To be exact, Apple has not discontinued the TBD, they simply stopped producing them. Existing stock are still available for purchase via normal channels.

Why has Apple stopped manufacturing? Because they needed to free up capacity to build new hardware.

You think companies who discontinues products, just throw their rest supply in the trash? Until Apple announces a replacement, it is discontinued.

They sent out a press release saying it's been discontinued. It's over. And good thing, the poor thing was on life support for years. The nurses were probably having a dead pool!

No they don't. At the same time, they don't sell them any more, at least not via the normal channels. Try to buy 2015 MB after the 2016 MB was released.

Technology loses value over time. Simple fact that exists for every technology company, Apple is no exception. Yet the current MBPs are being sold for the same price as when they were released over a year ago. So, no, it's NOT worth what they're selling it for.

It depends what you're comparing it to. Prices are relative. Apple haven't dropped the price because it's still beating competition. The only laptop that perhaps beats it is more expensive (Surface Book). But if you compare it to what we think the future 2016 model will be like (and assuming prices are the same) then yeah it's not worth it if you can wait.

Intend on skipping the 1st gen MBP. If MB Air is anything to go by, 2nd gen is where the stability is at.

I'm starting to wonder if I should do the same thing. In hindsight, 1st generation Mac notebook chassis have arguably been a little "meh" if we look at the track record:

- Titanium PowerBook G4 (bad hinges)
- Polycarbonate Macbook (replaced by unibody)
- Macbook Air (silly USB flap)
- Unibody Macbook Pro (replaced with built-in battery very next revision + bad GPUs)
- 13" Retina Macbook Pro (chassis shrunk in very next revision)
- Retina Macbook (lots of complaints about 1 port)

I'm currently using a Late-2013 rMBP 15" (Haswell, Iris Pro + GT750m, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) but want something more portable. Maybe instead of getting the upcoming 2016 Skylake 13" I should pick up a slightly used 2015 13" rMBP and wait till the subsequent revision.

I couldn't resist. Thanks to Brexit I could buy a 13" Pro/8/128 for 1124 euro with P&P. Here in the NL it costs 1449 from Apple and 1329 in cheapest online store.

I was eyeing the rMB 1.2/512 for the price of 1.1/256. But then I thought "yay! I will just restore from my SD card Time Machine! Oh. Wait. I won't. I'll buy a dongle. Erm. No." And the idea of a new MBP without SD card, Magsafe and regular USB doesn't appeal to me all that much.

I'm going to hang around anyway because I can return the laptop within 30 days so in the very unlikely case Apple upgrade soon I might rethink things. But I am not interested in a 4xUSB-C, no Magsafe, no SD laptop even if it's 20% faster.

(Also this is the best thread on Macrumors, so of course I am not going anywhere.)

They don't discontinue every Mac line every year (well, every other year apparently) line to intro a new one.

Since we are talking about the iPhone, the fact Apple is apparently continuing to use Lightning on their phones is a massive disappointment.
i don't want to sound too negative but: what about apple nowadays is not a massive disappointment?
sure we have a lot of watch bands to choose from, but...

Where did you buy it from?

Oh wow – the reseller has changed. I bought from a different one. Then when I wrote "all gone" it wasn't available with shipping to NL. Now it's here again, but only one left.

Now I'm wondering whether Apple is trying to get rid of them because of imminent refresh. DAMN YOU, APPLE.

Been going on awhile, think the sellers don't pay VAT/import US models...I'm considering getting a 15 and selling when/if the new one's come out ( I'm desperate man!)

Just bought a 15" Retina MBP.

Will upgrade in 18 months.

I almost convinced myself of this too but then I realized I was lying to myself. If that was what I truly intended, I could have and should have bought the 2015 15" a long time ago. And I sure as hell wouldn't have spent so much time agonizing in this forum. No. I've waited this long. I will wait (and agonize) some more.

Apple should include some "I survived waiting for Skylake" stickers with the first run of the new MBPs to congratulate those of us who did not succumb.

Ok, so I just invested 218€ in my old 2010 15 MBP to get over 3 months
(from 128 to 256 ssd, 4gb to 8gb ram, cleaning included)
Now it has to be september !
