If they announce a display, there have to be computers to go along with it that can power it (since that display-with-GPU idea was completely discredited).

It will be a USB-C display, combined with the immediate discontinuation of every Mac except the MacBook ;)

In all seriousness though, if they did launch a USB-C display I'd probably buy that and a rMB. A large reason I'm waiting for the Pro is that I love my current TBD and don't want to replace it with a different monitor. If I could have a rMB and a compatible Apple monitor, I would seriously consider it. Since I now carry my laptop every day as opposed to maybe once a week five years ago, I value portability much more greatly than when I last bought a laptop.

Yeah, I agree. Right now, the more uninformed will go and buy a MBP, as they won't have a clue about how old it is. I've been discouraging people, but most have no idea. But if Apple pre-announces it by more than a month or two, it would seriously harm their sales, as the MBP page on their website would be "look at this amazing thing coming soon!!". So I don't see them pre-announcing it for a Q4 release... but I also don't see them announcing it in September, as that's the iPhone 7/Watch 2/iPad Pro 2 time. So I just don't know what they're doing... I just hope we won't be waiting until March 2017, as that seems like the next stage event without any dominating announcements so far.

I agree, plenty of people will just think "I need a new laptop, ooh maybe a mac". they would probably go as far as seeing 2.x GHz vs 2.x from another machine and maybe i5 vs i7, but I doubt they would understand Haswell vs Broadwell vs Skylake etc. Even a good proportion of "pros" (people focused more on design, photography etc, rather than computing), probably wouldn't think of the difference.

These things matter to us, but we're just a drop in the Apple ocean.

Anyway. only a few hours to go....

I've been lurking around page 450, with the occasional post. I just found out I have an interview at 11 AM PST so I will be unable to watch the event. I already have a maxed out 2015 13" in my cart on the education site just in case they don't announce it today. I need a new laptop for college and for music production!

And rMBP basic models are available for pickup or delivery on Wednesday which is just as normal in the Netherlands. My expectations are now digging a hole in the basement.

Well, so you should
"threw yourself down into the unknown depths below..."

Thunderbolt Display personal pickup removed? Red herring?

or maybe an ARG.
Could you imagine, if Apple release the new MBP through an ARG?!
o_O

I've been lurking this thread for a long time now and have waited too long for Skylake. If we don't get any announcement I might just buy baseline 15".

Can anybody tell me if baseline 15" withOUT the dGPU will be okay to edit 4K videos?

I'm wondering, is there another place on the internet where people like us are waiting for the new MacBook Pro, or are we the only community where everybody comes to?
On a pop music forum I frequent there is a strangely similar thread about Britney Spears' new album which is almost certainly coming. I howled when someone there used the phrase "well respected insider".

I don't think so. I think the iGPU in the 15'' is worse than the one in the 13'' at the moment.

I'd stay away from that.

As far as I'm concerned, if no Mac's are presented today I'm really divided between going for the top 15'' or going for a Dell XPS.

I don't care that much for the new CPU's and all, I'm just waiting because I wanted a little more oomph out of the GPU side of the Mac. I know Mac's are not designed for gaming but I would like to be able to do the ocasional game of CSGO/League of Legends, at 60+ fps on max settings. Don't really know if the R9 M370X can work with that.

The Macbook Pro 15" of 2015 can easily drive it at Full HD with 120 fps over an external Display. Even 4k with 20-30 fps is possible. ;-)
