Sigh.... I've been waiting 3 years now and it's finally getting me!! Apple, for the love of all that is holy just give me an updated Mac Pro, or a MacBook Pro with 32-64GB of ram already!!
I feel like Ciff Hanger :

Wow, 32gb or even a whopping 64gb?! And I'm sitting here with 4gb of non upgradable ram. :p

Mind me asking what programs you're using to need so much ram?

Music production. The extreme need for ram comes from full orchestral scores with virtual instruments / plugins + real instruments /etc. + a win 10 VM so I can use win only tools would be handy.

You might think that's overkill so check this out to give you an idea of a common setup for this kind of work: http://osxdaily.com/2015/09/05/mac-setup-home-recording-studio/

16 gb just isn't enough to justify the kind of cash I'm going to be investing.

Can you explain this a bit more? Im completely confused
The UK has a 'fit for purpose' law that basically gives you protection for 5 yrs against defects (on all electrical items, computers, phones, tv, etc ).
Its not black and white exactly but the spirit of law is that you are protected , if something happens within 2 yrs the manufacturer is obliged to repair unless it can prove it was damaged by you and not manufacturing defect. From 2 to 5 yrs you have to prove it's a manufacturing defect and not damage caused by you. Difficult to do the last one (unless of course theme is history of a defect like overheating amd chips on macbook pros for example ). Thank u EU membership.
The US has a similar consumer protection law called the lemon law, which is basically the same thing.

Like anything else you roll the dice. If you can budget for it then thats the way to go. Credit card protection is nice but i'd use that in addition to Applecare. I've had some machines not had any issues but one that was replaced completely with Applecare.

2006 MBP - Ten years strong (crowd goes wild) running rock solid except needing to replace the battery. The best MBP ever.
2007 MBP - Sold, but I believe it was later replaced completely
2008 MBP - Replaced by Apple (4+ warranty repairs)
2010 MBP 17" - No Issues
2011 MBP (Work Rig) - Exhibiting GFX issues
2016 MBP - ?

Aww man forget that, lol. We've been waiting too damn long. Not only do I want a keynote, not only do I want an Ives video. forget that, I want Ives to come out on stage and talk about it. I'll even take Schiller at this point.

They will shout it from the roof tops.

Interesting read, thanks.

What are the odds of the new 13" machine being able to run Diablo III on the integrated graphics? It's the only game I'm interested in. What about the 15" with Iris Pro graphics?

I actually think the prices may go up a little bit with the redesign compared to the current models, especially for us in the UK with the future risk to the pound with regards to Brexit.

Can we expect this year's model to be the same price as the current macbook pros? Was hoping for an earlier release as I need one for college.

Yet Tim Cook considers 'Pro' the following workflow : opening two tabs in browser, writing an email reply in a separate browser window and having pages opened(for spell check), SIMULTANEOUSLY!!

I play D3 on the early 2013 13". Of course i have to tune down everything but it works. I just played it on a friends early 2015 13" and you can already enable lots of gfx options and increqse the resolution. The new Macbook which will most likely feature the 540/550 pro is about 50% faster than the 2015 so should be very capable.

Always keep in mind - the higher the stress - the louder the fans. This will not be a silent experience unless you agree to tone down some settings so the laptop stays cool.

Then why don't i see many people getting claims on iPhones after the first year? Why do manufacturers even list one year warranty then? And why do most of us buy applecare for iPhones if this is true?

Might actually apply for an Amex and purchase apple care, 4 years with a warranty, will only have to last 1 year without warranty to hit my 5 years.

This is one reason I like England - six-year Consumer Law coverage. I have to deal with it very regularly in my job, it's rare for Apple to deny coverage in my experiences.

Unlikely if they don't drop the price of the 12" MacBook.
I expect it to be higher than the current ones.

I never buy AppleCare because i live in Norway, and we have these laws too, possibly even better laws for protecting consumers against bad batteries in iPods etc. I never buy AC because i'm protected anyways

My previous laptop died at the beginning of the year. Early February. I've been holding out for a new MBP ever since. I've made it through 6 months of university without a computer. Many late nights in the computer lab as a result. I almost caved the other day and brought a razer blade 2016 model instead. This wait is killing me.

Traditionally how long before an event do Apple send out media invitations? Shouldn't we start to see some in the next few weeks if an early September event is likely?

Also, any ideas of a rough price point we can expect on release for the lowest most basic model?

why does everyone think the mbp need an extra event? I would be happy if Apple just released it without any PR events
I'm pretty sure that the MacBook Pros will be released alongside macOS Sierra to have Touch-ID support and watchOS integration.
It's obvious that Sierra has some OLED support that they are still hiding in the betas.
