Dear readers, here is the gist:
No update, yet again.

We're furious, we're going to leave Apple. No respect to the customers who spend the most money and the most loyal.I feel this way exactly.

Then we shop around and realize there's still nothing that's as pleasant to use nor as real world fast as these "old" macbook pros that are supposedly underpowered and overpriced.

So we come back with our tails tucked in between our legs and wait without any self-dignity.

Solution: competitors, make a retina screen with an OS that scales reliably and put a trackpad in it that works. Done. We don't even care if you completely ape the macbook pro's design. Just do it and I'm ready to go.

But I know that no one will do that because it's not that easy or no one has the patience to engineer a trackpad that is as responsive.

Actually I bought a a Surface Pro 4 to tide me over and I have to say that in terms of hardware, Microsoft has killed it, perhaps even more so than Apple. The lightweight Magnesium tablet is wonderful to use, and the trackpad is akin to Apple trackpads.
As for your OS complaints, go ahead and run Mac OS X...there are many, albeit illegal, ways to do that. The 267 ppi display is far better than any laptop Retina display I've seen, and OS X scales perfectly. I bought this so I could wait for a MacBook, I might not need one now. Also touch input can get very useful. I can conclude that Microsoft hardware is very much comparable to Apple in 2016.

Alright friends, this is it. Like an Orphan child that always get picked last for the team, but somehow ends up with the ball in a tie game and only minutes to go in the game, .... it .... is ..... our ..... time ..... now (please sir, more porridge).

So this week is iPhone sales and news, next week is iOS. When does Orphan Annie Mac finally get to shine ?

A keynote seems unlikely. I think it would be too embarrassing. So the Gruber guess of journalist invites, get the machine for a week, and then publication all at once seems more likely. When is this ? October 3rd secret invites, 10th release ?

Guesses ?

Remember fellow orphans, clean the dirt off your rags, the new parents might look our way now for a real change the first time in almost half a decade .... C O U R A G E.

EDIT : Sorry, likely too much lead paint in the orphanage. I see a few pages back the guess seems to be end of October. Another fricken 1.5 months.

No keynote, no major change, which seems unlikely at this point..

There is something i find interesting. I was looking at iPhone 7 preorder and then i saw the picture "What's in the box". It still includes only lightning to USB (not usb-c) cable.
New MB-s have only USB-C ports, old MBA and MBP of course have regular USB but when have Apple ever been concerned about the past products. So.. is there a chance that we'll see ordinary USB-A ports in the future?

One can hope, but I believe what will happen is another dongle to convert from USB to USB-C

I believe Phill summarised it perfectly: COURAGE

Mind you, we don't actually KNOW that. So it might be March next year. Or never. The computers have reached the absolute peak (in Apple's collective head) and don't need to be updated anymore. Except the prices, especially in the UK. Those need to go up so you can be assured you're buying only the best.

Personally I want it to be completely USB C/Thunderbolt 3. I want my computer to be truly future proof. USB A will help me for the present, but 2 years from now might be obsolete. I'm perfectly willing to carry around 2 USB C to USB A adapters so that I can still use older tech (I always carry my laptop in a bag so 2 adapters wouldn't be an issue). Plus, I'm hoping for Thunderbolt 3 displays to pop up from 3rd parties with high resolution (Hoping for 3rd party because Apple's version will cost a fortune). I'm holding off buying a high res display for that purpose.

The only thing I would be pissed off about is if it takes 5-6 years for USB C to become the standard. That would mean that the ports would be a complete waste.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows of an affordable SSD with good speeds. I want one for faster backups and file storage. Need at least 2 TB and hoping for portable.

Not trying to be a jerk but that's probably not Apple's fault.

Doesnt really mean anything. the macbook is an only usb-c computer also remember. Apple will push dongles with their computers they wouldn't ever include a usbc cable with an iPhone. Separate purchase for sure. Maybe in a few years but not for this years macbook pro even if its full usb-c

The iPhone 7 is tempting, I might just get that and a 13" rMBP instead of a 15" rMBP.... it's a shame that Apple isn't offering an even cheaper 16 GB model, otherwise I'd be much more tempted. But they'd probably get negative comments for doing that. At least we get double storage now.

Since we've seen Iris 550/IP580 and Polaris in El Capitan, pretty sure we're locked for October now, unless Ming Chi-Kuo and Mark Gurman are both wrong.

Microsoft has kind of nailed it with the Surface line, they did have issues with battery life and sleep but that's because of Intel's early and crappy Skylake CPUs.

I have a Surface 3 myself, the one with the Atom CPU, and while it's not a workhorse by any means, I can:
  • run Windows 10 Pro
  • use a pen
  • use the touchscreen
  • run virtual machines on it - Linux with lightwm flies on it. No 3d though.
  • run Office completely fine
  • use the Linux subsystem, I need this for my job
So, while I really love Apple products, right now they are in chasing mode, they are not ahead of everyone else like they use to. Microsoft's SurfaceBook looks amazing and when the Linux subsystem works close to 100% I might not need a Mac. My co-workers are in the same boat, I talk about a few tens of people I work with and know, I can't imagine how many are in the same boat worldwide. Same with the XPS line, I can get a XPS 13 for $1999AUD, with really good specs and it's really tempting me.

Apple, really, bring something out and amaze us, you can't do less than amaze, otherwise you're done.

Also, I really can't understand why people are buying MBPs for office, facebook and reading pdfs. A regular Macbook is more than adequate for those tasks, plus you get to have it in gold :)

Edit:
Phew I sound so ****ing bitter. I've been saving money for close to a year now, come on Apple...

I don't want a computer to have touch capabilities, but it seems most of the high end have. Like all Dell 4k screens have touch and I feel I'm paying for a functionality I will not use

Don't worry Apple knows better, they always do.

I found something old on my facebook profile...
Who could have imagined that this vision would become reality, one day?
Apple, you're so futuristic!

What does this have to do with Skylake or the MacBook Pro? And Apple has stopped lengthening the screen. The only major change was between the 4 and 5, because the aspect ratio changed.

Did you try typing or doing actual work on the macbook? It's horrible!

Try typing on the MacBook like someone mentioned..The travel time is so short and if you happen to have bigger hands the thing is too small.

Also the prices are similar to a real mbp and it doesn't even come close in terms of performance.

Yep. I type for a living. Not a problem. I also have several mechanical keyboards using Alps white, Alps beige, Matias QC and Clicky switches, Zealios, Cherry blue, Gateron blue and Cherry brown. And Topre of course.

I know typing. That keyboard is not as bad as you're making it out to be.

No.

Why would you assume that Apple would ship anything but a bog standard USB-A cable in the box at this time? Only a single computer they are shipping today supports USB-C, let alone 99% of all PC users.

Why would they waste the money throwing in a cable, and pissing off people a second time relating to cables on the iPhone7 that most people can't use?

When we get updated rMBP with USB-C then we'll start seeing USB-C cables and then it will be a gradual transition to USB-C as the standard cable, over a number of years.
