Unless the 15" will be twice as thick

Unless the 15" will be twice as thick it will remain unrealistic to support 130w dGPU - regardless who builds it.

Absolutely. I have little hope of Apple ever producing another x86 MBP with a high end (or any) dGPU in it.

What I do hope is that they'll finally support external GPUs via Thunderbolt 3.
The 5k Apple Display should come with built in M395 (or higher) and they should allow select manufactures to produce external GPU cases. Nvidia's surprisingly decent web drivers are already taking care of the software support.

That way Apple could keep following their obsession with device thinness while giving professionals and enthusiasts the option to plug in a GTX 1080 via TB3.

I don't expect the next rMBP to offer any option of a dGPU so in my eyes that's the only solution going forward. People are already doing it with the old rMBPs over TB2 and have decent success.

Truth be told the average rMBP user these days does not need a dGPU anyway, they would be fine with such a 15" Macbook Air.

The problem is not what the average user needs, but the more demanding users.
Many of those i see with a rMBP (13" and 15") would usage wise be fine with the new MB.

killing the dGPU now will be a mistake, especially if the do not have an external GPU ready for launch along a new rMBP

Also, the "Average" mac user, buys an Air, or a 13'' Retina, or a used 13'' non-Retina.

Little are the people that go for the 15''s, and the one's who do are looking for power. If you don't need the power you are better off with a 13'' anyways...

I'd be happy to get a powerful 17". It would still be mobile enough given their engineering skills these days. I just hope they can do something about the noise. Even the current MBP is quite whooshy when stressed.

There's one thing for sure; don't count on a refreshed MBP any time soon after the 2016 finally hits.

I think it's pretty clear that the future roadmap for the MBP is unclear. They could pull a Mac Pro and give us a beautifully redesigned product and then let it sit for 3+ years. This fall will be the time to buy.

August? No. September? Doubt it.

Honestly, I'm half way expecting some sort of switch to AMD or even ARM CPUs now. That's the only way the CPU delays make sense.

Released with Sierra - that OS contains drivers for Oled, TouchID and Polaris.

Everything else is highly unlikely, even if i dont like it.

I'd love a 17". I grew up on large screen laptops, so it's hard for me to go down to 13" laptop. Main reason why it'd be hard to make my SP4 my main mobile machine. My usage would probably be fine with a MacBook Air, but I like having the biggest real estate possible. It's too bad that A. Apple killed the 17"(Although I understand why) and B. I know if Apple were to make a 17" it'd literally take a summer of work and two limbs to pay for it.

I was honestly happy Intel made the core M. I remember when rumors were first floating around of the 12" MB, and it was pretty much the rumored device that would have ARM processors. The last thing I want is the fustercluck of switching to ARM. Plus I want bootcamp capability.

lol, (legit laughter) nope.
Arm is not even close yet. And for Apple to switch to AMD would wipe them completely out of the race in premium computers. That would be Apple's dumbest move yet!

And btw, ppl here dont understand what Apple is waiting for. The only thing they need that is not yet available is AMD dGPUs and possibly Samsungs "nail sized ssd."

Here is another sickness.

Think about this. This next round of MacBooks (or Macs, minis, pros, etc) will probably be the last round of "the old school" Infinite Loop Apple. You know when they get that Space Ship Campus done all hell is gonna break loose, and $#!+$ gonna hit the fan, hell they might go all ARM even, who knows. I am just going to be glad to grab this possible "Last Relic" of the good ole days. It's getting serious in here...

Hello *waves*

So I've been lurking for a while, and I've just had a thought. Does anyone think it suspicious that Apple is being uncharacteristically generous with its back-to-school offer? Usually, even when a MacBook event is scheduled for Autumn, students just get an app store gift card but suddenly they're giving away $300 headphones? It could be that they're trying to implant the Beats brand into the student population but I don't think the Beats branding is particularly struggling right now. Could it be a sign that the September event is definitely going to have MacBooks in it, considering how desperate they are to dump their current stock?
I had the same thought as you. I think the bolded part is the reason they upped the offer this year.

One of the top posts in this Reddit thread sums me up pretty nicely:
Not even going to lie... my entire life has pretty much been consumed by MBP rumor watching. This is my whole life now.

I want to upgrade my 2013 MBP to get 16GB RAM, and I'm also in the market for a Thunderbolt dock but I don't want to buy now with Thunderbolt 3 on the horizon.

So here I wait... Refreshing /r/appleand MacRumors dozens of times per day. I'm a shadow of the man I once was.

I'm 100% serious.

I've been looking to buy a MacBook pro 15", but like many others I'm waiting for the update. But this week I can save 17 % on the Macbook pro 15" and I'm therefore considering going for it. My thoughts are that the updated model will cost at least as much as the current model - and maybe more. Or what are your thoughts?

So, I know this current machine is a little old, but I know what I get (ports ect.) plus Im saving at least 17 % compared to the upcoming model (given my assumptions). Should I go for it or wait? I really need a new computer..

I think you should go for it, but bear in mind that if you wait you could even get a bigger discount on the old model. That's what I'm looking for if I'm not happy with the new model

With the late May report from Ming-Chi Kuo, the site had reported:
Kuo calls the new MacBook Pro updates the "most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple."

So, the new MBP is the most significant upgrade across any product line in Apple history, or just in relation to the MBP? Because that statement certainly seems to mean over all product lines which makes me immeasurably excited.
