Macbook is the new Air.

So could even be that...
"(Space) Orange is the new (Space) Black."

And it gets even better!

I'm sorry, I'm just sick of this eternal wait
:(

I'd really, REALLY like my next laptop to be a MBP, but the problem is...Tim thinks the iPad Pro can replace the laptop.
The more I think about that, the more I hope that whatever MBP is coming (sooner or later) isn't thrown together half arsed to please the people who need more than an iPad Pro.

To be honest, I'm mostly with you on this. I want a laptop first and foremost, but if it had tablet like abilities to double as an iPad Pro that would be awesome. I currently use a combination of MBP and iPad Pro to take notes in all my classes depending on situation. iPad Pro for the Math and science classes (Physics) using the  Pencil and Mac for the other less symbol based classes. The only reason I don't use paper instead of iPP is because I have issues with writing and the lower friction surface of the iPP helps me write and erase much easier. So yah, I would love to have my Mac function as a tablet with  Pencil support so I don't have to lug around both devices with me or switch between the two. Plus the bigger screen and macOS would be a huge benefit for me as I move into college as a CS major. My point is that the iPP has a place in my workflow so I'd love a hybrid of some sort.

Yeah I do agree with the assessment that there will once again be a Macbook and a Macbook Pro. The Air is kind of pointless now, as lovely as it's been as a spiritual successor to the Powerbook 12".

I KNOW! :) But what could that product be then!

On second thought this might be some Apple copycat pc too.

That's some graphic designer who's been told "make a pretty Apple computing image, just mash some of their stuff together" and has literally managed to replace the lid of a Macbook with an iPad and put a fake screenshot on it. Bizarre, but not hugely unusual in graphic design I don't think.

All right boys and girls things are shaping up on the FP for the sept event.

Preorders on the 9th means event during that week, monday is labor day (and the last day of PAX West) so that means Tuesday Sept 6th is the likely date, which I will probably take off work :p. Remember BTS promo ends Sept 5th (a day before, coincidence?)

Now for the 6S, Sept 9th event, Apple sent out invites on August 27th = 13d lead time

Sept 6th 2016 event - 13d = August 24th Invite, hopefully.

Note I make no claims about MBP announce/availability at this event, this is purely for entertainment purposes.

Selling my iPad Air, my wife's iPad mini and her early 2012 MacBook Pro. Looking to get a new MacBook Pro.

Have a fully maxed late 2013 27 iMac, which she has started using a lot, so I am trying to get replacement for her soon.

I cannot believe the one time I'm in the market of looking for a new MacBook, they're over 500 days old. Insane. Just my luck.

I suppose I'll keep checking back.

Out of pure curiosity, if you bought a new MacBook on the last day of the promo and new ones come out less than a month later, would you then be able to swap it and keep the headphones?

For anyone who can type fast, a keyboard and a touchpad are just too good and far superior than anything else out there right now. Even speech recognition. I don't think that it's just a case of being unwilling to change and being too familiar with what has been working for decades. It's really because what's been working for decades hasn't been surpassed yet.

So...ipad Pro, to compete, needs to have a built-in keyboard and touchpad. I agree touching the screen of a laptop is awkward still. The other issue is that ios is still neutered compared to os x. The word processing, any statistical software, any coding software, anything outside of games and the web browser...well, I think that it's still too limiting.
The future of go-anwhere computing is actually the macbook 12, since it has a keyboard built in and a touchpad and runs os x, and it weighs nothing .

Yah, all I wanted was for it to have  Pencil support. Same good ol' MBP just with the ability to be tablet-ish so I don't have to carry around both devices. And I don't think the iPP should need a keyboard. It's not the future of PCs, but for what it actually is it is a pretty good device and has much less stylus lag than the surface book I tested in the Microsoft store. The SB was unusable in terms of pen support.

Yeah, iPad Pro is really such an amazing hardware (computing specs, weight, thinness, battery, etc) hampered by operating on a phone OS. It deserves its own OS or at least a modified macOS for ARM, then we can stop trashtalking Tim.

With a proper OS, I can wholeheartedly agree that it can really become the future of PCs. No thanks to iOS; it's supposed to be for a PHONE...

for me if I wanted a one size fits all device I'd wait for the surface pro 5. it's a tablet with the power of a desktop. The IPad Pro is a beast for tablet tasks but I doubt it's strong enough to handle more demanding things.

Jobs and Gates knew it's a bad idea to mix mobile and more stationary features...seems like Cook and Nadella, Ballmer don't .

The MacBook is a more powerful tablet priced like a pro because it's so thin guess what I'd rather have a more powerful device with more weight and good key travel (back in the days Vaio had that).

My current tablet Asus TF 300 is still fine for tasks like watching Netflix. Touching the screen of a notebook seen a just awkward to me..I'm much faster with shortcuts and my mouse

Ok, let me preface this by saying I don't think this would ever happen... ever. It's just a thought experiment.

What if the 2016 MacBook Pro didn't come with a screen, but instead featured a dock for an iPad Pro? The resolutions are similar, and the new iPad connector could work in that situation. But the MacBook Pro would contain its own battery, CPU, storage etc, while the iPad Pro retains its own battery, AXx processor, memory etc. The iPad would run MacOS when docked, iOS when detached... UNLESS you're nearby in which case the MacBook Pro side could AirPlay MacOS to the tablet even while it's used as a handheld.

My only gripes about this idea would be that it probably wouldn't look so sleek, and the dock might not feel as sturdy. Also weight would go up for sure.

But hey, nobody else has novel ideas for a laptop innovation aside from "faster, bigger, lighter, etc." Personally I just want a regular old laptop, please.

So the case would hold CPU, Graphics and ram, and the iPad Pro would hold... CPU, Graphics and ram...?

I mean, as an optional thing instead of a macbook pro, it could actually be a fair idea, but I still don't see Apple doing it.

Maybe I'm missing something here but this idea soundslike Apple's version of the Surfacebook? And as great as that idea was/is the execution has not been done well for a premium device that thing is not ready for primetime. Imagine all the software-hardware connection that have to work flawlessy to pull that of.

I could see it working as an external device for sure but not as a MBP 2016 version.
