With that said, considering we got a MacBook leak around the same time, a September launch along with the iPhone seems likely. I'm scared for the 15". I hate the fact that I want a 15" sometimes, because it appears be the last on the MacBook totem pole for the past couple of years.

I hope they don't disapoint. Really want a next gen 15''

Had a meeting with client today - they brought in a shiny new macbook pro 15". It looked great next to my 2011 MBP... but I had to really try hard not to tell them they have paid a premium price for a laptop with some parts that are 2+ years old. They just switched from Windows machine (had a sony), and even commented "It cost me 3x as much as a windows laptop", but everyone in our offices uses Mac"

My Samsung laptop from 2008 finally died yesterday. Probably under the burden that Windows 10 is.
I really want to switch over to a MBP now, but I refuse to spend good money on old technology. When I buy a laptop I want it to last more than 5yrs.
I had a look at some windows laptops today and then had to stop, because I'd have to deal with Windows 10 again and it seems that the built quality of most high street brands is just not good enough.
Windows 10's constant updating, the search function not working and all the other crap you have to deal with isn't worth a penny.
I really hope Apple releases the new MBPs soon until then I only have my iPad Pro and my husbands 2006 MBP...UGH!
If you can wait for 4+ months for the new MBP then I guess you don't really need it. If my MBP 2011 dies I'll buy a MBP the next day no mater what. Even if it's 2020 and Apple hasn't yet released the skylake MBP :)

Guys, stop redefining "need". That's what they want... To split us up and destroy us all separately!
Wait, I'm confused...

I'd say that the border separating need and want when it comes to the new MBPs is gone now lol
I'm a lifetime Windows user, coming from Croatia where Macs in general are as rare as the ****s Timmie gives to MBP users nowadays, and have managed to save up enough £££ now to go for the maxed out 15" MBP when it hits the shelves...

I got so immersed into macOS (OS X) lately, despite using a Windows laptop, that I'm just dying for this thing to come out. Well, that and I do need more power for video editing in Premiere Pro (my current laptop is HP, 3 years old, AMD A8 w 8GB RAM and some built in GPU) and struggles with editing. Very excited to invest into the new machine when it comes around.

Now, regarding the release date, I don't know if Apple have any patterns, but it seems like whenever the year starts with a March event, it ends with the September event- without October. Also, if there is no March event, you get WWDC, September and October events... So maybe it is September for MBPs and quiet updates for the rest of the Mac lineup?

Well, you know, the current MBP is perfectly fine and if it meets the client's needs, it doesn't matter whether the hardware is two years old. The current macbooks are still pretty good machines and have more than enough power for 95% of their users...

Some people buy what they need and don't care whether it's the latest bling, or not. Not everyone is concerned with getting the best bang for the buck...

Wonderful, my 11-months-old Samsung SSD 850 evo just broke. No drive detected on reboot. USB enclosure and other computer doesn't help.
Let's invest another 130€ in a 2012 cMBP 13'', that's great. Just great.

I still don't get why everyone thought Windows 8 was so bad but now everyone's jumping on the Windows 10 bandwagon. Um... They're pretty much the same OS where one has a weird launch screen and one has a moldy old start menu. (I've still never used a MacOS/OSX machine, so I can't compare Mac to Windows PCs).

Anyway... I almost broke down and stopped waiting today, but not for another laptop. I almost took the small portion of my investment account tagged for the new MBP (my first Mac) and spent it on... A DJI Phantom 4. I was one click away from buying but I turned back because I really want my PC (yes, Macs are technically PCs) to be mobile so I can take my laptop to work at the hospital and get my real work (novel writing) or hobby work (photography, drone video editing, etc) done during my down times.

But I really wish I could have told myself in March that the Skylake MBP would be coming out no earlier than September. I could have the Phantom 4 now and still have enough time to rejigger my investments/tech fund to buy the MBP when it finally came out.

I've been waiting very patiently (look at my past posts) for the MBP so I can switch away from my desktop, but now I'm about to start writing a new novel and I really wanted to use Ulysses instead of starting a new project in Scrivener. I'm not going to buy a 2015 MBP just because I want a Mac, and I figure I'm a more traditional buyer as opposed to the more upgrade-focused posters on this forum.
Windows 10 is super dope

I recently purchased a P4 myself (though i'm not sure why you'd take money geared towards a laptop and spend it on a P4, as those are two completely
Because pissing your consumer by forcing them to buy outdated overpriced hardware isn't a so good idea in the long run.

I buy the 2015 because my MBP is my working machine and that my 2011 MBP had already done to repair twice because of dGPU pb (At the times the problem appears in late 2014 I had to got it reballed because Apple was saying there were no pb with the dGPU and I can't stay without my computer).

Where I lives an entry level MBP 15" cost around 6600$ (yes, you read it right).
Luckily I travel to Europe twice a years where the price are more affordable. So knowing that I'll return in January 2016, when I went there in 08/15 I decided to wait for the October update. But it didn't came.
So I planned to buy the 2016 MBP in in 08/16. You know the rest of the story: I am paying 3200€ for a more than one year old hardware.

So, why I am buying? As I wrote earlier, I use my computer to work and I can't change all my workflow and buy all the licences of the software I am using like this. Right now I HAVE to stay with Apple and I HAD to change my computer (mainly because of the dGPU problem...). No choice.

So Yes, I am pissed. I have an apple TV, a MacMini, 2 iPad, 3 iPhone, a MBP11 (an now a MBP2015) and was planing to buy an apple watch.

But now, what I am really thinking is how I will change my workflow in the futur so I WILL NOT depend of Apple again.

And as I am thinking to move from the Mac, I am also think if it won't be interesting to move from iPhone to a Galaxy edge next year (I really liked the function of edge and the screen is gorgeous). And if the android tablet sync well with an android phone, I will not see any point to buy an also overpriced iPad.

And taking all of this consideration, I will not recommend Apple so fervently anymore.

So yes, it was a dumb move from Tim and it's team. Loyalty and trust are hard to build.

I'm with you. I agree 100%. I just wish more and more people would jump away from Apple to give Tim Cook and company a nice big kick to the you know what. But I'm whooped and just can't get myself to bail. Timing is working out for me (so far) as my 2012 rMBP is getting a bit outdated, but has sufficed for day to day operations.

At the end of the day, if we're all honest here, if a vast majority of people stick things out and upgrade when they're finally released, then Cook did right by his shareholders (not his customers) and this will usher in a new standard of 1+ yr upgrade cycles.

Tech and vacations are my only major expenses that can't be budgeted on a monthly basis, and thus those funds stay in my investment accounts until ready. I set aside $2500 in liquid assets with no early withdrawal penalty (but with a lower percentage return) in order to have funds ready back in March (though I mostly anticipated June for the actual release). I could have kept those funds in my high yield investments but I'm not suffering for having them out. I just wish I would have known so I could have spent those funds and taken out another chunk in, say, September.

Also Samsung to keep in mind is the display ratio it seems like Apple and MS to some extend are the only two companies knowing that 4:3 for productivity devices beats 16:9 widesreen

Seems like there's a huge group of us here running 2011's waiting to upgrade. I see that year mentioned more than any other year.
I'm in the same boat just with a Sony Vaio from that year but it's just up big and I'm not willing to pay the 350 bucks for a 90 minute lasting battery lol

umm... if it is only 11 months old... how about warranty?

Doesn't Samsung even over a couple of YEARS of warranty? Just get it replaced!

Regardless of when it is launched, the reality is that many of us will still be waiting months before we get our hands on the actual device based on Apples recent track record of botched product launches. It took them 2+ months to get the iPhone SE launch in order (and that's with all the parts laying around), I can't imagine the roller coaster they got planned for the MBPs.

Sigh...

How do you like the transition to the 12'' screen?

I have to say, I probably did damage to my eyes using the 11 inch as much as I did over the last 4 years. I am having a real tough time seeing close up and that 11 inch screen wasnt retina as you know. It was never meant to be my laptop, as I got it in 2012, expecting to get a MBP in 13, but waited until now.

So to answer your question, the 12 inch Retina Display is soothing to my eyes and I have adjusted the sizes so there is no strain on my eyes at all now. As soon as the new 15 inch MBP comes out, I am sure my eyes will love that even more.

For emailing, web browsing, even some light Lightroom work, the MacBook does great. The keyboard is amazing, form factor is very comfortable to use. First one had a bent case, Apple replaced it right away of course.

So fantastic upgrade to the 12 inch Retina from the 11 inch non-retina (which had the LG display, not the Samsung so the color was bah)

Thanks for asking!

Well, you know, while retina might be a nice to have, not having retina doesn't mean you can't use a computer screen ...

But it's one of those things where once you use it, you never want to go back. It's the same with SSDs. I will never ever use a computer without an SSD again. Some things are such a significant upgrade that they sort of represent a stage of progress.

Anyway, the point of my comment was not to deride people still using cMBPs, but to indicate that the retina screen was one of the main reasons I liked using an MBP and why I am so ardently waiting for the new model (and that I couldn't imagine not having it)--those of you who've never owned an rMBP are in for a huge upgrade :D

Aye. Spent a week of my holidays with my family. Sister has a 2014 rMBP. The difference between her machine and my 2010 MBP is just.. staggering.

Can't wait for my skylake.

My feelings exactly I've been infatuated with how gorgeous macOS is for a couple years now, but couldn't justify the price tag to switch from my Windows HP with only 6 gigs of RAM (5 years old). I hope it lives up to my hype and isn't the old adage, "Grass is greener on the other side". Regardless an investment in an Apple device always yields a pretty price, much better than the $20 my laptops worth now.

So how likely are the new RMBP's to be 14 in and 16 in respectively? I've heard that thrown around a lot, but I'm not sure if there any substance behind those claims, or if it is just wishful thinking. If so, I'd probably just go with the 14 in, that's close enough to 15 in for my taste and would save me some money.
