I think I'm going to just order the 2015 version of rMBP 13", the only real question now is, is it worth to buy the 16gb ram version over the 512gb ssd version?

From what Sierra was showing in terms of offloading things into the cloud, 16GB might make more sense - external HD and disc space in cloud is cheap, if you don't need too many files at any one time on the SSD.

I have a 256g ssd and with a win7 vm and Diablo3 installed (including PTR), i have about 130 gigs left. What do people store on their Macs ? I always wonder. Then again i own a NAS with 7TB capacity which i can always reach via Internet.

But this only counts half imo, because you don't get a Mac with 7tb anyways. 1TB is max and i value my kidneys more than that much space :)

In short - 16GB all the way.

You shouldn't have to worry about viruses/blue-screens or glitches on Windows. Just don't go on stupid websites (likewise on a Mac), also it has a built in anti-virus (Windows Defender) and I'm not sure what you're talking about. The Dell XPS 13 was praised with great build quality and screen quality by every reviewer. We both know OSX is not perfect either, their update/app-store is a lottery if you actually get to update your Mac without having to reinstall it completely and now with the hardware being nearly 500 days outdated .. I have no say in recommending a Mac to anyone, still great laptops. However, for the money Apple is asking for you could get better.

I meant you have to worry about viruses/crashes more on Windows than Apple, not that it happens all the time. E.g. The XPS 13 will blue screen if you try and import 4K video to edit - the MBP is fine despite its older hardware. The XPS 13 screen is worse than the Retina unless you get the QHD which cripples the battery (particularly the 15" which becomes unusable). I suppose build quality/aesthetics are subjective. I prefer the trackpad and keyboard of the MBP as well as the hinges and general build.

Don't get me wrong I liked it a lot and it's probably the best Windows ultrabook available, I just think it's not quite up to the MBP.

I will have a good look at the Razer next.

Guys, what do you say about a 1 TB SSD, 4,0 GHZ i7, 16 GB RAM Macbook Pro 2015 for 3000€ ?
I am able to get 10% education discount and the beats solo 2 are worth 250-300€.

I calculated it, 3000€ would be the price :x

If im being honest? Its not a good price. Its a good ~900 over an equivalent Windows PC. Ask yourself if OSX means that much to you.

it's the normal price with student's discount, isn't it?

if you want all those bto bear in mind that the dgpu comes almost for free at this point.
(some people would argue that the igpu only version is superior because of less thermal stress).
unless you want those beats headphones, expect their resale value to be much lower.

Apple is killing us, it is hard to be patient -.-

No it's not the normal price with education discount. I am living in Austria and the Macbook Pro 15 starts at 2800€ WITHOUT education discount.

Apple thank you for being a loyal customer.

Yeah, it's kinda sad that there really aren't any good alternatives to the 2015 rMBP model even with Windows laptops (which I'm totally ok with, I would run Windows 10 on my rMBP anyway). The closest thing would be Dell XPS 13, but it's just too expensive in here since Dell doesn't sell them directly and retailers force you to buy three year on-site warranty with it that increases the price by 700€. Also, the Dell XPS 13 keyboards sucks when compared to the rMBP anyway.

I'm from Italy, so we should have the same prices, the maxed out config (dgpu) is 3211€ while with only igpu is 3150€.
but you're right, i am seeing the Apple on Campus discount, which is higher than the student discount (~13% vs 8%).
If you're in a university (or know someone who does...) you should check if you can obtain that extra bit of saving.

The music and movies you've got on your NAS... And that I have on my (bigger than yours!) NAS :)

As expected, the UK back-to-school promotion has just launched and only runs until 5th September... which means that when the MBP eventually launches, I won't have it in time for university and I'll miss out on free Beats. First world problem - and I understand wanting to shift old stock - but still annoying.

Just noticed it ends September 5th, right before the September keynote. Man, you can't make this BS up. As my mother would say, "nothing is free in this world".

I'm considering these alternatives to the 15" MBP:

  • Thinkpad P50
  • HP ZBook Studio G3
  • MSI WS60

On the Thinkpad and ZBook I can get a Skylake Xeon! I doubt this CPU be used in the new MBP.

I can also get matte displays (can't stand glossy). User replaceable parts. 32GB RAM (64GB on the P50). An Nvidia dGPU so I can run CUDA. OpenCL is a nice but it doesn't have support in machine learning. And they all have better cooling than the MBP.

The MSI WS60 is what the BOXX SLM is based on.

My workflow used to be MBP + Xserves, but with Apple discontinuing the Xserve I had to move to Linux servers. Switching now from my MBP to Linux will be much easier. Thanks Apple.

An anorexic laptop in this class is not important to me because I use two laptops: one powerful and one light (MBA). I would be so happy with a workstation class 15" MBP the size of the PowerBook G4 but that's not going to happen.

What do you need it for? I'd drop to a 512gb SSD and pick up an external drive on the cheap. That's whatever $700 usd turns out to be. Same with i5 vs i7. That's another $150 or $200. Do you really need all that?

Man ... I switch from Macbooks for the first time 2 years ago for a Zenbook and it was by far my worst laptop experience. I sold it 2 weeks ago for new rMbp and nothing...
I am seriously considering the rMB, the back 2 school with the free beats headphones is really tempting... And selling it when the second generation of refreshed rMbp in 2017 comes out...

When does this type of offer usually end?
