#TeamKabyLake
I'm so ****ing sick of clueless people who whine bout KabyLake this and SkyLake that. No, not one single full 45W laptop is going to ship KabyLake before 2017. IDC bout Acer's 15W 13" and I never will.
2 - No, Dell wont ship their XPS with 1060. Yes they ship 960m, but that uses 45W less power than the 960m, and they cant dissipate that amount of heat. Anyone who has any technical insight will be happy with Apples MBP whenever they ship with whatever AMD card. Because they won't be way later than any other Laptop company with those chips, and the AMD card will be good for the power consumption and Nvidia don't have any lower TDP than 120W for their mobile chips in the 10 series.

Well until now, it sucked every time one tried.

Atrocious. While Apple's version will certainly be more visually polished, I'll never be convinced to be distracted by having to look DOWN at the keyboard to get stuff done (or use the old function buttons). Even with proper visual design, that just doesn't make any sense.

@Cincyguy74
Still don't get what the reason is....

'Skylake' and 'Kabylake' are just names for an entire family of chips. Yes some companies have Kabylake already, but these are lower-powered and have the base level of iGPU that Intel uses. Because Apple like to use the chips with the better iGPUs (which take longer to develop by Intel, I can only assume) they have to wait longer for them to be released.

For Akitio hopefuls, found this on another forum. Our waits will be rewarded:

Translate:

About graphics applications, due APPLE INTEL and for Thunderbolt product certification and adhere to certain rules, so some features have not been able to satisfy all customers, especially in Thunderbolt1, age 2, APPLE does not agree to support external graphics applications.
But Thunderbolt3 has been a breakthrough, this year we have been exhibited computex specifically to meet the external graphics box, before the end of the year and early this, we can refer to the current exhibition in the ongoing reports

What we already knew. eGPU was officially never supported on TB1/2 for whatever reason, intel now bake eGPU into spec but will Apple support it in Sierra? $million dollar question. But why is Akitio mention Apple specifically?? <triggered>

Akitio Thunder3 eGFX (Increase housing built high-wattage power supply), with a 1080 card uses strengthening Intel NUC, doubling the performance. Coming soon, so stay tuned!

Now don't get hopes up, no web drivers for 10x0 series cards in Mac anyway but this could change the tide if the price is right (slightly more than PCIe box but less than razor core). Estimates say gfx box release by years end.

You're absolutely right. And I have no way of knowing that Apple won't screw it up either. My optimism is based on previous times where Apple unsucked my preconceptions, and I thin the OLED bar could be another time this could happen.

I've been making mobile apps since 2002 and over the years have used touch screen phones by Ericsson, Nokia and HTC that all sucked. So when Apple announced the iPhone I didn't see the big deal, it didn't even have 3G, remember. Based on its specs and experience I ridiculed my friends who ordered one. Then I actually used it and was blown away by how much better Apple's touch screen was: capacitive, multitouch, full OS integration and a completely intuitive UI.

When I first heard about the iPad, I figured it would suck, as did all the Windows tablets I had used in the past. And specs didn't impress me either, to me it simply seemed like a large iPod Touch. Then I tried it out myself it and within minutes reached for my credit card and told my friends they should get one too.

Apple still gets beaten on raw specs, especially these days. In individual domains like hardware, OS, UI and APIs, other companies are innovating more and offer more up to date solutions at a lower price. But Apple is the company that can make these domains come together better and more successfully than anyone else. Of all the rumours of the next gen MBP I think that the OLED bar is the one area for laptops where Apple's capability to take an idea that has been poorly executed by others in the past to another level and make us reach for our credit cards.

I'm still holding out hope for a Sept 7 showing. They can do a pre-order with delivery in Oct. I remember when I ordered my 2012 on launch day. Took almost a month to be delivered. I'd imagine there's even more demand now because of the record time since the last release (and the fact that it didn't even include a processor upgrade). They can have pre-orders now to allow more of them to be available to consumers on launch day (sometime in Oct with a Sierra release).

About the OLED bar, I hope you guys are right. That said, I don't feel very optimistic especially because we should not compare the current Apple (remember the crappy hd in the iMac and other poor choices like that) against the "Steve in his prime" Apple.
The good news is that we'll get more info soon and by the end of the year we'll know everything :)

The current models suit me better but I can't bring myself to spend so much money on such an outdated machine (15").

The wait continues. 7 days.

The thing is that Apple doesn't just implement new design or tech just like that. They have one or two years of internal testing before something bigger sees daylight. When OLED / curved glass rumors started to echo around the future iPhone looooong time ago, I always knew they wouldn't come until 2017. Then, if something doesn't feel right or good enough, Apple won't proceed. This happened with Sapphire glass. Apple has many patents and some of them work, some don't. Without a thorough testing process of the concepts Apple would lose their 'top quality finish' product image.

So even if it sounds scary I'm pretty sure OLED touch bar isn't going to be a disaster. It might not steal everybody's hearts but neither did the butterfly keyboard.

I'm intrigued and can't wait to try it before I judge. I made a list back in May when the rumours of the OLED strip first surfaced:

- App specific contextual items (shortcuts, menu items etc)
- Alerts and notifications
- Menu bar & dock replacement
- This would also breing a more iPad Pro-style multitasking approach to Mac, with the entire main screen filled with one or more apps only. All other items like menu bar, dock, sidebar are relegated to a screen on the keyboard)
- Visual copy/paste (instead of guessing what's on your clipboard, you can see it)
- iTunes (and other media app) mini player with track info
- Integration with Homekit: check and control lights, temperature etc
- Multitasking & window management / Expose replacement
- In addition to touch, swipe and other gestures can add more benefits as well. I can even see creative use for two-handed touch (one hand on the touchpad, one hand on the touch strip), like music or video editing.

The more I think about it, the more interested I am!
I dunno man, everyone is missing the point. You have a keyboard for your fingers, not your eyes. I'm not looking at the keyboard when i type or adjust the volume or whatever. I look at the screen.

It's just a lame ass gimmick. I think their resoning is that it locks more people into their eco system due only mac native apps will support it = win win for them.

Just joined to tell you that in Finland the stores that specialise in Apple products offer their Back to School discounts until October 3. The small print says you cannot get the discount for products released after August 1, but the October ending date still seems quite convenient.
