After going to the Apple Store the other day and playing around with the 13 in RMBP I almost took my wallet and threw it at the screen. Very hard to hold back especially because the 15 in base model at Best Buy is $1,799.00 USD for students...

If you're having a tough time waiting check out this thread, specifically page 554.
Waiting for Haswell MBP Mega Thread . It was at that moment the haswell retinas were being unveiled at the october keynote. Price drop, faster notebooks, TB2 interface, the works.

I want to feel this. Jubilation and brotherhood after many months of waiting.

Went to a shop today and looked at about 20 laptops. None of them were as nice and comfortable as the rMBP 15".
Oh, dear space aliens, please let Apple come out with the new model soon :'-(

Also, after Apple introduces the new rMBP and we have reached 1024 pages out of excitement, they should rename this thread "Waiting for Skylake MBP Giga thread". Possibly the biggest thread in the whole forum.....
It will be glorious.

8 weeks, I guess.

Give or take a year or two...
IF apple even still makes computers :p

Possibly the biggest thread in the whole forum.....

Easily.

Edit: If my search regex is correct, this is the most replied to active thread on Macrumors beating out the "just ordered MBP" thread by 7.5k posts. Good job all.

Apple has almost the same market share as Asus and Apple only sells mostly high price desktops/laptops, while Asus has many more options in the lower end of the spectrum, that many people with not-so-much-money buy.

So I don't see Apple coming out of the computer business... Not in the next years at least.

Had to replace the fan in my 2011 MBP today. I kind of don't want to stop using this computer, it's been so good for over half a decade, though I think its time will be up soon.

Hello *waves*

So I've been lurking for a while, and I've just had a thought. Does anyone think it suspicious that Apple is being uncharacteristically generous with its back-to-school offer? Usually, even when a MacBook event is scheduled for Autumn, students just get an app store gift card but suddenly they're giving away $300 headphones? It could be that they're trying to implant the Beats brand into the student population but I don't think the Beats branding is particularly struggling right now. Could it be a sign that the September event is definitely going to have MacBooks in it, considering how desperate they are to dump their current stock?

Or is that just wishful thinking? I can hang on until September but not October/November, my late 2011 13" is hanging on by a shred so not running out and buying the base model 15" rMBP is a daily battle. But Haswell. Sigh.

And Macs make much as revenue as iPads. Yet, the iPad line is consistently updated on all fronts. The performance of Mac sales seems to mean nothing. Timmy and the rest of the Apple team have an agenda to push people onto 12" MacBooks and iPad Pros, plain and simple.

Those are not $300 headphones. They are beat solos which is around $100 cdn

nope, just double checked and if you buy a Mac it's the Solo2 Wireless, $329.95 CDN

That's retail price, though. Actual cost of manufacture is likely much lower, and probably pales in comparison to the markup on 2015 MBPs.

I guess that's true, but it's still a loss of revenue? Ugh I just wanted to be excited. I may just give up and head out to the Apple Store today.

Good luck, guys. I'm (un)officially stepping away from MacRumors since I really have no need for Apple's computers for quite awhile. With the money I got from selling the maxed out 2015 15" rMBP, I was able to purchase 1) a 2015 13" MBA base model (8GB), and 2) a PC with an i7 6700K, GTX 1070 FTW, etc. (I also had the spare money to buy a nice 4K monitor). It just shows you that the money you could use to purchase that MacBook Pro can be used for a powerhouse of a workstation PC and a competent MBA, although I understand the need for the former.

On top of that, it's been getting quite dull and boring reading the same iPhone rumors (Oh, a new color! Oh, headphone jack! Wait, joking! Wait, joking about that! Commence to repeat the last two steps 5 times for juicy news on MR this week). Good on my wallet but not for me is that I probably won't purchase any new Apple product this year. As I said before, I'm good with computers, and I will stretch out the lifespan of the 6 plus until either next year's iPhone or Android phone.

It's funny how taking one step at a time away from an ecosystem, whether it's Mac or Windows, can eventually lead you to slowly migrate away entirely. I'm thinking of selling my Apple Watch and iPhone, and just going entirely Windows/Android while using the MacBook Air since it's practically the best ultrabook IMO on the market right now.

Oh well - at this point in the post, it's just me babbling. But I thought I'd just let you guys know for those who are especially thinking of spending $2500+ on this new MacBook Pro, whose gimmicky features are being more focused on scarily - there are other great options out there, and like my situation, it is possible to get a powerful PC with an accompanying MacBook/Air, especially with these recent sales.

For the others who are waiting for the MBP, I salute to you!

Kaby lake is coming, but like others have said, there are tons of variants within the Intel lineup. The processors that Apple uses (the ones with Iris iGPUs) are ALWAYS released later. The initial early lineup is composed of Core Ms, and Core i(X)s but without Iris. A Kaby Lake 13" rMBP would be due Q3-Q4 2017. For the 15" is even worse. There is no planned GT4e Kaby Lake processor, meaning that the next CPU change will occur with Cannonlake in Q4 2018 (just like what is happening with Haswell) if there's no delay.

Which graphics do the other models that don't have iris have ?

What's a gt4e , so many questions , I promise I'll go back and hide on my corner after you shed some light on this

But you forgot Pokemon Go and Apple Pay being rolled out in another country :(

We lost one, comrades, we lost one. How many of us are left? Should we do a roll call?

Just curious...if Apple announces a redesigned Skylake MBP's in Sept...for purchase say in October, would people jump on it knowing very well a Kaby Lake update might be a few months away in Jan Feb 2017?. :)

You know one thing I keep reading in this massive post is people don't seem to get the production cycle. First of all when INTEL releases a chip Apple gets prototypes of the first ones they can get their hands on and works with them for a while, who knows the exact time frame. But it's not like when INTEL releases a chip Apple has a case or frame, and goes "JUST SLAP THAT SUCKER IN AND SHIP IT!" It's takes at least a 6-9-12 months of playing with it to get the thing working. And another thing sometimes they skip a chip.

Even this, Now days the chips are more than just a CPU, they have a Video subsystem (integrated GPU), they have device bus like Thunderbolt 3 they have to write drivers for and tweak. They also have to design the motherboard with the other components, like the sleeping of the system and waking, the power management, the display and then you add a discrete GPU they have to merge that with the integrated, which INTEL has probably no help, well maybe a little. But look at that crappy Surface Book Pro 4. Whatever its called with that crazy hinge. That thing didn't work for a whole year after it came out they couldn't get everything fixed. When you get your Apple MacBook Pro (Delayed/Late 2016) 99.8% :D of us can be assured that that sucker is going to fire up and work and work WELL. Freaking detachable touch screen with a video card built into it? 5 years experience building laptops, come on Microsoft, are you desperate for more crack? Apple wouldn't come close to that kind of monstrosity, and I am thankful. People depend on these MBPs to be their (phrase of the month) Daily Driver. It's gotta work as well as your car, no holes barred. And it will. 30+ years experience making computers and 30+ years experience making software (OSes) yeah, I can wait till August/Sept/Oct...

Especially if it's going to take me for another 5 years of good surfing and working...I don't want to drop $2500 and find out I am going to have an unworkable machine blah blah yada yada, and have to scrounge up another $2500 F.T.!

Laters...

[doublepost=1468827201][/doublepost]Actually i was thinking about this when they announced it. They add as 299€ iirc so i thought sell on eBay for 200€ effectively get another 10% discount on top of the students discount which sums up to a nice 20%.

However i want TB3, Skylakes 550 Iris Pro. I strongly believe the next reincarnation of the MBP will blow the competion away with their ugly hinges and subpar trackpads - as Apple has always done.

Beats headphones are vastly overpriced rubbish. You'd be better off buying a $20 headphone from a Chinese brand. So no, it's not generous.

What else could it be?

Many suspect that the Macbook Pro will indeed come with touch ID hardware imbeded. It'd be much easier to divert their energy on completing a single, solid version of the OS (sierra) with the drivers and extensions integrated well, instead of rushing the shipment with custom El Capitan version installed (with the hardware support, of course), only to be replaced by the eventual release of Sierra very soon after.

I also make a point that AMD's RX 480m (the suspected graphics chip to go into the 15" Macbook Pros) is still in production and won't be of avail till August shipment at the earliest. (AMD has repeatedly claimed that the 480m will be available for back-to-school, which means it should be ready by august-september window)

Personally, I wanna see Apple actually fitting the GTX 1060 in the damn thing. the TDP is 130W, so it's pretty unrealistic. But then again, nVidia has said that they intend on fitting the 1070 and the 1080 (the desktop chipset, albeit probably cut back) in enthusiast laptops, so it's not unrealistic to think on the plausibility of 1060 finding itself in a premium 15" laptop.

Unless the 15" will be twice as thick it will remain unrealistic to support 130w dGPU - regardless who builds it.
