So with Kaby Lake trickling out of Intel (presumably the MBP level CPUs due out in early 2017), will Apple skip Skylake for their MBP line?

Their competitors already leap frogged them in a number of areas and they're already on Skylake. As I've said before, Apple's 15" MBP is on Haswell, that's a heck of difference in terms of the CPU being used.

Perhaps for the 13" but not for the 15". KBL GT4e parts may not even be produced based on the info we have at the moment.

Damn. If that's not the MBP chassis in those pics then that means we've had effectively no leaks whatsoever on the MBP. And now we're hearing rumors of them skipping Skylake...so can't wait for my mid-2017 MBP. Only one year to go, guys!

If there's no new MBP by the end of October, I'm getting a PC laptop. Not because I'm switching to Windows, I still prefer OS X, but I do have an iMac now and I'm sure after a month of being in college I'll really want a laptop -_-

Its crazy the latest macbook pro is 4 cpu generations behind now. Maybe they put most of their engineers onto the iphone.

It currently two generation behind (broadwell and skylake in front of it), and will be 3 when kabylake comes out end of 2016/start of 2017.

Lets not get too crazy...

I imagine Apple will be wanting to release the new MBP September to coincide with Sierra, coupled with the fact that Mac sales are bombing. Personally I doubt it will do much good, as the problem is Apple`s hardware is simply too expensive for what it offers these days for many. Add in highly aggressive competition offering ever better hardware, leaving the only real differentiator being the OS.

Those on the other end of the spectrum are likely to presented with systems that lack usability & practicality, solely due to Apple`s obsession with "thin" The MBP doesn't need to be thinner, it needs more performance and improved cooling. Much of the advantages of Skylake and upcoming dGPU`s will likely be lost for the sake being thinner.

I am all for ultraportables as they very much serve a purpose owning several myself, equally a professional/prosumer notebook should put performance, practicality and usability first. Thin works with low power passively cooled systems, too thin combined with powerful silicon generally results in compromises; too hot, too much fan noise, throttling and of course the 15" MBP`s Achilles Heel reliability.

Lol, im sure you'll be the first in line after apple launches the new rmbp, considering all the moaning and crying you do. doesn't make sense to waste time on company that has lost its focus. So why are you here then?;):)

Oh come off it.

Queen6 is 100% correct.

I want this MBP because I want OS X, because I think it's a much better OS than Windows and it works with the iOS devices I have (and MBPs have great displays and trackpads, but it's primarily about the OS for me). I had an rMBP for three years and my main issue with it was how incredibly overheated it got just from watching YouTube or looking at Street View. Computers like the MB appeal to a lot of people, but the "ultra-thin" doesn't necessarily appeal to those of us who do more power-consumptive computing. I would love to see a bigger, better-cooled MBP released alongside thinner counterparts, but I know that's not going to happen...

Valid criticism =/= moaning and crying.

But yeah, sure, anyone who criticizes Apple is a whiny hater; love everything they do or you're not a "true fan". Go buy a PC

Remember the leaked chasis we all saw back in June?

Maybe it's not even for the MBP afterall....

Look at the display lid. Not even remotely close.

*sigh* you misunderstood my post, doesn't surprise me really. I was pointing out the irony and hypocrisy of most, not just Queen6. Nowhere in my comment i suggest that valid criticism is not welcome. You, like many others post the many downsides and problems that comes with having an apple computer, often disagreeing with Apple's vision and treatment of the lineup. The course of action most of you take is suggest others to "vote" with their wallets, post about how Apple is not giving what users want, and finally about how you (users) will abandon the ecosystem. YET, instead of acting on their words, you see them here waiting for the latest mac to go out and buy the very minute Apple releases one, while in the meantime spewing doomsday BS to everyone else. You just said how your rMBP gets incredibly overheated, something that will go on with the next generation considering that they are going to be thinner. Yet, you plan on buying the next rMBP. If it were me, and i were to be unhappy with apple's offerings, I would change companies. I would actually "vote" with my wallet, instead of posting empty "threats" that most would never act upon. I suppose it helps you vent your frustation. Ok so wait, OS X is the only thing holding you back from changing companies? Sucks to be you, you chose to like OS X, so only apple can supply you computers. You know that they won't deliver what you want. They will deliver a thinner, more power efficient laptop, which is not what most want, YET you'll go out and buy it. Believe me, im in no way a "sheep". There are many things I don't agree on with Apple, but whatever, i guess I'm now one because you say so.

Almost everything you say in this paragraph is pretty much crap, but I'll just respond to one thing: Yes, I prefer OS X, for many reasons. Not going to go into them here, but this is something we can just accept: I think Windows sucks compared to OS X.

That means I have. no. choice. if I want a portable machine running OS X. I do power-intensive things (mainly photo editing, but some video editing as well) so I will get the most powerful machine they have. And I have every right to voice what I think they SHOULD do. But refusing to use the OS I want is not going to make them reverse the direction they've been heading in for a while. It's something we essentially have to accept, especially given that most people DO want a thinner laptop--most people who use Macs are probably like my best friend: he uses his to go on Facebook and take notes. That's great that they make computers for that (the MB, the MBA, even the 13" MBP although they're all certainly capable of more). I'm just saying that it would be nice if there was a more powerful option alongside these. Me and a few others who want this not buying Macs is not going to make it happen; it probably will not happen, but since this is a thread about a computer that isn't out yet, and we are ALL speculating and ALL talking about what we want and expect, I don't see why those of us who want this particular device to be a particular way (i.e. power over thinness) should cease and desist.

I'm not telling anyone they're an idiot for liking the MB or prioritizing thinness, I'm not telling anyone to leave Apple. It's not "doomsday" to express disappointing over the direction Apple seems to be heading, it's not "doomsday" to express what you'd like to see them offer. I'm just expressing my desires, expectations, and well...gripes (given how long this release is taking) just like everyone else.

So yeah. I'm not responding to you again if you come back with more of this crap, but we'll see.

It's crap because you simply cannot argue against the truth. You liking OS X wasn't the point.

Exactly. We know very well what's the direction they are heading, why come here then? We all know they will make it thinner, they just wont prioritize power over thinness unfortunately. Why put yourself through this? Why not go out and buy from another vendor that will satisfy your expectations. It's masochism really. OS X is too good to leave? Again, sucks to be you.

I don't see why those of us who want this particular device to be a particular way (i.e. power over thinness) should cease and desist.
You shouldn't cease and desist, it's just pointless to wait for something you know won't be able to satisfy you. Like Queen6 always seems to suggest. That's all. Why spend money on something that won't hold up to your standards? You are just setting yourself for disappointment. It's senseless. What truly irks me are the "Vote with your wallet. Jump ship." people. They say that over and over again, why not just do it and stop talking.

I can't speak for everyone, but can speak for myself - I am waiting to see what Apple releases this cycle before deciding whether or not to jump ship. If the cycle stretches on much longer with nothing new from Apple, it's an easy answer to jump ship. If they release something new in the next few months, I'l compare it to the competition and decide. I prefer OS X and the Apple ecosystem, but am not willing to settle or massively overpay for it. I hope they come through with something exciting, but since it doesn't look like Macs have much focus from them recently I am kind of skeptical. Time will tell...
