The only reason why I think Apple hasn't at least refreshed the MacBook Pro line at WWDC with Skylake is because they're pushing the rMB really hard. It's their vision of the future laptop and they know it's going to sell better if it's their only laptop that has been updated recently and has the latest CPUs.

Maybe it's because of delays from Intel and AMD, but I'm willing to bet it's also because of the push for the rMB! If you don't believe, just take a look at the macOS Sierra Preview page, the only laptop that is featured on that page is the rMB...

If so, that's an idiotic approach. It's like if mcdonalds said they would only give you day-old, somewhat stale, reheated hamburgers ... but telling you the macfish sandwich would be fresh - in the attempt to lure people to buy the macfish.

The more likely result of that stupid strategy would be people saying "F-U" and walking out.

Well, its blatantly obvious they are trying to push the rMB. They were using the rMB in the all of previews, photos, demos of macOS Sierra at WWDC. Heck, as you said; going off the macOS Sierra page alone, you'd think the only Mac that exists is the rMB.

I think the real reason is because Timmy knows the real money is in the iToys.

While iPhones make allot of money, Macs make as much money for Apple as iPads if not more IIRC. Yet, Apple seems bent on pushing the iPad Pro. It feels like Timmy just can't accept that allot of people still want conventional computers.

Well, it's not really the same. Also, Apple buyers won't jump ship very easily! I look at the rMB daily and sort of wish I got it in April when they refreshed it and stopped worrying about when Apple comes out with the new rMBPs. I know it's powerful enough for me, the portability is absolutely great, it's just that the screen is a bit too small for my liking. That's just me though, I suspect a lot of people have bought one simply because they got sick of waiting for the Pro.

Wow, you guys are still waiting.... I feel for you...
BUT I'm sure the new pros will be amazing.

I am only a bit concerned about the oled strip.... meh.

Well, it was the only new Mac. It makes sense that they didn't want to show an older one in the videos.

But it does kind of scare me that their only laptop may end up being one run on Core M processors :(

I seriously doubt many macbook pro buyers would go for the rMB under any circumstances. It remains the weakest laptop in a line of other very outdated laptops, the lack of ports, the compromises in battery life to get it that thin, the keyboard, etc.
The fact that you're ok with it is fine, I just think for a huge numbers of us, the major compromises made to lose a little bit of thickness and weight was no where near worth it.

On a deeper level, the rMB represents to some of us the distrubing direction Apple has gone: A myopic focus on thiness, at the expense of everything else.

Well if Apple screws up the Pro with an OLED strip...then I may have to consider the rMB for my portable OSX needs...and hopefully they make a larger variant of it.

Why are so many opposed to the OLED strip? What are the negatives of it? Removing physical function keys?

Because it's typical to hate on something without it being released, or know how it will actually be implemented. Where do you live? This is like one of the ten commandments here on Macrumors. Get with the program.

Soldering in RAM is not an Apple thing. It's a form factor thing. All other competing of laptops at that price point and form factor are also soldered in.
Yeah but I don't think it would be as common/even happen if Apple hadn't done it. Similar to how it is with camera bumps, and now the headphone jack.

I see your point, I do however see quite a few people over here and on reddit too posting, asking if they need the 15" Pro or if the 13" would suffice and for a large majority of them I would say even the 12" is enough. Yes, it's not going to be a speed demon, but for most tasks, it's enough. What I'm trying to say is that not everyone who is considering a rMBP is necessarily a "Pro". For a lot of these people, the portability of the rMB would be of a much higher benefit than the pretty small speed increase(at least when you're talking about the rMB vs 13" rMBP).

At a conference with IT professionals this week (ChefCon) and am absolutely shocked at the number of Macs (mostly rMBPs) that are in use. I'd say about 70% of the room. Yet here Apple sits neglecting those people. Insane.
Are all of them waiting on a redesigned Macbook Pro?

The few I've spoken to mentioned they're waiting on an upgrade, but not like I'm going to do a poll of the room. It's safe to assume that IT personnel are aware of the more intricate components of their devices and would therefore not spend money on something with a 3 year old CPU.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can tell you why I am not looking forward to it. Either the strip will permanently display the function icons as we know them, in which case it will be a more power-hungry and less tactile replacement of the physical keys... OR... the function icons will disappear from the strip at times, in order to display other information, in which case we have lost immediate access to volume controls, etc. Seems like a lose-lose proposition to me.

Agreed. I'm not too optimistic about this change, BUT Apple still has one of the best UX for almost all their products, so I'm somewhat hopeful they got it right.

I wonder if there would be an option to make a certain key config stick or disable input from applications sort of how we can put notifications in do not disturb mode. If it isn't out at the gate it could probably be implemented in a later update (if everyone is frustrated with it initially).

I just NEED 32GB of RAM. Yes. Need.
Running OS X with a software client.
While running Windows with the corresponding server... sometimes TWO of them if need be. Also an InDesign Server at the same time.
For this... 16GB were still okayish.

Now... I had to add Linux to the mix... to run another Server there... resulting in 1GB or more swaps.

All the other things...well... I'd REALLY LOVE to have them... but the RAM I NEED.

Otherwise I could theoretically also buy a current rMBP.
But... to stay at 16GB like I am now? No thanks!

I'm pretty sure there will be a 3.5" jack. The leaked supposed chassis images showed one and doing away with it would do away with optical audio (which I never got to use because I never knew MBPs had it!) The phone won't have one, but I'm expecting the new MBP to still have the jack.

So at this point it seems safe to say that there will be no 3.5 mm jack?
No.
If so, then how are these Jaybirds that are on sale from Amazon for Bluetooth headphones?
I have the original Jaybird bluebuds X and they are very good. I use them almost every day for working out. So I'd say these are a good pick. You should know that they are releasing an X3 later this year, and just released a pair called Freedom that at least 9to5Mac seemed to like. Amazon's is still a great deal though, and the headphones are a great set.
