should supply 100W (20V/5A) or 15W (5V/3A). The power delivery seems to be dynamic, selected by communication between devices. I assume that if a device can't support the 100W mode, it will act as a passive source and not deliver power at all to a laptop. Information is a bit thin on the ground at the moment so please take this with a pinch of salt.

I do agree with you, however if this is true, then it makes Apple's product releases this past year make less sense to me. If they plan on bringing the touch bar to Macs in general, then wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to build it into the MacBook from the very beginning? As it is, there is a chance that the MacBook won't have it for around another year at least, or maybe even more if they wait to do a redesign (perhaps with Cannonlake?), which will slow adoption.

Also, why would they have released the brand new Magic Keyboard last fall? Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to wait until they could bring the OLED bar to it, especially considering that Apple doesn't refresh their peripherals for desktops very much (the last keyboard was released in the 2009, I think)? So, Apple would have to obsolete the keyboard rapidly and give it an unusually short lifespan if they decide to come out with a Magic Keyboard 2 this fall.

It does make me laugh how we are speculating about possible economical, martketing, whatsoever reasons behind Apple decision to give us a OLED touch bar without even knowing if it is a troll or not! :D

We are taking for granted something that has just barely been rumored

I can't speak for anyone else, but it's because I'm crazy.

Yeah I was skeptical about it, until I saw the leaked chassis. There are clearly no cutouts for the function keys, and that region is slightly recessed. That is from what I, and many, concluded that the OLED rumor was in fact valid.

Forgive any duplication with this, but I've just seen this in the Apple Store:

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/H...nd-with-smart-connector-for-ipad-pro?fnode=37

An iPad Pro charging stand that uses the smart connector to actually charge the iPad.
Now, if we have hinted at the possibility of a smart connector style charger for the new MBP, could this be a good sign for that actually happening?
After all, the capability for the rMB charger to be used to fast charge the larger iPad Pro must mean similarity in their battery designs. After that, it can't be a huge leap to expect a similar offering in the new MBP can it?

If the oled strip has anything to do with Siri, the yes I am quite sure it will end up in all Mac keyboards during next year. So I also think we see a separate keyboard with that oled thing launching the same time as desktop Macs models are refreshed.

Yes, I think you are right. Though, the MacBook would need a mini redesign because the space where the function keys are is too small, and the space above it is dedicated to the speaker grille.

The leaked rMBP chassis photo had an awkward empty space where the current Magsafe is, so maybe.
But this smart connector on a laptop would look funny, so I wouldn't consider it likely. Although, I would certainly welcome it because it'll help ease the adapter mess the new rMBP is going to create.
