So, what are the odds this thread gets past 1k pages before the release??

Does release count the actual days before it hits the shelves? Cause this thread can get up to a page per minute easily during keynotes. And if it is announced, I hope Arn can spin up some more capacity cause the forms will probably go down for few minutes.

Either way it's chaos, lookin forward to the show <grabs popcorn>

During the bigger keynotes with lots of new hardware, the whole site can slow down to a crawl. This thread and other relevant threads turn into Instant Messaging chat rooms at that point.

Just cause I'm bored, how many here would actually become angry if the next MBP still had 16gb ram max? Because I'm finding myself limited with 16 on Linux, and mac is far more memory-hungry as an OS, and I use different applications that also tend to use more memory. (Office, Adobe and so on)
What are your limitations with 16?

This is my first post after long reading.

Is it possible that they hold a Keynote within the Sierra launch in September to introduce all new Macs (Mac Pro, iMac, Macbook Pro, etc)? Well perhapse only new Macbooks and iMacs :D

Apple does march to the beat of their own drummer. Everyone's on their case and they don't care. Problem is, in the last two years no one's made a better laptop and Apple knows it. If someone would make a better one, they'd move on it.

Windows is getting closer as soon as they get linux support and better touchpads.

Very true...but even Apples best laptop is getting too old for my tastes. I've always assumed they'll release new Pros in 2016...going by previous update schedules. However now that they've passed WWDC...I'm worried.

Done. I can't wait anymore, my 2011 MBP is a living dead for month now and as use it for my job, I finally had to bought the 2015. I hope that Apple release something great, so I can resell it and buy a 2016 model but I am doubtful.

Now I have 4/5 years to change my workflow so if Apple continue on this path, I will switch to window or return to linux.
By the way, I saw the galaxy edge 7 and tried windows 10 today. I was quite surprised by the quality of both of them. Apple is really beginning to lag behind now.

Honestly, it's a strange sensation to be pissed at buying a 3200€ new computer... Thanks Tim, you may know how to maximise profit, but you may not be so good at maintaining your base of customers...idiot...

"Samsung Finally Gave Us the Laptop Apple Should Have"
http://gizmodo.com/samsung-finally-gave-us-the-laptop-apple-should-have-1783121461

LOL Apple already gave us this laptop like 8 years ago. Phil is probably wiping away tears from laughing so hard right now.

I still don't get why everyone thought Windows 8 was so bad but now everyone's jumping on the Windows 10 bandwagon. Um... They're pretty much the same OS where one has a weird launch screen and one has a moldy old start menu. (I've still never used a MacOS/OSX machine, so I can't compare Mac to Windows PCs).

Anyway... I almost broke down and stopped waiting today, but not for another laptop. I almost took the small portion of my investment account tagged for the new MBP (my first Mac) and spent it on... A DJI Phantom 4. I was one click away from buying but I turned back because I really want my PC (yes, Macs are technically PCs) to be mobile so I can take my laptop to work at the hospital and get my real work (novel writing) or hobby work (photography, drone video editing, etc) done during my down times.

But I really wish I could have told myself in March that the Skylake MBP would be coming out no earlier than September. I could have the Phantom 4 now and still have enough time to rejigger my investments/tech fund to buy the MBP when it finally came out.

I've been waiting very patiently (look at my past posts) for the MBP so I can switch away from my desktop, but now I'm about to start writing a new novel and I really wanted to use Ulysses instead of starting a new project in Scrivener. I'm not going to buy a 2015 MBP just because I want a Mac, and I figure I'm a more traditional buyer as opposed to the more upgrade-focused posters on this forum.

Yeah, they're very likely to intro new Macs with the Sierra launch, though it's doubtful to be in Sept (that's iPhone month). They're more likely to push the OS/Macs to a special Oct event.

You (and many others) bought one, so I'm not so sure how dumb Tim is. Sure they dropped below Asus in quantity, but they're selling systems with Haswell (which means higher profits then competitors selling systems with newer hardware)! iPhones have been behind Android in quantity for a while, but if you ask Apple they couldn't care less because the profits are practically all theirs.

Yeah, I don't know what that author was smoking but, while there is a legitimate critique to be made about Apple's upgrades recently, this article is absolutely ridiculous. You can't say "Samsung is out-innovating Apple" in the same article that you're touting a laptop with an HDD and a 1920x1080 screen.

What really bothers me, though, is Intel's complicity in confusing consumers with its processor lines. I know most people who've been here for 20+ pages gets frustrated with the constant "Kaby Lake" posts, but can you really blame them? (Ok, maybe a little. You should really spend some time getting to know a thread before posting.) Intel puts out a generation of processors under a single name, in this case "Skylake." And then there's Core M versions and Core I versions, with i3 being the lowest, i5 being the middle and i7 being the best. People who follow these things know that's not the whole story, but Joe-Consumer has no idea that there are multiple i7s and their performance varies greatly.

The laptop posted above uses the 6500U, which is technically a Skylake i7 but not the more recently released 6770HQ, the higher performance chip we're all expecting to see in the new MBP. Try finding the actual processor on Google, though, and you'll have to wade through dozens of pages and spec sheets before finding that info (even on Samsung's site). So when a new poster hears that Kaby Lake i7s will be released in the fall, they can't help but think the Skylake processors in the MBP will be outdated before they even arrive. If there's blame to be had its on Intel for confusing consumers with their easily-manipulated and misunderstood naming conventions.

(Oof, two posts in one night... Back to lurking for another couple weeks or so).

Agreed. I don't see Windows 10 as too much of an improvement on Windows 8. It still has that "two OSs in one" feel; it's a mess.

That's why I like Apple's OSs so much. macOS is for laptops/desktops, iOS is for tablets/phones. Windows tries to combine everything into one and it feels confused and half-assed.

On top of that... I don't get what quite a few of you are saying.

"If the new MBP doesn't come out until XXX, I'll buy an XPS 15 instead!"

HUH?
I mean... I also think the XPS 15 is not so bad and has some things going for it... like that (almost) bezel-free 4k display.
But let's be real here. You CANNOT compare a Windows PC to a Mac. I don't wanna start an OS war here... no worries, I simply try to understand. I could NOT easily switch OSses.

I use my Mac and macOS/OS X because of:
iCloud (works on Windows too...)
iWork (cloud version doesn't count)
Final Cut Pro X
and some other software.

Whether I think Windows is clunky and a pain in the ass to use... is irrelevant.
It simply doesn't offer the software I work with. Period.

It's the same argument Windows people have been making for years. That they use a certain software that is windows only. If it is really an isolated application... fine... run it in a VM. Loads and loads of people do that. The other way round though... you simply cannot.

I mean really... it's a bit like saying "I need a truck because I work in construction or something...
but if Ford doesn't release the new F-150... I'll buy a Chevrolet Camaro instead."

The only thing you can't do is use native apps easily. OSX has VMs for Windows and you can Hackintosh.

It's more like comparing different truck brands with different truck types (Like say, an F-150 to a monster truck).

there is a whole line of macs and we had few bad quality photo leaks (means legit) of macbook pro :D
Where are the other products I would ask?

Sure, if they really want to miss the "Back to school" period, they could do that. What's one quarter with declining laptop sales among friends? Let's go for two! Or three!

Got a loaded MacBook to wait it out... i'm distracted and not thinking as much because my eyes are dying into my 11 inch 2012 Air anymore

My Samsung laptop from 2008 finally died yesterday. Probably under the burden that Windows 10 is.
I really want to switch over to a MBP now, but I refuse to spend good money on old technology. When I buy a laptop I want it to last more than 5yrs.
I had a look at some windows laptops today and then had to stop, because I'd have to deal with Windows 10 again and it seems that the built quality of most high street brands is just not good enough.
Windows 10's constant updating, the search function not working and all the other crap you have to deal with isn't worth a penny.
I really hope Apple releases the new MBPs soon until then I only have my iPad Pro and my husbands 2006 MBP...UGH!

On Linux? Docker containers, multiple chrome tabs and all the stuff running on the terminals. Gulp, NPM, whatever.

Got it. Was just curious. Currently I use vagrant and virtualbox on my computers. Gulp, and NPM as well, some older stuff in bower. Have it on the radar to play around with docker at some point.

Not a huge step from vagrant to docker. In fact, you can run vagrant on docker, and in a way run docker on vagrant ;)

Given we've had almost no news for weeks this dull financial update is worth posting. You'll be pleased to hear that the (purported) next gen MBP hinge maker is posting big revenues

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160713PB201.html

A clue that production is continuing to ramp up?!?
Could be. I wonder how the timeline would be for something like that. If you want to have a laptop in stores and ready to ship on day X, how many days in advance would you have to make the hinge? How many days in advance would you have to sign the contract...

I guess this is why I'm not a financial analyst.
