Seems to me they're jumping to conclusions with the article, which claims something will come out in September, but my supply chain knowledge is pretty limited.

Quote:
"Some reports out of China now suggest that Apple just might launch its MacBooks next month. Supply chain sources claim that Quanta computer, Cupertino’s primary manufacturing for the MacBook lineup expects a major customer to hold a conference next month. While Quanta’s got a lot of customers, this just might be Apple, though nothing’s set in stone as usual. Quanta expects this to contribute significantly towards revenues, with the company’s performance to exceed the first half of 2016."

Just out of curiosity, does anyone except Apple hold "a conference" of that nature?
[doublepost=1471809846][/doublepost]They used their pro moniker elsewhere guys, looks like no MB Pro this year.

Stupid comment brought on by front page. Please excuse.

ok, you got the link...

I just wanted to say tho, now this is a little crazy, but I keep burning about this:

Open Box, from Best Buy for the 2015 rMBP, 2.2 with 16GB 256GB, no-dGPU. $1,672 comes out to ~ $1,800 (tax).

The no-dGPU is a slight bonus because no gaming for me, per se, but no possibility of crashing because of on the fly switching.

But I get MAG-SAFE (yea!) which I love, 2 USB (old school), and a thunderbolt port (TB2). The 2016 rMBP with tax is going to be around $2,800, for dGPU/512

I would save a flat $1,000, plus I can get a slick case for it from Amazon from whomever.

Just burns...but $1G is NICE! I can use this for 2 years then get Kaby Lake, with OLED tested for 1 Generation...along with TB3 tested for 1 Generation too... ARRGH

EDIT:
p.s. oh and I forgot to mention, non-solder PCIe SSD I can swap out!

If this is the case perhaps we will see stock shortages after the next week or so. I'm not going to panic until Best Buy starts running thin.

That's kind of an odd way to look at it, comparing the price of base model 2015 to a mid tier 2016. Is the base 2016 not a consideration?

no the base 2016 is absolute no go, because I would want a 5 year machine. But if I skimp, and get a 2-3 year machine, and then go Kaby Lake (or whatever tick tock tock), I get an even better tested machine...an honestly all I want to do is Retina Based testing of Xcode Apps and Websites...

and yeah look what you are getting:

kinda lame ports unless what you have tons of TB3 sitting around?

but you get a dGPU and an extra 256GB of SSD for $1000, but seriously the performance of the GHz is blah bleh...

But idk man I just look new ports as like eh/ugh

EDIT:

To me I am like Apple announces HUGE JUMP Thunderbolt 5!

and it's what am I going to do? Buy some crazy ass RAID Array? for my Laptop?

Get some crazy 4K camera with TB5? so I can fill that RAID? I don't produce 4K video...

what else would you do with TB5? all I can think of that I would do,
would be get a TB5 flash "stick" 64GB and put Windows 10, a Linux on em, and Mac
basically external OSes to boot from it for emergency and experimentation.

It's just like what is everyone going to do with Thunderbolt 3? That's like so great?
except merge all the cables into one... it's like idk man...

I just don't see all this immediate advantage of TB3...I mean don't get me wrong,
booting macOS from a bad ass external TB3 drive would be killer, but yeah...whatever

Got tired of waiting and grabbed a XPS 15 9550 w/ FHD, upgraded battery, i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GTX 960M. Under 1,500 with my corporate discount. Pairing with a LG 34UC88-B. The setup is fantastic. Also switched to a Samsung Note 7. Done w/ Apple.

reply: Dang.

on a side note: the only thing that would depress me about getting a cheaper 2015 vs a costly 2016 would be if the 2016 had a 4K screen, yes I would cry and be sad, very sad...

Thank God; the rules of luck state that this means the new MacBook Pro is coming out tomorrow! So pumped :D

@pmau

I'm hoping for an announcement in September with a release in October in that case. I think that it is a good opportunity to announce it and make a presentation on it given the lacklustre iPhone 7.

I could see an announcement/showing in Sept. A la, Mac Pro. Sales have been so pathetic, they need to show something to entice people to hold off a bit longer.

I will not be a first day buyer of any new macbook, because

* Let's find out what the battery capacity is, instead of "runs like 10 hours"
* Let's find out if there are some chipset issues with Apple's idea of USB-C, TB3, HDMI, Ethernet etc.
* Let's find out how the AMD chips are clocked and throttled due to thermal constraints
* Let's find out how the keyboard really feels and if the change the switches because its a non-wedged design
* Let's find out if Apple has used some wacky WiFi / Bluetooth chip combo that has crappy antennae and causes issues
* Let's find out how thin and fragile the display will be, I personally hate the obsession for thinness.
* Let's see if there's at least two backward compatible USB Ports I can use for my headset and older hard drives.

As you can see, these are mainly hardware issues, which is why I'm totally worried.

What they certainly will do:

* Deliver a great trackpad
* Deliver decent speakers
* Deliver a nice feel with great build quality
* Deliver Touch ID and the fun OLED bar which will be unique

I'm really skeptical, and if we have to wait for October there will be some nice versions of NVIDIA 10x0 GPU based models around to choose from the competition.

Apple's time is running out, if they ship end of October. But that's just my opinion.

I know people who already bought additional Windows Laptops and are simply keeping their current MacBooks and will definitely not spend additional money on Apple.

I'll be a first minute buyer for sure. I'll let you know how it is!

Well I ordered my 2.2 256GB 2015 rMBP, pickup tomorrow... couldn't wait saved a $1,000 will get it 2 months ahead of time, and will get a 2ND GEN of THIS 2016 BEAST when it hits in 2017-2018!, I see problems with this one, good luck boys! ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

EDIT:
One of my main deciding factors is, if I waited till October for the 2016 to get shipped to me, by the time I set things up we're looking at October 15th all ready to work with it, and by Oct 15th next thing you know it's Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas. These last 2-3 months of the year go by so freakin fast, I have to work (and work with this rMBP). I aint got 2 months to just piss away...I already did that for 2 months on these forums since one month before WWDC! so yeah, pulled the trigger a little late, but I'll be happier with my 2nd Gen...such is the life of some of OUR MACS... you know this...tho...

Because he's ONE analyst.

Ming Chi Kuo is always right. Of that there is no debate. The real question is how is he always so right when the rest of the field is wrong?

When he says Q4, it's Q4. Now might he be off by a little on the timeline, sure. But the point is that the MBPs will debut later than people expect--well after back to school season and after the iPhone 7 but in time for Xmas season. This is much later than most people anticipated. Also I consider him to be right when he said there would be a smaller iPhone with multiple colors in a 4" form factor. He thought it would be a metal 5c or something like that. Or a 5s. This was way earlier a prediction, but it ultimately came true in the SE. Rereading his earliest predictions, the model name is wrong, but the details are accurate...certainly more accurate than anyone else was saying at the time. Most were saying that Apple is not going to make a 4" iPhone anymore because everyone who upgraded loved the larger screens. They'd just wait for the iPhone 6 to take the place of the 5s, price wise. But MingChiKuo stuck with his prediction.

I'm pretty impressed. And I believe him when he says the new Pros will be a big update but arrive later than we think. Luckily, we're about 3 months away from actually being able to buy the thing. Will it be worth it? Hope so

What worries me the most is the fact that I struggle to find options... Apple is going to release underwhelming iPhones and they forgot how to build computers, that's a fact. Unfortunately, I dislike Microsoft and Google products as well.
This is not looking good... Luckily I can probably go for another year or so with what I have before needing to upgrade, but the future does not look exciting at all.

Apparently Rev 1 will catch fire as soon as you open the box. Gotta wait for the 2019 MBP.

What killawat? :D Freakin look at all the problems Microsoft had with their SkyLake Laptop, a whole year of crap! I know this is Apple, but nah...to much NEW, for me...

This laptop honestly looks like the Beast that Apple doesn't want to make/rush out the door, but everyone is like hey where is the NEW MacBook Pro?

I can tell if Apple did what they wanted they wouldn't even release this one and WOULD WAIT for Kaby Lake, but the product is dying, and the season is nigh...

While it probably won't literally catch fire, I do think there is a reasonable chance that at least one thing may go wrong out of all the significantly new things they're bringing.

Does it justify the extra wait? Depends on how desperate you are for the new rMBP, I guess.

Personally, I'm inclined to wait until the Kaby Lake refresh (if it is indeed coming next spring-ish) to give more time for 3rd party USB-C peripherals to catch up. The current ones out there are not 85 W power or 4K friendly at all.

I'm good w/ my SE for a phone but I'm stuck for too long now on refurb mid2012 MBPs, even scarfed up another one when i saw the last new alternative that was rolled out. I don't require a lot any more of a laptop so lagging the tech doesn't bother me as much as the fact that I'd much rather have more user-replaceable parts than all this thinnest yet stuff.

I admit that I was thrilled w/ the original MBA when I got it because before that I was running up and downstairs all day between my fabric stash and my studio, with a relatively heavy blackjack macbook or an old G4 powerbook in tow. Now I stuck another laptop upstairs, so,,,, I'm back to wishing I could swtich out a batt instead of having to prep a machine to ship in for apple to do it, etc.

Bottom line count me in category of still waiting, not expecting ever to see that part of my wishlist.

They stated that in order to get TB3/USB-C/3 working, since they are using SkyLake, they will have to interface with a bridging chip for the TB3 and USB-C/3 to the CPU.

Every version and implementation of Thunderbolt has needed a "bridging chip" so far. Heck, even the rMB needs a "bridging chip" to implement the Display Port alternate mode on USB-C.

So - don't be panicked about the need for a "bridging chip".

Of course, theres always this chance but this occurs with every revision of MBP or any other computer for that matter. Even if something does go wrong, this is why we have Applecare for a(tleast) year.

At this point I have more USB-C stuff than USB-C ports (specifically USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps enclosures). Soon to have a TB3 external PCIe enclosure (thanks Akitio) and still no macs :(.

I can tell if Apple did what they wanted they wouldn't even release this one and WOULD WAIT for Kaby Lake, but the product is dying, and the season is nigh...

That implies Kaby-H is near, which it isn't, I mean yeah they're on the roadmap but we have no idea when they will be available. Compared to Haswell the Skylake iGPU will be a massive upgrade, while Skylake compared to Kaby will be a smaller jump.

&, Kaby will be nice when it is released but no guarantees that Apple will use it. I mean, they should right? Or thats what people were saying when Apple skipped Broadwell (for the 15"). Surely Broadwell or Skylake(!) was right around the corner but look, still waiting over a year later. Some of us are using 3,4,5 year old rigs and we're ready to buy.
