Sold my 2014 MacBook Pro retina 15 during WWDC week for some good coin, thinking the Skylakes would be out soonish. In the meantime I bought a Surface Pro 4 - it's great that I can play Overwatch on the thing (a Blizzard game that's sadly console and PC only).
At this rate, it will come out in October.

Manufacturers who never even bothered with TB1 and TB2 now chomping at the bit since TB3 is dirt cheap. Apple used to be the only one (with rare exception) now they're the only one who havent shown up.

I can't help but laugh at people whining that they don't have thunderbolt 3 in their Mac yet, when they don't have a single accessory to make use of it anyway.

saw this was posted right after mine but I really hope it wasn't directed at me. Trying to keep it cordial. there are several TB3 devices out there, today, for average consumers to enjoy (display adapters, portable enclosures) all the way up to high performance solutions(eGPU, High Capacity Storage, High Perf Storage). vendors can't even begin to test mac compatibility until Apple actually shows up with a TB3 mac. some of it won't work, some will work out of the box and some may need firmware updates to be compatible. So why would someone buy a TB3 device that may or may not work when TB3 macs are finally released?

so, no TB3 accessories can be released until a TB3 mac is.

Whenever the new macbook pros come out, do you guys expect them to sell out like how iphones do? If I miss out when they first release I dont want to have to wait a while for them to get new shipments in

How do I get to see that? Coupon or something? What I see at the front page for $1099.00:
- Windows 10 Home
- $100 rebate (already counted on the final price from $1199.00)
- 15.6 1080p screen
- i7-6700HQ
- GTX 960M 4GB
- 8GB DDR4-2133
- 1TB mechanical Hard Drive.

I was just curious, but jesus I can't... the experience only shopping for that laptop, is just, no. Edgy colors, everything black and red, 'bad ass' lines, icons, stamps, logos, the upgrades selection options are noisy and it's hard to see what's the best for your laptop. "Optiboost", the hell... bloatware incoming.

Overall of what I think I know:
- Screen resolution is not good. Even the 17" ones are also 1080p.
- 8GB of RAM is not enough, at least for me. You can upgrade though.
- Mechanical hard drive (main) is a big no. This is going to be the biggest performance bottleneck and what should be upgraded from the get-go.
- Video card is good.
- No idea what's the actual battery life of this bulky beast.

Am I being biased and Apple-blinded?
If somebody wants to chime in, would like to hear a some elses opinion.
You're right about all of your complaints, to be sure. Before I became a "fanboy" in 2007, I was a gamer. I don't care about most of that stuff. I prefer longer battery life (reviews say about 3.5 hours when gaming), but the screen resolution isn't a big deal to me - other people say it's super important. The lines of the machine are abrupt and aggressive. The website is irritating and difficult to navigate.

But they do offer a $10 option to wipe the hard drive and install the OS clean. I took that option when I ordered mine.

Here is the "specials" section:

http://www.ibuypower.com/Site/LandingPage/LaptopSale

I added a256GB 2200MB/s SSD, the extra 8GB ram (only $39! So nice to not be gouged to install an extra 8GB!) and put in a cheaper 7200 rpm hdd for the "main drive". There are 5% off coupons on the web, so total cost was just over $1300.

I'm done. Screw you and your f'n $2500 3-year old haswell rMBP, Apple.

Absolutely. It may not be iPhone bad (because it's the iPhone and people are crazy in love) but there is a lot of pent up demand. The higher tier units may not sell out as fast as the lower end ones but I can see the shipping times slipping up to a month, month and a half easily. If you want to take a look at the time when the retina Macbook pro first came out, look here: https://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/1...slip-to-3-4-weeks-as-initial-shipments-begin/
Timeline:
Monday: Ships Immediately
~24 Hrs: 2-3 Weeks
~48 Hrs: 3-4 Weeks

Curious as to what your guys thoughts are about the "New" Razer Blade? I'm just about done waiting for this Macbook and that's looking like my second choice. Thoughts, arguments, anything? Thanks

I don't think I even saw your post. I wan't referring to anyone in particular. Just the mindset that people need Thunderbolt 3 ASAP or their life is going to fall apart. I'm really excited about the possibilities of Thunderbolt 3 as well, but it will take time for the market to react to the tech in a meaningful way.

Can the OP update the name of this thread to "Waiting for Kaby Lake MBP thread" ?
No.

I recall when I ordered my 2012 rMBP immediately after they were made available and had to wait almost a month for delivery. So yeah, I expect them to sell out fairly quickly (especially considering we're experiencing the longest time between refreshes).

The higher end BTO units actually took a month the same day of availability. I grabbed a maxed out one and didn't get it till mid July.

If you're not tied to macOS and the Apple ecosystem grab the Razer. There's nothing that valuable with a Mac anymore. Win10 is great (as a stand alone platform). Only reason I'm sticking this out is for the cohesive relationship between macOS/iOS/watchOS, otherwise I'd of bailed long ago.

No.

How long you think it'll take TB3/USB-C to take effect? I already have a wish list on Amazon of quiet a few USB-C devices, so I'm not sure what you're talking about in regards to availability.

I've had my TB1 equipped rMBP for 4 years. Know how many TB devices I bought in 4 years? ONE, the Apple Ethernet adapter. And yet here I am ready to buy two docks, and a display for USB-C before I even received the machine. So yeah, Apple's falling behind.

In regards to availability once the MBPs are for sale... If I'm planning on buying through Best Buy, are 3rd party retailers the last to get the product? Like if delivery is pushed back for a month due to demand from Apple stores/website, do such 3rd party retailers get the actual product after that month? Or do they have some stock available same day as Apple stores?

i am in the same boat. i have a gift card to best buy for 1500$. Usually best buy gets things before any other place I've noticed (headphones/apple watch).

Yep - hard decision - trade USB-A, Magsafe and SD-Card reader against Oled bar and touch-id. Im still undecided.

I received my "new" MBP 13" Retina yesterday and really love it. It was manufactured in June.
The only thing I will probably miss on the new machines is touch id.
So long and thanks for all the fish. :)

I think the new ones will have more to offer than just an OLED touch bar, touchID and sky lake - I predict all around improvements.

One major negative flaw of the rMBP 13" is the sharp front below keyboard which just kills the wrist if you aren't in an elevated position which was just unacceptable for me (something that isn't a problem on the air. 15" and the 12" rMB) - I'm almost certain that wil be fixed and it is worth waiting for that alone.

He was last seen in 2013 !!
So tired of waiting ...

He called Apple to ask about skylake, they put him on hold.

meanwhile I installed the Samsung nvme driver for the new SM961 SSD 1TB in my XPS 15 :

nevertheless I hope Apple will keep up and bring us a new great rMBPro with touchscreen or even better 'tablet mode' with Pen input ..., cool Skylake Prozessor and TB3 able to use an external Graphics adapter

USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are not the same. I'm speaking about Thunderbolt 3.

Apple was one of, if not the, first mainstream manufacturers to adopt USB type C. It just wasn't on the specific laptop we're all waiting for.

How about we rename the thread "Waiting for the perfect computer for every single one of the people reading this thread"

I couldn't care less about Skylake, I just don't want a computer that's going to be "the old version" a few months after I buy it. Right now I think the OLED/fingerprint-reader rumour is far more sexy than "10% performance improvement per watt in certain controlled tests when using multicore apps" or whatever Skylake has.

I'm moving from a 2013 dual core to a 2016/17 quad core - my performance is going to be far better no matter what :)
