What are the chances of a release in 2016 versus early 2017?
I mean october I can handle, we're soon in august.. but what if it isn't released this fall? :(

Not a huge step from vagrant to docker. In fact, you can run vagrant on docker, and in a way run docker on vagrant ;)

Could be. I wonder how the timeline would be for something like that. If you want to have a laptop in stores and ready to ship on day X, how many days in advance would you have to make the hinge? How many days in advance would you have to sign the contract...

I guess this is why I'm not a financial analyst.

according to our source (s erba n) the prototype was made back in march-april (correct me if it was earlier). So to sign a contract for the company will take about 2-3 weeks and to produce such small part with high capacity is not a problem. Because apple signs contracts with reliable subcontractors which can handle multiple million quantities. So the prepaid was made or contract conditions were partly finished by both parties. (based on reported revenues)

Parts are ready guys and shipping(at least first 2-3 batches) :)

The more interesting fact that it will take about month to deliver macs all over the world. So "preoder now! Shipping in October" ? :D

Apple supplier Jarllytec shipped 13-inch MacBook hinges in May, DigiTimes says Jarllytec, a notebook hinge maker, began shipping metal injection molding, or MIM, hinges for Apple's 13-inch MacBooks in May and the company is expected to begin shipping MIM hinges for 15-inch MacBooks in Q3, reports DigiTimes, citing a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Why would they have the hinges shipped in May if the MacBook Pro only comes out in September/October/November? Also, why ship the hinges for the 15" later? Isn't it stupid to have the 13" produced and ready to be released 4-6 months early?

Perhaps they update the 13 inch MBA or introduce a 13 inch MB? And for that they need more hinches = earlier production and shipping

Based on the fact that the hinge makers are calling them 13 and 15 inch hinges means they're for a MacBook of the same size as current 13 and 15 inch MacBooks, which means we'll probably be getting 14 and 16 inch screen size MacBooks since that's what would fit in the same body with smaller bezels. The hinge maker wouldn't know the actual size of the screens, just that they fit a body matching the 13 and 15 inch screen sizes of today.

it is very smart in terms of production. It is not very cost effective to change manufacture line every time. So it is much more effective to produce one product and to switch manufacture to another product. I am not familiar with production process of macbooks, if it is handmade assembly or assembly made by machine but in machine case it will take time to re-programm them, set and etc. (QA, different packaging)

So 13 inches are ready now as it was year ago in spring, when 13 inches broadwells were shipping 2 months before 15 inches were ready.

btw: those news about hinges were published on the 8 of June (5 days before WWDC).

If there are in fact two fall events, it's still going to be painful sitting through a third keynote without a mention of the MBP. Even if there is a second event just a few weeks away.

With the few leaks that we have had... a body leak and a note from Ming-Chi Kuo are a good sign.

Then we need to rename this thread. If Apple doesnt show new Mac Hardware during the Sierra launch then we need Obi Wan - not the first time he is the last hope.

You (and many others) bought one, so I'm not so sure how dumb Tim is.

Because pissing your consumer by forcing them to buy outdated overpriced hardware isn't a so good idea in the long run.

I buy the 2015 because my MBP is my working machine and that my 2011 MBP had already done to repair twice because of dGPU pb (At the times the problem appears in late 2014 I had to got it reballed because Apple was saying there were no pb with the dGPU and I can't stay without my computer).

Where I lives an entry level MBP 15" cost around 6600$ (yes, you read it right).
Luckily I travel to Europe twice a years where the price are more affordable. So knowing that I'll return in January 2016, when I went there in 08/15 I decided to wait for the October update. But it didn't came.
So I planned to buy the 2016 MBP in in 08/16. You know the rest of the story: I am paying 3200€ for a more than one year old hardware.

So, why I am buying? As I wrote earlier, I use my computer to work and I can't change all my workflow and buy all the licences of the software I am using like this. Right now I HAVE to stay with Apple and I HAD to change my computer (mainly because of the dGPU problem...). No choice.

So Yes, I am pissed. I have an apple TV, a MacMini, 2 iPad, 3 iPhone, a MBP11 (an now a MBP2015) and was planing to buy an apple watch.

But now, what I am really thinking is how I will change my workflow in the futur so I WILL NOT depend of Apple again.

And as I am thinking to move from the Mac, I am also think if it won't be interesting to move from iPhone to a Galaxy edge next year (I really liked the function of edge and the screen is gorgeous). And if the android tablet sync well with an android phone, I will not see any point to buy an also overpriced iPad.

And taking all of this consideration, I will not recommend Apple so fervently anymore.

So yes, it was a dumb move from Tim and it's team. Loyalty and trust are hard to build.

Went ahead and ordered an SSD kit for my much-abused-but-still-ticking early-2011 MBP. I guess it's the equivalent of upgrading a reliable old Volvo with 150,000 miles. Not a bad thing, but I sure would like a fairly future proof machine if I'm going to shell out big Apple bucks. I'm now only a couple of apps and workflows away from abandoning mac hardware entirely. If I will soon be able to do my key tasks faster and cheaper elsewhere, why not?

Out of curiosity, what would be a good and maybe even cheaper alternative to the MBP?
Whenever I read reviews of any machine that isn't a MBP, it has some negative comments like : cheap feel, overheating, tinny keyboard, crashing issues etc etc. (Not even mentioning the debacle that Windows 10 is)
I would probably stick with Samsung myself (seeing how my last laptop lasted me 8yrs), but apparently they don't sell them in the uk anymore.

At the moment it's not urgent for me, so I don't have anything specific in mind. Also I am still married to the mac for a couple of key apps. People have discussed alternatives in these forums and elsewhere, but I will delay the choice for as long as possible.

I have no illusions about the state of Linux support for hardware, but I am now definitely buying software with an eye to a future platform switch, to the extent of prioritising software with multi-platform licences. There are and will be UI design concessions, but the flexibility is ample compensation.

Dell XPS 13 or 15 , they had A LOT of issues with the drivers , skylake apparently was not easy to tame , but now it pretty much works flawlessly

We're pretty fortunate for that body leak. Had I not seen it with all those tasty USBC/TB3 ports I would've caved months ago. Just looking at the wasteland that is the Mac Pro and Mac Mini. Both of those guys (for good reason) are demanding Apple go back to older development styles (tower Mac Pro, quad core Mac minis) and no update in sight. I guess it could be worse for us.

Anyone else find it hilarious we are mad and taking pot shots at Apple because they *won't take our money* ? I can't think of any other company, in any market segment, I'd do this waiting game for. For 99% of us all this delay has done for Apple has let them clear their inventory and delayed the money they will get from us regardless.

Why isn't windows better so I could actually have a damn choice ? .... or maybe the answer is in the question. One company with a complete package singular focus. Taking its damn time because it can, and thinks thats right regardless of how insanely out of date it seems to its massive fan base.

It doesn't bode well when the newest rumours are for the iPhone when it's actually going to be released in September/October. No rumours for some weeks on the Macbook Pro

Not really. They have to be producing the new phones now because of the mass quantities required for launch. Macs are sold in far fewer numbers so leaks aren't as common.

Exactly; given how close we are to iPhone 7 launch, we should be seeing leaks. Literally millions of these phones are being produced in another country by a contractor, so it would be impossible for Apple to keep the lid tight.

With that said, considering we got a MacBook leak around the same time, a September launch along with the iPhone seems likely. I'm scared for the 15". I hate the fact that I want a 15" sometimes, because it appears be the last on the MacBook totem pole for the past couple of years.
