I wonder if Apple will do a surprise small release sometime in July or August (in the form of either a press release or a small press conference). I know, I'm just being hopeful but waiting for October just seems very dumb to me. They have let the 2015 models sit on shelves for far too long. Not to mention, they are missing the entire back to school rush.

As a 3D artist and App developer, I am in desperate need of a new laptop with more power. I even looked into the Razer laptops but I just couldn't bring myself to be forced back into using Windows after having such a great experience with Mac OS (even though switching to Windows would allow me to go back to using 3Ds Max instead of being stuck with Maya).

If the chips are available, I just don't understand why Apple would risk loosing sales by holding off the launch until fall.

Man, that's wishful thinking. My last hope was WWDC, now the earliest I can see something coming out will be September, most likely October. Apple is getting rid of inventory with the back to school promo. If I am not mistaken will be over in September.
I can't wait, I have a project that starts next week and I must have a laptop because is remotely. I am buying an used 15" MBP on Craigslist just to keep me afloat until the announcement. Then, sell it and get the new one. I'll get a hit on depreciation, but it's all good because I will make money out of it.
It is what it is. The lame part is the huge gap between updates now on the Mac line. I feel even more for Mac Pro and Mac Mini folks. It's just plain sucks how Apple doesn't seem to give a damn.

83 pages to catch up on..... o_O

Anyone care to point me to the most relevant posts over the past week?

Pages 659 to 693 is all live commentary on WWDC. Probably don't need to read that :p A couple pages back someone posted a link to hints about Polaris in MacOS Sierra--that's about the latest news we've had (though now I'm having trouble finding that).

Basically nothing other than "nothing's happening until fall probably".

The day has finally come !

I'm ready to order my new MacBook Pro today. I will not be disappointed. This is going to be an incredible keynote full of innovative new products and revolutionary new software. Let's go!!!

Did they announce the Macbook Pros yet?

HE SAID ONE MORE THING

The one more thing is a MOVIE about stickers and emojis...

Look at this video by unbox therapy of keyboard with OLED strip. Interesting stuff for when Apple decides to finally launch a redesign.

Guys, I want to be real clear when I say that:

Apple created an entirely new file system that works for every device they make.

This is in addition to the new Programming language they made. But sure, Apple is just spiraling down in complacency.

You know that there's a whole week of sessions around all of the topics discussed yesterday right? tell me you know that. please.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but there were reports of the following hints in the new macOS Sierra:

- Polaris GPU drivers
- TouchID API reference

- OLED API commands
- New Apple File System
- RAID Management in Disk Utility

EDIT: Added TouchID API ref.

Ooooh more hints about the OLED touch bar coming out of the developer site

Everybody always says this apple is clearing out stock. No offense to this poster, but from everything I read all the time, Tim Cooks background, apples excellent research, and just years and years of following Apple....I really don't think apple ever needs to clear inventory, or has much stockpiled.....the industry I work in can predict customer purchasing based on customer volume with an accuracy of more than 98%....it's a huge company, and part of my job is to ensure this accuracy. I bet Apple is close to 99%

Given Apples track record of keeping things in stock at launch.... I doubt that... Just out of curiosity.. Is the iPhone SE space grey in stock yet?

Edit: really did get curious and checked... And would you believe it... Still not in stock apart from daily refills for in Store pick up. Current estimates online delivery are 6-11 July... This is what 3 months after announcement?

Apple is all about profit and milking it. Summer historically have no product announcements. The latest rumors is the next MBP will be a redesigned one. That said Apple will hold it after summer. So WWDC was my last hope but now it points to either September/October for a launch. I would love to be wrong but I really don't see a nMBP happening until then. That's why I am buying a used one next week.

What do you think offering big discounts and incentives on current models and waiting till after that promo to release a new model really is then? i imagine closer to august time frames for the current macbook pros will start to slip because they won't be ordering anymore because of the expected release in sept/october. all signs point to clearing of old stock

I haven't read the whole thread, but i recently turned my mbp13 (late 2013) in because of staingate.

The repair program only lasts until october (for older purchases).
Which brought to my mind the thought, that apple will release a mbp in october (sadly this late :( ).
I do think this because:

1. apple will stop producing the then old retina displays
2. new mbps, produced right now, hopefully have the coating fixed, which means apple doesn't have to keep as many spare parts in stock and the repair agreement clearly states, that they can use refurbished parts.
3. production will change to the new model, and it will probably be economically unviable to produce old models.
4. they will then change the whole production process to newer technologies (usb-c / butterfly keyboard) (economies of scale)

But i also thought they would never release a keyboard without butterfly mechanism, because it would be cheaper to only produce one type of switch. (which they did with the new magic keyboard)

So if this thought is correct they won't release a mbp until october and are already halting/reducing production of the current mbp retina.

the references to oled, touchID mean we will probably see the new macbook pros only after the official release of Sierra, is that correct? then i'll come back here around october or so, unless major new leaks appear.

Just a thought while we all wait, I happened to see the fabled Dell XPS 13/15 in a tech store the other day, and damn that thing looked cheap. Not being an Apple fanboy here, I actually approached it with a very open mind and I was astonished at how plasticky and edgy the thing is. Because of the small bezel the form factor is amazing, but the bezel that it does have is beyond ugly. The whole thing is plastic, sticks out terribly and overall looks like a super cheap laptop.

If I had to choose between a 13'' rMBP and the Dell, money and OS not being a consideration, don't think the XPS would get my pick. It's a very hyped up machine but it's not even the nicest looking Windows laptop. The Surface Book looks a hell of a lot nicer even with that hinge.

I think we'd all love a 13'' thinner MBP with the performance of a $3000 gaming desktop, but I guess this is something we'll likely never get.

And as much as Apple annoy us all with the lack of hardware updates, when it comes to the perfect laptop, Apple's design and OS reliability are pretty much unparalleled.

P.S. To illustrate my point, here's an image to show what I mean with the Dell:

Apple have refreshed Macbooks mid-way through the "back to school" promotion in the past...

I still hope I would get one in early Aug. Otherwise, I might be stuck with my lovely late 13 rMBP 13 till 2017. Eww.

Aye. While that is true, there's a difference between a refresh and a redesign. I think Apple needs to cash in on the new rMBPs as much as possible, given how poorly the Mac has been doing in recent quarters.

Therefore, most likely no redesign during the BTS promotion.

I have found an offer for the 13 rMBP with 512gb/8gb Ram and 2.9 processor for 1700€. Retail Price here is Greece is 2200€.
My problem is that I can't upgrade ram and I want to keep this laptop for more than 5 years!
Usage - web and iOS development.

Do you think 8gb will be enough in the near future?
