If Apple spends so much time working to create an event then they would not be foolish enough to throw that experience and anticipation away by not making that product immediately available. I'm pretty sure they understand that they would gain nothing by delaying the actual release. Besides, rumors indicate these machines are already in production.

I wonder if the September 7th rumor has some truth to it. The 2 month wait sounds a little fishy (I can see 2 weeks but not 2 months) but other than that, I don't see why its not possible.

I mean really...do you actually think Apple can keep peoples attention for an entire event talking about a refreshed Apple Watch (rumored to be only a slight upgrade and have the same design as the current model) and a new iPhone 7 (6SS) that looks exactly the same as the phone we got from them 2 years ago?

Presenting the new Macbook Pro at the September 7th event might be the best move for Apple. At least that will inject something fresh and revolutionary into their 2016 product line.

A 2 month shipping delay means Apple will stall their MBP sales for 2 months... I know that Apple doesn't care about Macs anymore but I doubt Tim Cook would approve that business decision.

So for those of you tired of waiting. MSI has the new Nvidia 970M-

- VR graphics Ready Card
- 4K 17.3 inch Screen
- Skylake
- 5 pounds for a 17.3 inch laptop so skinny form factor .8 inch thick too.

1800 bucks with rebate from BHP. Ships tomorrow.

how's the trackpad on the MSI laptops? That's pretty much the only reason i stick with apple at this point

I can see it going both ways. On the one hand Apple has got to know that every event it holds without a MBP refresh is a risk of more bad and embarrassing press (even from generally Pro-apple sites and bloggers like the verge). I suspect they don't want the headlines coming out of the Sept 7th event to be: Where the F is my headphone jack and where are the MBPs?!!!! Even if normal people don't care, the tech blogs are catching on to this massive delay and won't hesitate to report on it (as we are seeing already).

On the other hand, in recent years Apple has not been afraid to stretch events out a lot longer than they need to be with needless filler about the environment, and weird videos on I don't even know what. (I like the environment just not at Apple events). They could easily spend 1-2hrs talking about all the boring minutiae of the iPhone 7 (6SS) and Apple Watch 2.0. There is probably also some new software feature or accessory that could take up 30 extra minutes. It just seems more Apple like to give the MBPs their own event.

On the other, other hand, a 2 month delay between announcement and release might make sense if Apple was trying to get some developer support for this OLED bar before release?

Clearly I've got no more clue than the rest here. I feel sorry for those who really need a new computer. I am in this purely for the entertainment value and the wait has still been painful.

The new mobile Pascal series is very, very impressive.
The mobile chips are now within 10% of their desktop counterparts and straight up twice as fast as their predecessors.

Meanwhile the Polaris 11 chip in the new rMBP is expected to perform on par with a GTX 960m which is literally off the charts now.

Razer managed to fit a GTX1060 into their 14" Blade and Apple could have easily fit one into the current rMBP chassis but clearly the quest for thinner devices swayed their decision into AMD's direction for lower power consumption, so we'll be getting outdated graphics hardware once again.

I am probably going to skip the dGPU option in the new rMBP and hope for eGPUs or new iMacs with the mobile GTX1070/GTX1080.

The iPad is nice for making spreadsheets, browsing the web, writing, etc but not for things like programming, photo editing, video editing (the main tasks I use a Mac for) so no, not really..

Sorry, I can't agree that the iPad is good for spreadsheets or writing. The text input on the iPad is fine for quick one-line emails but I would never try to write a whole document or write code with it.

What the iPad is good for is simple web browsing and emailing, consumption of audio/video, and games. It is still so far from being a laptop replacement that I am embarrassed for Tim Cook for making that comment.

Yup, sadly Polaris is looking like AMD's 14nm GPU's providing the same performance as Nvidia's 28nm Maxwell chips for the same power usage. Really sad that Apple is charging premium prices for a severely outclassed competitor. The Polaris 470/480's have really good price/performance, but very sadly lacking in performance/watt which is the most important factor in mobile. I may just go with an updated XPS 15 with a 1060 as my first Windows laptop in about a decade due to Apple's poor hardware choices.

But Skylake for laptops doesn't exist!

Wait. Am I doing this right?

Some do, some do not as far as shipping in actual laptops. The latter is what is most likely expected in a MBP (and now someone will remind us again of the mobile Xeons). Also the MacBook is Skylake (M), so what are you talking about?

One thing is sure, Apple will release the new rMBP before Christmas because in this period the :apple: Sales :apple: increase dramatically !!! :D

Oh here is the link

That thing looks like s***. There's absolutely zero chance I would bring that thing into a professional setting, regardless of the specs.

I'm glad we have a credible release date. It'll be nice to have a good laptop in a few months. The potential Polaris 11 GPUs sound so tempting but I don't have the cash to throw at them so I'll have to sit and watch them from afar.

uh, what? I thought NVIDIA specified a GTX 980 as the minimum requirement for mobile VR.

Mac Pro, Apple Watch, and iPad Pro were all unveiled months before release.

I recently realized Apple's fiscal year ends at the end of September. So putting something in the first fiscal quarter of 2017 + the holiday season starts FY17 off to a bang (exactly like iPad Pro last year which was released in November).

Back to school would be over. People who needed a laptop either bought a current Apple product, or went elsewhere. Apple knows others are still waiting, so a reveal makes more people hold onto their cash.

I think he mixed things up there. You'd have to be crazy to buy a 970m notebook for VR now that the 10-series chips are out and deliver almost twice the performance with similar power requirements and price points.

I highly recommend the graph on this site to get a feeling for what a quantum leap the new Pascal chips are:

http://alteredqualia.com/texts/notebooks/

According to the fresh reviews today a (mobile) GTX1060 is about the minimum for decent VR experience but you really want a (mobile) GTX1070 or better.

Polaris 11 will be somewhere around the 960m/965m, less than half the performance of a GTX1060.
