I knew I'd be angry but unsurprised if Apple didn't release new hardware, but the "one more thing" thing made me furious. I was reading the live coverage and let out a squeal when I caught a glimpse of the phrase, only to find out the "thing" was a video. More proof that Apple isn't what it used to be: it's just another company now.

I think this is the beginning of the end for the Mac. It has already happened with the Mac Pro and Mac Mini - now it's the MacBook Pro's turn. Their focus is clearly on iOS. Soon they will release Xcode for iPad and push developers over there.

I just hope that people will not download the Swift Playground app for iPad. All Apple cares about are app downloads and I hope if those are low it might open their eyes, however doubtful that may be.

I bet money that the complete swift toolchain INCLUDING the Apple Frameworks to link against already runs on Linux. Apple is probably building OSX and iOS on cheap Linux boxes for a long time.

Actually, you never replied back. Stalk? But you're the one who said "see you in March" and never checked back! Wonder why.

Never checked back? You wanted me to personally reply to you? Please man, why think you're so special. Anywho I never left the thread and posted this just a few days ago, again you stalk my initial post and gloss over my later ones:

I've gotten out of the prediction game after being oh so very wrong once.

So since you didn't get the hint the first time, please troll someone else bro, it aint cute.

what's the sense of investing in a dead end platform?

I really wish people wouldn't say this - it makes zero business sense. Here are some rough numbers to illustrate why:

Apple sold around 18 million Macs last year, generating about $23 billion in sales. Apple's share of the PC market is around 7.5% (and growing). There are around 240 million PCs being sold per year at the moment and the total market is worth something like $200 billion.

Even if the PC market halves over the next 10 years that still means sales of 1.8 billion PCs over the next 10 years. If Apple can grab 10% of those sales over the next 10 years, which is doable, it stands to make sales of $230 billion over the next 10 years. Sorry, but that's not small change, even for Apple. If they really pulled their fingers out of their asses and took 15% of the market, and PC sales remained stable at today's numbers, they could make sales of $460 billion over the next ten years. But they need to fight for that, which they are clearly not doing at the moment.

The Apple Watch, by comparison, is selling around 10 million units a year, at let's say $400 each on average, which means $4 billion in sales per year. And these sales are FALLING drastically (much harder than PC sales). See:

So no... it makes NO SENSE for Apple to focus on watches instead of Macs, unless you think the watches will magically start selling at least 10x more than they do today. Right now they are ignoring a cash cow to focus on a failed project.

A slide inadvertently appeared and Craig hastily had to backtrack, quipping that there was 'one more thing' to go over. It wasn't really meant to be anything special, it was just him trying to gloss over an error in the presentation in a humorous way.

With regards to the new MBPs, I'm over the initial disappointment. It's obvious something is coming, eventually, so I just hope it's worth the wait. The chassis leak and Q4 report at least gives us a bit to go on. In the mean time, iOS 10 is quite fun to play around on (though they killed Slide to Unlock - how did I miss that?) and Sierra may make the wait on my 2011 MBP a little more bearable. This was nowhere near as bad as the March event, even if that did have hardware.

I'm in the same boat: I've been waiting for like a year to make my purchase, always thinking that the refresh was around the corner... Obviously nobody could have forseen that Apple would let the MBP/MBA fall behind the Skylake race so bad...

Anyway, the problem is that I dont have any other alternative but to keep on waiting. I've been playing with the idea of switching to a Windows machine now that their hardware has caught up with Apple standards of quality (I particularly like the Dell XPS 13" and the Surface Book)... BUT I cant kid myself: I'm chained to OSX because 1) I still find OSX significantly more pleasent to use than Windows 10, and 2) most of my daily applications are OSX only and I dont like the Windows counterparts.

So... yup, as much as I'm VERY ready to update my old MBA 13", I am stuck in the waiting game... probably like most of you :)

Luckily the software I use is multiplatform, so I didn't think it twice to jump out of OSX. What I'm surprised to find is that Windows 10 is not a pain in the ass (just need some tweaks the first day, but like any other OS), and it actually offers great software that doesn't even exist for Mac (i.e Solidworks). There's no more reason to me to stick on OSX. If Apple File System is a game changer, and Apple routes back to Macs, I'll probably come back, otherwise Apple is over for me.

You know, I marvel at Apple's ability to intertwine all of their products and their features in order to get people to spend more money and lock them in the ecosystem.

"Here...buy this Apple Watch. But, just know that you have to have an iPhone to use it!"

"You have an iPhone, so you might as well just buy a Mac to go along with it because it's so integrated and will let you answer calls and send texts right from your laptop! That'll be $2,499.99 please!"

"We are giving you this awesome new feature that'll allow you to remotely unlock your Macs! But...you'll have to buy an Apple Watch to use it. Oh, you'll also need an iPhone too, because the Apple Watch relies on it for everything. Don't you just love how clever we are?"

Seriously, it's a thing of brilliance.

The very thought of a 2017 release is horrifying... I need it for university in September. Life will get difficult.

Yeah, I'm debating whether or not this redesign is going to be worth it. It's been unofficially delayed at least twice now and I think there's a high likelyhood it's getting held back because it's not even living up to Apple's declining standards for stability. It might be better to just get one of last year's models on discount.

To be fair number of errors in this WWDC is astonishing. How many times they've stammered on the next word to say, this "one more thing" error, the failure on "slam" message, trying to make us nerds rap along... Either I haven't paid this much attention to Steve's presentations or there were much fewer errors and if they happened they were handled much better.

Wow. So we're probably going to have to wait till October/November now for the rMBP. By then the Skylake 28W processors will be around 6 months old, and i'm sure the Kaby Lake 28W variants won't be too far away.

As another poster was saying, don't give in and buy a brand new rMBP/MB/MBA etc, if you really need a machine, try and get a good deal for a used one, there are tonnes available on eBay etc, just make sure it is has applecare, isn't stolen etc.

This whole wait was never truly about the processor anyway. We all suspected a redesign was coming. The processor itself is the least important and exciting part of the new machine.

I could care less if they put quad-core Broadwells in the damn thing. I just want a powerful machine with Apple's new design language.

Might as well change the title. September? more like next year. Seems the MBP is adopting the MacPro update cycles.
Waiting for Kabylake MBP thread

Honestly we should start wondering for how long they will keep supporting the Pro product line, it seems very low priority and I am not sure it is a good investment for the future at this point.

All Apple has to ****ing do is replace all USB A and TB2 ports on the current Pro w/ TB3. Change the keyboard to the Magic Keyboard. Update to Skylake. Put in IPP and rMB display. Thats ****ing it. 'll be happy with that. That wouldve been a 10-20 minute presentation today. Thats all they have to do to keep me as a customer. But NO, they want me to wait instead.

Tbh right now September doesnt seem likely either. They have to release an iPhone, Apple Watch, new iPads. MacBooks just dont seem likely. ill give them some room, perhaps Skylake is faulty and is troublesome and they need time for optimization.

I love how they improved iMessage, a feature that is totally obsolete for most users. There is almost no person I message via iMessage and I don't know many that do. Improving it makes as much sense as improving the "Call" app.
Just like Siri, they even stated it themselves, the number of Siri-requests tends to nothing compared to the amount of devices etc.

I really don’t understand the priorities Apple is setting and doing the one more thing thingy was almost like a direct abasement, knowing that there must be loads of people waiting for the new MacBook. Just like the moment when -I think Ivy- made fun of the users of old (windows)laptops and the lady in the front row shook here head in disgust, back at the march event.

The only thing I noticed, is the picture of the guy in the development video macrumors posted on the live coverage, the laptop doesn’t have a oled bar but doesn’t have the same ports as any MacBook I can think of, guess I have to find that very video.

Oh well, I'll think about getting a windows laptop, my MacBook is 8.4 years old now, i got to replace it and hence apple fails to deliver, I have to switch to a company that doesn’t.

Peace guys, I'm out and maybe, just maybe, wake me up, when september ends.

edit:// found the video, was an MacBook Air, so not even that last light at the end of the tunnel left.

At this rate Dell is going to release the next version of the xps 15 before the next mbp comes out. I was close to buying the xps if it wasn't for the sub-par battery life.

Seriously.... Tim Cook is a freaking retard. I don't care if he is a well educated entrepreneur with global fame and prestige. Looking from recent history, it is obvious that Apple is going towards more "for-profit" road rather than being an "innovator". Tim Cook is just a greedy mother fu**** who likes to play games with his loyal customers

Unless they really decide to do a "software event" and "hardware event", the latter being in the fall and running through all the hardware categories just like they did with the software this time.
