If I bought a current MBP from the online store for home delivery, can I return it to a local Apple store for a full refund? May grab one for the BTS promo first week of Sept and exchange for new model (or return if nothing comes out).

Unwrapped? Probably. Wrapped? Definitely.
Just say you heard there's a new model coming out, don't bother coming up with some story.

Unless I'm mistaken Apple has a no questions asked 14 day return policy. You can buy online and return in store (in store is the only way to return macbook you can't mail them back). If you're not planning on keeping it if the new mbp isn't released then I'm not sure I get the point because according to the BTS you have to return the headphones as well or they are deducted from the price.

Polaris 11 die shot. Made in Taiwan. GloFo does not have any fabs in Taiwan(USA, Germany, China). This looks like is TSMC process.

My prediction is that there are going to be just 2 computer lines, the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. They will come in the following sizes:

MacBook 12"
MacBook 14"

MacBook Pro 13"
MacBook Pro 15"

The MacBook will be for users who don't need much power and generally use their machines to write emails / papers, go on Facebook and browse the internet, watch videos, etc. Appropriate for the vast majority of computer users out there who can't yet use an iPad as their main machine, but don't need the power of the Pro. Sure this machine is expensive now, but so was the Air when it was first released. The MacBook is positioned to be the main computer for the average PC user.

Meanwhile, the Pro will be larger and more powerful to serve professionals who need to get more CPU-demanding work done on their machines - software engineers, web developers, graphic artists, video editors, etc. I believe the leaks we're seeing today about the "new Air" are indeed for the new MacBook Pro.

This lineup is clean, simple, and has a device suitable for everyone in the market for new portable Mac.

If they made a 14" Retina MacBook(Physical screen slightly smaller than current 15" rMBP, but still bigger than 13" rMBP) with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 2 USB-C ports, 15W i5 for $1299-$1499 I would actually consider ditching my 15" rMBP. USB-C would still be a pain, but at least there would be more than one.

That's really the only way the iPad Pro can truly become pro - macOS.

I went with the Surface Pro over the iPad Pro precisely because I couldn't justify paying the same price for machine running iOS.

With the student discount on the SP4, I would be paying the same price as an 8GB/256GB SP4 for aan iPad Pro with Pencil and Keyboard. I love the iPad, but not that much. If the iPad Pro was running macOS it would have been a no-brainer to go for the iPad Pro.

Just making sure I understand, So since Polaris 11 is supposed to be their mobile variant, and this card is "low-power" (no external power required), is this the potential dGPU for high trim MBP?

Yes. The board of desktop version of P11 - RX 460 has 2+1 phase board which means it is 57W GPU already. Lowering the TDP, and power consumption to lets say 35W will be extremely easy.

This GPU has 1024 GCN cores(16 CU's). So it will have more than 2 TFLOPs of compute power(this is FirePro D300 levels from desktop Mac Pro).

Another reason why this is a good one to get. Could you imagine having a fairly decent 2014 or 2015, rMBP, and then saying "I'll wait till the next one" only come to find out (NOT THIS ONE, hopefully, fingers crossed), they release an ARM MacBook Pro? Then everyone scrambles to get the 2016 version, a year after it's been out? I mean if this one was ARM, I would probably still get it, but I'll be glad to have a intel 2016. But if you need x64 that will suck the day this happens...

And more than the same GPU but with different names: GTX 860M and GTX 950M.

which are 45W parts based on a 2 year old architecture (Maxwell/GM107) in a 28nm process vs AMD's new architecture in 14nm.

When you adjust for equal power consumption Polaris 10 appears to be about as capable as Maxwell, perhaps slightly faster which is a disappointing result in light of the aforementioned circumstances.
I would love to see how a 35W Pascal GPU compares. We'll find out eventually.

Gimme sumtin' new and fresh here, please! Waiting like a monkey for news about the Prooo...

Btw, 1st post here.

The biggest problem is that this thread is hugely boring!
I mean, I can deal with chrome crashing three times daily ruining my entire workload and making me choose whether I should reload the tabs and gamble that it will be stable, or relaunch blank and go through my history for the last hours to find the tabs I really want...

Nah, this thread! This thread is what matters!

I develop web pages. I can't use Safari.

(... for developing web pages. I use Safari exclusively for video.)

Out of pure curiosity, if you bought a new MacBook on the last day of the promo and new ones come out less than a month later, would you then be able to swap it and keep the headphones?

You can. But the MacBook Pro will probably release by September-end...and by then you won't be able to return or exchange.

Hate to say it but not many leaks so far. You would expect to have seen more if its going to launch at the iPhone event. There were lots of details of the Macbook a couple of months before that was announced.

Since there has never(?) been a September MB/P release, I assume we get a Mac only event in October, including release. Do not keep your fingers crossed too much for 09/2016

I agree. September is going to be the iPhone release and they will wait until October for MBPs. This is how they have done it in the past. My guess will be either the week of 10/17 or 10/24.
