F this. I'm not going to buy this thing.

And hey... when do the quad core Kaby Lake chips come out?

Looks like right about now. (q4 2016)

Some people looking really wrong here, since Apple actually ended up using the Skylake chips that were released a year ago and not the new ones with Iris graphics in the 15" MBP. To be fair, it seemed pretty likely Apple would've used the Iris models given what the 2015 lineup looked like.

Now the question is when and what will the next MBP update look like? Based on the above Intel roadmap, and Apple's current choice of processors, we could see an all Kaby Lake lineup for the MBP's come out of Apple's spring event. The 45W Kaby Lake processors suitable for the 15" MBP with the standard HD graphics come out at the end of this year and the 28W versions with Iris graphics launch early next spring(ish). Also, in the past, the first revision of a new design has come with a modest price drop as well. A man can dream can't he?

Looks like Apple is ditching GT4e (perhaps rightly so). We may see a pretty quick update to Kaby Lake this time around...

Apple has a lot of testers for the Touch Bar now, so any major hardware bugs could be fixed by a March Kaby Lake update. Add the 32GB RAM option there and a price drop and we'll get a great laptop! :D

I'm skipping the Skylake MBP, will wait for Kaby Lake or Canon Lake until a price drop happens.

Kaby Lake with a small price drop and DDR4 RAM in March please.

Finally some reasonable people in here! :)

I fear that the next update may be to Coffee Lake chips in 2018: Hexacore GT2 + dGPU for the MBP15, and quad core GT3e for both variants of the MBP13. They might sneak in a Kaby Lake update, but it won't be much of an upgrade. We've now had a chassis update, so that won't change for a few years. The configurations also align with Intel's roadmap. Hence, the crystal ball is quite clear.

I now wonder about the rMB: Perhaps it'll go directly to Cannon Lake from the current Sky Lake?

Basically. My mid-2012 rMBP has 16GB of RAM. You're telling me that in 2017 I'm only going to be able to buy a MBP with 16GB of RAM max? What?!??

My early 2011 MacBook Pro has 16 GB ram. And the ram is the only bottleneck I have in performance. Sad to see that I cannot really upgrade the performance of my early 2011 Macbook, in late 2016. Not even for 2 800 USD...

Yes, I going hold off until Apple at least has DDR4! Not sure about Apple going with Kaby Lake 28W CPU but it would be ideal it Apple did use the current CPU on the Spring refresh MacBook Pro. If Apple does this, Inwill buy a new MacBook Pro.

Wait this new machine is only DDR3 ?

OKEY! People, feedback NOW!

Is the processor apple used in the New macbook pro 15 from 2015 q3!? WTF!?

If so, why would People here say skylake appropriate for the macbook pro just got released?

LOL, no. No Kaby Lake or what the f other chip they want to use. At the rate they continue to prices these boxes with their "innovative" updates, they can keep 'em. Good luck folks...time to pop smoke and call it a day.

So Apple could release new MBPS with Kabylake either at WWDC or in a year. Not sure if it's worth the wait.
**** Apple I don't want DDR3 and 16GB!

Does Kaby Lake really bring anything to the table from Apple's point of view to warrant an upgrade already in March? I don't think so.

Yes, I know Kaby Lake has H.265 video decode hardware, but at least the MBP 15 2016 has that covered on the GPU. Apple will probably also have a good deal on Sky Lake CPU's in place that will save them a petty penny over Kaby Lake for the next year.

I don't see them doing an update to Kaby Lake before October 2017, honestly.

Have fun waiting 3 years for an update guys, you saw for yourselves how Apple creamed themselves on stage over the MacBooks yesterday, no chance in hell you'll see an update for the macs any time soon at least not in the next 2 years

What? They can always just update the CPU, GPU and ram without doing a redesign or anything. Yeah, they might need to update the logic board, so it is a bit more involving than just changing those, but not a huge deal at all.

Now, a redesign is definitely 4 years out from here, no argument about that.

The 16GB RAM limit from early 2011 is getting a bit old when PC´s do 64GB already..
If you change every ≈4years you might still be using 16GB in early 2021..
A decade with out improvement..

The removal of the card reader sucks as well, but guess that won't come back ever again.
Probably cost Apple to much money in lost storage upgrades.
I rather buy a cheap SD card for storage of random documents than spend $500 to upgrade the Apple SSD..

Pretty much stuck. I've got an aging Early 2011 that needs to be replaced, but what Apple released yesterday really frustrates me. I can live with everything except the old CPU and the 16gb cap, because I want this thing to last 4-5 years. But I also can't wait till whenever they decide to do this again - who knows when that'll be. Maybe another year and a half if we're lucky?

Right now I'm operating on the hope that the sales numbers for these new MBP's are terrible, and Apple releases the next Kaby Lake version at a cheaper price fairly quickly.
