Waiting for Skylake MBP thread

And thats why I think Apple will fail, not in the general sense. They're rushing this transition, although I can't comment on it surely, unless I were too see iOS 14 or whatever its called. They'll fail their computing lineup. Though they'll be going strong in mobile and perhaps make a hit in the automobile industry.

I am not sure if they are rushing. If anything, they are farting around. If they wanted the iPad to take over ASAP they would add Finder for iOS and add cursor support, and that would remove a lot of barriers and make a transition easier.

They clearly put a lot of effort and expense into creating the Retina MacBook, so it's clear that they see some sort of future for the Mac years out. The desktop, on the other hand, I think will be less likely. They don't care much about the Mac Pro and Mac Mini, and I could see them trying to transition iMac customers to a MacBook + 5k Thunderbolt 3 display some day soon.

I remember Oct 2008 first MBP w/ aluminum unibody. The greatest! ( according to Apple) bought one in Nov. then Feb comes and a huge upgrade much faster processor, double the ram, memory card reader, and several other nice upgrades, same price. I lost my mind! I called to complain and try to do something about it and they told me to go to hell. I can see a replay of that coming this fall. If Surface book comes in 15" soon, I am gone. I will also be looking at other 15 laptops, sick of Apple games.

Precisely this. Imagine if they release the redesign in October/November, as I can't see them launching in september with iPhone/iPad/Possible Apple watch etc, within a few months, say around feburary/march, Kaby lake 28W should be available, as Kaby lake is due out Q3/Q4 2016, so by Q2 2017 I can see it being available, as remember, Kaby lake is simply a stop gap until cannon lake.

For me, i'm going to buy used, and if Microsoft can make the surface book lighter or come up with an even lighter line of proper notebooks, I may jump ship, as the only thing keeping me tied to Mac OS is the trackpad, and the surface book comes very close to being on par with MacBooks.

If anybody wants a 2015 brand new still in plastic wrap 15" with 1TB hard drive PM me. Im selling mine i just got from work. Ill wait it out for the new models.

Hm... In the same vein, if anyone wants a MBP 2015 15" with < 10 battery cycles and no damages... You know who to call

Knew Apple will disappoint the real fan base....switched to Vaio Flip in January as my mbp 09' finally couldn't make it till the new mbp comes out.
Now I'm a happy man with my Vaio Flip.
Buddies you should check that out if you dun mind to pay premium for a nice looking and high performance machine!

i have 3 of the family's MBPs to replace, 2008, 2010, and 2011...
Been holding out since last August. Added ram and ssd to the older ones to make them run better, but batteries are getting really bad, some random errors, and they're all non retina. Really need replacement options Apple

Okay, so I was over exaggerating the disappointment of this WWDC. I think the strongest part of this conference was watchOS. Being able to instantly open 3rd party apps and also text by swiping are absolutely huge. My Apple Watch has been on my wrist every day since I purchased it months ago, and I can only see this experience getting stronger.

iOS was the biggest bummer. No dark mode is one of the biggest disappointments. Why overcomplicate Messages? People liked it for the simplicity. Now I'll have to deal with the spams of full-screen effects.

Also, nothing to really help the image of an iPad being the new PC (ex. file transfers).

Overall, a very MEH WWDC. I am in no rush for the new MBP, but I know plenty of people who are trying to use the educational discounts, and to have to decide between top of the line Windows computers to Haswell/Broadwell machines (Which are selling at a much more premium price than the former) is embarrassing.

Going Dell Shopping, will be the first time I actually buy a PC for myself (not work related) since 2001 when I "Switched" I still might get a rMBP in the future, but will have till then to see how I like the Dell, Windows, etc.. I know with a Xeon, 64GB, and 3TB of SSD storage I am going to like the power and space for photos work.

They will come out with a really cool 15" MBP that weighs about 1lb less, and is thinner. At least I hope.
(I don't care about thin, but it usually means lighter).

Just hope they don't decide USB is old tech and omit it. It would be ironic.....them not wanting to use old tech.....ha ha ha

I think they're having issues with the current redesign. Maybe Skylake? Maybe that OLED Touch Bar? That's why they've delayed it.
So fingers crossed for October event! I'm preparing myself for October, so September, if it does happen, its a surprise, and if not, itll not be a disappointment.

But... (from the 10.12 release notes):

"APFS volumes in macOS 10.12 are case sensitive, cannot be shared over the network via AFP, do not support Time Machine backups, and cannot be used in conjunction with a Fusion Drive or as a startup volume."

Dang, no support for Time Machine back ups too? What is the point of Time Machine then in macOS?

I get it.

But If I'm going to spend 2k+ $$$ for a laptop, I want something that is up to date. Not something that came out 2 years ago

This. I'm not going to pay $2500 for an outdated processor and device. That shouldn't be so hard to understand. Has nothing to do with "butthurt".

I also think some of the "complainers about complainers" are taking us too seriously. No one is claiming we're going to die or be homeless because there's no new MBP. We're just disappointed about the lack of something we've been waiting for for months and months now.

I use my MBP for work so I tend to upgrade every year with maxed out specs. When I bought my 2015" MBP I was a bit annoyed at how old the processor was LAST year. I can't imaging buying a MBP this year with the same processor. Yikes! This isn't a $900 notebook. This is a $2000 to $3000 (depending on specs) notebook investment with a Haswell processor.

Astonishing, really.

Jesus H Christ this is a lot of complaining, despite all the proven insiders saying in advance that the SOFTWARE Converence would be focused only on SOFTWARE.
Lot´s of nice features that developers can integrate into their apps, and all those attending where there because of SOFTWARE.
I wanted a new MBP. My main use is audio recording/mixing and some coding. But I know that the WWDC is not the event for me. I still found improved watchOS to be a nice update, lot´s of other cool stuff I can´t wait to try on my watch, phone and MBA. Looks like I even get this one last version of macOS for my late 2009 iMac.

I´ll be annoyed that I have to postpone my MBP purchase, cause it will get the job done BETTER, than my current machines. But NO-ONE making a living working on their Macs can claim that suddenly in the past year they´ve hit a brick wall and can no longer work to pay their bills using the current hardware form Apple.

Everybody wants better, faster, stronger. But there are 18M Macs sold a year, and lots of them go to people who make their main income from those machines. So Apple most defiantly caters to the PRO market. As Does windows.

Complaining about there not being a MBP- model ready for you to start University is crazy. There is no University in the world that has a curriculum that requires a Skylake equipped laptop for you to attend. Yeah, you´d rather future proof. I get it. But claiming that you are out of luck is just wrong.

We all WANT the latest CPU so we can enable the LATEST features of whatever software we use to do our job (that requires a Mac), but there is NOT ONE piece of software that won´t let you do the intended tasks with any of the current model MBP´s, iMacs or Mac Pro´s.
The Apple- guys talked for 2 hours about software features at a developer conference. Wish they had the time (and ready hardware) to talk about Macs. But I´ve waited for 6 months now, and as long as I can do my work on my current Macs, I´ll be just fine. As will all of you.

The outrage on this thread is just insane.

Go ahead and buy a 2013 Car at 2016 prices and tell me 'hey, at least it gets me from point A to B'. Some of us are in need of a laptop, and spending $2k+ for a 15" with a processor from 2013 is ridiculous!

The problem with the current situation is.....

Apple doesn't communicate with us.
If we knew the new MacBook Pro was likely to be October or Feb next year we could plan for it. Some could wait it out others might take a different route.

People complain because they have outdated tech, non upgradeable machines which they want to update. They wait months and months for event after event and Apple doesn't even have the courtesy to layout their roadmap or let users know if they are even bothering to invest in the MBP line-up.

I converted to the Apple eco-system in 2010 yet their arrogance and focus doesn't seem to be computers anymore so despite how much I love OSX over Windows im going to have to go back to a manufacturer that is consistent and up to date with their tech/spec's and updates to their product line.

Maybe i'll even try to Hackintosh it on the side :D

Good luck all ;)

The way I see it...Microsofts just warming up, while Apple flickers away in computing.

Mmmkay... warming up in acquisitions (e.g. LinkedIn, Minecraft). lol

It's okay to be frustrated with the wait but some people need to keep common sense. Any reasonable person wouldn't be expecting Apple to announce new hardware in WWDC.

lack of communication is a strategy
if they tell you it's coming in oct- sales now drop
that's why they dont do that
