FWIW, the 1515M and 1545M Xeons aren't yet listed on the Wikipedia Skylake page - perhaps they are still effectively vaporware like the other IP 580 chips?

It aint vaporware if I can buy one today and have it next week (even the highest 3.0 GHz $1200 parts!!!). I may dislike dell (except their monitors) but them and HP took gold on the first Skylake-H Xeons on the market, Lenovo may get it for the P70 eventually, Apple is ?????????????? ? ? ? ? oh wait they're still trying to convince us that an iPad is a Macbook.

This ARM speculation for the MacBook Pro is pretty far-fetched. ARM processors simply aren't up to snuff...

I, too, chuckle every time I see a post about replacing Intel CPUs with ARM processors. I imagine they must stand next to their two cycle lawn mower and wonder why their car isn't using the same engine. C'mon, they both use the same fuel AND are called engines!

MR would be a quiet place if you had to actually understand what you were posting.

If Apple was equally prioritising the Mac, this conversion would not exist. inversely Apple relies on it`s sales & marketing to sell overpriced, out of date hardware, coupled with shoddy software. Personally, and in business I am voting with the one thing that Apple understands $$$$$...

The future of the Mac is almost certainly the same path as the iPad; consumption toy for the masses. I sincerely hope to be proved wrong.

Q-6
They have been making the iPad MORE of a productivity and creation tool. What makes you think they will move backwards with the Mac?

And that's where Tim Cook wants the iPad to lead too. Ultimately to replace your laptop. The iPad will become the main focus moving forward, at least in the Pro line, more specifically the 12.9 Inch model.

What products have been announced with Xeon IP 580's? Which are shipping?
To name all the major vendors: HP Zbook Studio G3, Lenovo P50, Dell Precision 7510. They all ship Xeons with Iris Pro.

Like I said, there are a ton of articles that were/are guessing the same thing, for the same reasons. It's not just a MR article, that was just the easiest to go back and find since I was already here. All I've been saying is that the expected chips are nowhere to be seen in shipping products, which is likely one reason for The Wait™. Just because something else IS out there doesn't make me wrong.

It's all speculation based on educated guesses. The general consensus certainly fits with the reality in which those i7/580s are just coming out now though, as are the next gen AMD dGPUs, etc, but maybe the holdup is yields on next gen retina screen tech yields or liquid metal coffee cup holders — WHO KNOWS but it's not likely for the Apple Doesn't Care reasons being thrown around here.
All the ton of articles are just this - guess. The fact that ALL the major vendors went for Xeons to get Iris Pro is just this - fact. So the general consensus is that rMBPs will use either Cores or Xeons with Iris Pro. And best of these CPUs are already out in the wild.

...but it exists.
Once again, numbers: 12% of Apple revenue is made by Mac (5$ billions), the iPad are exactly the same amount, 12%.
And even this numbers, as Luca Maestri stated, they understood that (We) faced a very difficult quarter with Macs compared to the year-ago quarter.
So less people are buying Macs.
I don't think in the near future Apple will completely give up the Mac.
Maybe when the iPad will really be able to do perform as a computer, but not right now.

Yea, that's not good unfortunately. Makes me think Apple is more concerned on how thin the laptop is than having the latest hardware in them.

IMO, the size of the MBP is perfect now. Why make it thinner when you really don't need to. Just stuff the machine with the latest hardware release it.

It's not a simple as just shoving a Skylake chip in it and release it. They have got to take into account the competition are offering thinner machines, equipped with USB C/thunderbolt 3 and with biometric authentication capabilities.

The MBP hardware needs a refresh to keep it competitive.

I don't think it needs to be any thinner if it means sacrifices. The important thinness is the bezel, and the macbook pro is the only one not fugly as all getout. The XPS is thin except for its double-chin and terrible bottom webcam that makes it useless.

Lighter would be very welcome.

Agreed. I don't care about thinness. Can't emphasize it enough. If they can make it lighter without sacrifices, of course I'm not going to say no to that, but that never seems to be the case. There's always some sacrifice. I'll take better cooling and specs over thinness any day.

At least--I don't like how it is the main priority. Thinness uber alles. I understand that thinness is a priority among the competition as well, but it doesn't need to be the #1 priority, AFAIC.

Lighter and thinner would be better but at what cost. It doesn't matter to me now but if I was waiting for the new MBP, I don't want to lose any USB or the HDMI port. In other words, If Apple made it thinner but would lose the USB ports and/or the HDMI port, I'm wouldn't buy it.

Like I mention in other posts (and this one I think), I got the dell xps 15 inch w/ skylake and I honestly don't think heat would be an issue w/ the current MBP model. Unless I'm playing a game and it switches over to the NVidia 960M, the fan doesn't come on at all (or at I can't hear at all). I never used the webcam on my previous MacBook Pro nor on my iMac now so having the webcam at the bottom doesn't bother me at all..in fact have very little bezel/border around the screen is awesome.

Simple the ARM can replaced the low power notebook spot in the macbook but it can never replace the macbook pro.

Arm will eventually creep into the mac line up in the lower end of power needs. Intel can not compete with arm on power sipping.

One very important question has cropped up in my mind over the past days - how Long will the Back to School Action last? My next Semester starts mid September and I could most probably forego a new Laptop for a few weeks, if the sales should start in October for example.

But if I wait until the next Apple Event, will the Action still be on? Just in case I then want to buy the 2015 and make use of the Back to School Action?

And: how Long does it take for the MBP to be AVAILABLE after being introduced? (Generally speaking, since I am new to the Mac world.)

looking at the painfully small writing on Apple.ca. I think Sept 5, 2016:

Purchases must be made from Canada Apple Store locations, the Canadian Apple Online Store for Education Individuals or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE from June 2, 2016, through September 5, 2016

So new macs are coming in October. Apple is kind enough to wait the 14 days return window to close ++ so they don't look like pure evil.

So what are you guys now realistically expecting in the new MBP? My list is:

Expected:
  • quad core Skylake processor
  • slightly thinner design with similar battery life
  • Polaris dGPU
  • 2 x USB-C ports
  • butterfly keyboard, less travel than current MBP but more than MB
Seems likely, but also perhaps not:
  • eGPU support, perhaps through new TBD
  • OLED function key display

This is pretty much what will happen.
It will also include the next generation of NVME SSD. And the RAM will be bumped to DDR4.
And I think the battery time might be slightly increased because of lower TDP. But it depends on how thin they want to make it.

A less likely feature:
More expensive version with ultra resolution HDR display

You have to believe that something is going to happen soon.

Apple has 115,000 employees... what can all these people be working on? Considering that the Mac's are long past their due date, the iPhone 6SS is a modest update on last year's model, the next watch is rumoured to be largely unchanged, iOS and OS X are basically maintenance releases, and the iPads just had a significant update. Seriously, what are all these people working on?

A quick question about thunderbolt 3. Currently I have a dell 2560x1600 monitor connected to my 2011 MBP through mini display port. Picture and text is perfect.
Let's suppose that Apple will include in the new rMBP a thunderbolt 3 port. Will it be compatible with current display port monitors or I'll have to rely on usb-c - Apple display adapter - hdmi?
