anything past 2012 is RETINA! so no need to do the "rMBP" as many do, it's just a 2016 MBP !

That 13" without retina wants to have a word with you, though has probably been up there for a few decades now. (No, I won't stop typing rMBP until the day happens when there really are zero non-retinas on the Apple Store)

Anyone else in the very annoying situation of going back to school in September and deciding whether to wait? I nearly bought the XPS 13 yesterday but after playing around on it I just can't go back to Windows, worrying about viruses and blue screens and glitches, inferior trackpad and screen quality and general build.

Tempted to just take the loss and buy the 2015 13" MBP or lose an inch of screen and get the 12" MacBook.

What are people's explanations for the delay? Are they working on a massive redesign which is time consuming or are they just shifting attention away from Mac? In a month the update will be double Apple's average time (500 days vs 250).

You shouldn't have to worry about viruses/blue-screens or glitches on Windows. Just don't go on stupid websites (likewise on a Mac), also it has a built in anti-virus (Windows Defender) and I'm not sure what you're talking about. The Dell XPS 13 was praised with great build quality and screen quality by every reviewer. We both know OSX is not perfect either, their update/app-store is a lottery if you actually get to update your Mac without having to reinstall it completely and now with the hardware being nearly 500 days outdated .. I have no say in recommending a Mac to anyone, still great laptops. However, for the money Apple is asking for you could get better.

Other Windows options are the Razer Blade Stealth, Razer Blade 14", Dell XPS 13/15, HP Spectre, new Asus Zen line up etc.

For the record, I payed $1549 (AUD) for the Razer Blade Stealth 12.5":
128 GB SSD
i7-6500u (Skylake)
QHD (2560x1440) IPS screen with Touch
RGB Keyboard
Aluminium Chassis
Lighter and thinner
Glass Trackpad.
USB-C to connect to an external GPU. (Razer Core)

The Macbook Pro 13" Starts here at $1999 (AUD) with 128gb SSD as well and only has an i5 broadwell CPU with no RGB keyboard and no ability to connect to an external GPU.

The HTC 10 sold it to me for upgrading from my iPhone to Android, the new Apple TV is stupidly over-priced, grabbed an Nvidia box with a Chromecast, and now this entire WWDC letdown (surprise surprise) with hardware and childish messaging software updates.

Have a great time waiting till September for another let down, then wait till Q4 for over-priced inferior Mac to hit the market several months later while the market has moved onto the next generation already, although it might have a space grey option, who knows !

Goodbye Apple, it was nice knowing you.

It depends really. Define stronger. With these chips you always get the iGPU which is certainly better on the Skylake. You also have a better bang/watt ratio on the Skylakes. For sustained performance like running a VM the entire day the i5/Broadwell is better.

All this 'outdated' hardware talk is blown way out of proportions imo. Most people wouldnt be able to tell the difference if they work on a Broadwell with 3.1 Ghz or a Skylake with 3.3. Sure the abscence of a TB3 port would be noticeable but who really NEEDS this now. Most people cry about the lack of sd cards and USBA ports :D Price? Sure - but then again, Apple was never known for selling cheap hardware.

I tried hard to like Windows 10 but no chance. OSX certainly has its flaws and so does Apple but no way in hell would i give up the Apple eco system to be tortured with the Windows world. Buying a Razer or any other Windows machine would be going back in time to me and is not an option at all - Apple eco system is just too good to pass up on. For me anyways.

Now back to the waiting until fall to see what new shiny toys we might get :)

No chance a redesigned MBP is coming at any point before the iPhone event in September. They will want to give this some stage time and they aren't going to hold another event between then and now.

And thats fine, for some people buying a Mac is like going backwards in time too because they prefer Linux/Windows or whatever other OS they use. Me experiencing all of them for all these years I can say they have their pros and cons, and in my opinion Mac USED to be worth every penny they were out there for but right now they are extremely over-priced with nothing innovate what so ever, meaning I cannot recommend them to anyone anymore.

Macs used to be famous for the build quality, high DPI screen, glass trackpad, the all rounder stuff about a laptop, they used to have great port selection with the TB2 ports despite them always being behind with GPU/CPU compared to the market but now.. They lack in all those other features and now its just a laptop like another Windows ultrabook (Razer Blade Stealth), except this time the Mac costs more and offers less.

The competition used to suck and Apple was dominant, now its the other way around.

Oh nice, I got a mail from apple  Back to school discount (free beats) started.. I would take it instantly if they released the MBP Skylake.. So sad :(

Presumably MBPs will start selling like hot bread when the redesign comes out. I doubt Apple is willing to part with a pair of Beats headphones for each new MBP that comes out.

For me, that's a clear indication that we won't see a redesign before the back to school promotion is over.

True, atleast the MBP 2015 are more affordable thanks to the beats. Education discounts + selling beats = save up some money.

I already blew the money i saved for the new MBP like 2 or 3 times :(. Leaving in not the wealthiest parts of Europe with Macs being wayyy overpriced, im strongly considering a Win machine now. Or better yet, no laptop at all...

The more closed they have become with their code, especially iOS, the worse they have gotten at optimization. Fact. Not debatable.
On the f!king contrary, especially for iOS. The more they try to adopt from droid the worse it gets. And as far as optimization goes, noone is even close dude!
BTW OSX moving away from professionals is just completely understandable as 90% of mac users are not professionals.

I think this fits in nicely with TouchID on rMBP. If the new iPhone 7 home button is meant to be touch sensitive then it could feature as part of the OLED bar on the rMBP. I personally just hope they don't replace it with the power button.. I prefer those to be physical.

Also it fits in nicely with those kext entries found in macOS Sierra, there was a kIOHIDBiometric entries that referenced to 'double tap', 'tap', 'triple tap' etc. so touchID probably IS integrated as a touch sensitive button on the OLED bar. :(

I have the same issue so I always buy my Apple gear when I travel (London/NY). That way I get an English keyboard too. If the Polish keyboard is different and you want that, then it is just a slight hassle to get the keys replaced. (Or you might be able to order ahead with Polish keyboard)

As expected, the UK back-to-school promotion has just launched and only runs until 5th September... which means that when the MBP eventually launches, I won't have it in time for university and I'll miss out on free Beats. First world problem - and I understand wanting to shift old stock - but still annoying.

I don't think any German has ever sent me an iMessage.

I can send you one if you like. :D But I live in Austria since a year now, so I don't know if it counts for you... ;)

You are right everyone with an iPhone normally uses WhatsApp in Germany and in Austria too. But not if they write me a message. Because I always refused to install it and forced them to use iMessage instead. Most of them did not even know, that it is not just for SMS and they don't have to pay for an SMS or even MMS if they send a picture or video.

The Android users I forced to install Telegram because it always had a native OS X client and I only type messages on my Mac when I am at home. It even works with my mother's Windows 7.8 phone.

Luckily I don't know anyone who has Android because they hate Apple in any way, they just wanted a cheap phone. So if iMessage might come to Android with the iPhone 7 release I can even get rid of Telegram.

But back to topic:

I want to see at least a 16-inch MBP before my Late 2011 17-inch dies! At the moment it looks like I still have enough time. But you could never know, especially with this dGPU issue I always read about but never experienced myself.

Macs in Poland are sold with English keyboard. I prefer the American one, with small enter.
