Just registered to type this. I've been a longtime Windows and Linux user (and if it wasn't for Office I'd have already left for good) but the fact of the matter is this:
Microsoft for whatever reason believesd, people want forced updates, spyware and cloud first services on their PCs, which for me couldn't be further from the truth. My current laptop is from Sony Vaio 2011 the battery life is laughable (90 minutes with average brightness!), and a new battery would set me back 350 $ of course I'm not going to pay that for a 5 year old machine.
So I've looked at other options:
1. Surface Pro 4: What the hell Microsoft? A gorgeaus and full fleged computer in a great format but it can't run without Bluescreens and stability issues? Sorry great idea but the execution has me very worried and there is no MS store to be found in Austria, so maybe the SP 5 can do something about it.
2. Surfacebook: Great idea but even worse execution for n insane pricetag given the hardware-software problems. 1.800 bucks and issues plus dealing with an outsourced customer service? Serioulsy that's just insane.
3. Dell XPS: I honestly think Dell has the closest thing to a MBP right now. I love their "borderless" design and display technology but their customer service has gone downhill, the trackpad has some scrolling issues and worst of all it runs Windows 10. An hybrid OS forcing me to update, redo my default programs and uninstalls software without permission is not my idea of an OS that is mine. Also I would love a better resolution but I fail to see the need for a touchscreen on notebooks (maybe I'm wrong...), so paying almost + 300 $ for something I won't ever use feels false and at that pricerange I'm almost in the 15' MBP category.
4. MBP: I want the aluminium chasis, a gorgeaus display and thanks to Bootcamp I can just install my beloved Windows7, Linux and won't have to ever look back. So why haven't I bought one already? Well here is the thing, the MBP could need a user replaceable battery and in my mind a 4k screen, plus a display port. So my hopes for yesterday were high and sadly I must say, I'm very disappointed sure I could buy a second hand one but I'd rather pay a bit more and have the latest and greatest for my needs. Also enough with the thinner = better stuff...I've seen it with a few devices now it's not always the case the SP 4, XPS and the MBA are way too athin for my liking. I mean, I get it Apple wants to release the MBP alongside Sierra but whats so bad about releasing it now and then update it to Sierra?
So yeah I guess I have to wait but for sure won't wait till next year because of the very bad battery life of my Vaio. Btw. I honestly fear the 2 tech giants (MS + Apple) should reconsider their focus, there is a reason why IoS and WinMobile are for mobile devices so why not focus on the more productivity orientated stuff? You know the stuff people are willing to pay top dollar for? So sick of that cloud, mobile first trend of the last few years.
A stupid watch, fitness trackers are gimmicky and "nice to have" but they won't allow anyone to be more productive.
