Isn't a full discontinuation of the Air and a price drop for the MB more likely?

I can't see how at the current time. They either drop the MB to $900/1000 to match the MBA, or they'd have to then offer a higher cost of entry for those looking for a consumer level Mac laptop. The MacBook is successful where it is although I agree the price is pretty steep for what you're getting. I can see a slight MB price drop once the MBP hits, to separate those two products.

After the MBA was launched in January 2008 ($1799), it took Apple three and a half years to discontinue the white MacBook ($999) in July of 2011. At that point, the entry MBA was also $999. It's the same exact situation:

"The white MacBook had been sold for $999, a price matched by the entry-level MacBook Air, but the MacBook Air offers a smaller display, less storage and connectivity, and no optical drive. On the flip side, the MacBook Air of course offers a sleeker profile and increased portability, and is more in line with Apple's current design aesthetic."

I actually think a 13" MBP price drop to $999 would be more likely than a drastic MB price drop. That cleans up the lineup and offers a pretty awesome entry level machine.

iMac got Skylake already, and I don't see a form factor change with no internal improvements. There's no rumors about a redesign for iMac, while we've had chassis and hinge rumors plus Kuo's 'biggest update ever' comment since May.

And Sierra was announced at WWDC. There isn't enough new Sierra stuff to justify an October event with MBP alone.

Only the 27" 5K iMac has Skylake. The 21.5" is on Broadwell. Might not be technically a redesign. Just new colors, I/O changes, and hopefully better storage offerings.

The OLED Bar's integration with Sierra and its release date are worth talking about.

It's crazy to think somewhere in this thread I was also waiting for a Skylake rMBP, gave up and bought the Mid '14 spec bump, and now I'm back thinking maybe I'll buy the next rMBP to be released.

I can't imagine having waited over 2 years for this! Kudos to those of you who have. Admittedly mine is chugging slightly whilst pushing a 5k scaled display, exporting an FCP project and all the background stuff, so it's not actually fast enough!

My daily tantrum rant. Please ignore, I just have to get it out or I punch kittens.

I've been a Mac/Apple fanboy since before most of you were born. I love OS X.

My 2012 15' rMBP has had it's Nvidia card go out 4 times. I use my Mac for work. I can't have it breaking nonstop, plus now its not covered under warranty even with the Nvidia extension.

I'm using a 2013 13" non-Retina Macbook Pro that is a test machine of mine right now.

The current freaking 15" Macbook Pro is what, 3 generations behind in current Intel CPU/GPU? Not to mention its identical form factor of the one I currently trashed?

Apple is apparently a computer company, they just focus on trinkets, trash, and toys.

I don't need headphones, a silly watch, or a stupid toy to work on the sofa with. (Although I have one).

I'm ready to ditch Apple. But they abandoned me, I didn't abandon them.

...or I punch kittens.

Don't need to ask for them my friend.
There ya go

Haswell in the 2015 rmbp is 4 generations old now that kaby lake cpus are coming out. The mac you trashed from 2012 with ivy bridge is 5 generations old. May as well stick with a 5 generations old cpu while you wait.

It's $250 for the 13" and $350 for the 15" from Apple. Places like B&H Photo sell it a little cheaper ($230 and $300 respectively).

TBH there should be a 3 year warranty on defects on electronics. Those 1 year is like saying our product sucks and don't expect it to work more than one year.

I agree, especially on something as expensive as the rMBP. Not very "Pro" of Apple to offer just a 1 year warranty on their top of the line laptop.

100% my case too: I have been an all-in Apple customer for many years, and I have loved their products...

But they've fallen behind the Windows counterparts. I have been testing the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 as of lately and they are simply amazing machines. OSX is still superior to Windows 10, but the 2-in-1 concept is SO useful, and Apple is only launching gimmicks and iOS toys, not proper computer innovations. So...

I am 99% ready to switch :(

Just a thought, if the OLED bar is indeed real, I wonder if Apple will release a keyboard with OLED as well? Considering half the time I'm plugged into a keyboard/monitor/mouse at home, it would be ideal to have the OLED on my keyboard as well (assuming it's as good as we hope). Also hoping (maybe unrealistically) that it will be a full-size keyboard with a num pad on the right.

That's what I'm thinking. A MBP only event would be kind of silly. I'm hoping for a hardware event in September to show off all the new devices. That would make sense with the summer event covering both macOS and iOS too. Why split the hardware event if the software one wasn't?

I would be gone already if Surface Pro was 15" can't deal with 13 for photoshop. Even with the 15 MBP I intend to push to a 27inch 100% RBG screen.

Might actually apply for an Amex and purchase apple care, 4 years with a warranty, will only have to last 1 year without warranty to hit my 5 years.
I just got an amex but only has a credit limit of 2000 how would I get a 15" on it then do you need to put the whole purchase on the card?

From what I'm aware of yes, full price has to be on the card. You can always call card services to confirm.
