Right now I'm operating on the hope that the sales numbers for these new MBP's are terrible, and Apple releases the next Kaby Lake version at a cheaper price fairly quickly.

I wish I had that same sentiment - but the MacBook Pro is such a small component of their overall revenue, that I doubt they'll scramble to correct this wrong. I'm fine with the externals --- I'll even pay their dumb premium for the strip of fake buttons I don't need. But the internals should have been fast by today's standards.

Making due with my work computer a 2014 MBP. I refuse to pay premium price for a nerfed product. Not that I think they will remove the Touch Bar for next revision, but one can hope they introduce a 15" version with regular function buttons.

The 16GB RAM limit from early 2011 is getting a bit old when PC´s do 64GB already..
If you change every ≈4years you might still be using 16GB in early 2021..
A decade with out improvement..

The removal of the card reader sucks as well, but guess that won't come back ever again.
Probably cost Apple to much money in lost storage upgrades.
I rather buy a cheap SD card for storage of random documents than spend $500 to upgrade the Apple SSD..
64GB? why the heck would anyone need 64GB? That sounds crazy for even the most intensive applications

My early 2011 MacBook Pro has 16 GB ram. And the ram is the only bottleneck I have in performance. Sad to see that I cannot really upgrade the performance of my early 2011 Macbook, in late 2016. Not even for 2 800 USD...
I thought the 2011 MBP supported up to 16GB, but not as a BTO option since it had user replaceable RAM. I might be wrong, though, but if I'm not that would be even funnier. Wait, did I say funny? I meant sad.

Im still undecided. Wanted to upgrade bad since February (when my 13" Retina warranty ran out). Now with the lack of useful ports, magsafe, cardreader and the huge price increase for a (for me) pointless touchbar is out, i dont know what i should be doing.

Maybe i just wait for Kaby Lake and hope for a price drop.

It happened with the original Retina. $1699 in Oct. 2012, new version March 2013 was slashed to $1499 (and even lower over time, I believe the base model was $1299 in 2015).

Ha ha, you guys nearly got me. Why get this model when I could wait for the Kaby Lake refresh in March?

But then I remembered - anticipation of the March event followed by disappointment, then anticipation of WWDC followed by disappointment, then disbelief that it could drag out all the way to November...

Nope, got to get off the bus sometime. My order is in for the 2016 MBP.

Should a company which continues to disappoint, really get your money?

That is correct, with third party RAM you could go up to 16GB with that model.

It's only a limit if you need more. But I get where you are trying to go, It should be an option to fit in 32Gb.

I've managed the last 5 years with 8Gb. Only needed more a couple of times when pushing Virtual Machines, so 16 should be more than enough.

This being said, I totally get that people want to skip this generation. CPU's arent more powerfull (the 2.7Ghz 6820HQ is as powerfull as the 2.5Ghz Haswell that is replacing, the 2.6 Ghz 6700HQ is even weaker), and the prices are high as hell.

If I alreaddy had a Mac, I would defenetly wait. I don't. And I want as much GPU power as I can have, so buying the 2015 one wasn't an option. I bought this new 15'' Mac, in 5 years I'll buy another... If Apple still makes them.

I am going to join this thread now. I am very reluctant to order the new one. I probably will buy the mid 2015 or stick to current one until next refresh/price drop/refurb.

Some people really don't want to assume their RAM needs are going to stay the same for 4 years, ya know. That's a pretty major gripe for a "Pro" machine, even a complete deal breaker, as RAM can be the least negotiable component to run software properly.

Here here Kaby Lake has too many benefits. Will wait. A 13" MBP with Kaby Lake is a good 5 year investment
I honestly may not even upgrade to Kaby if it comes out. Because aside of needing a Quad core, I need ports! So a Kaby Lake processor wont do me much better when I'm still stuck with 4 USB-C ports that I have to find adapters/hubs for.

I probably spent an hour after initially pre-ordering the 2016 searching for hubs / adapters and just thought "this is ridiculous.." especially reading about how hubs may not work 100%. With my 2015 refurb, i only needed a thunderbolt-to-ethernet adapter, and I got a USB 3.0 4-port, but I could use a USB hub now since I have 4 devices at home and my 17" can only house 3 at a time.

Going to be waiting a long time.. I doubt whether Apple will update the MBP for another 12 months. Apple may even skip Kaby Lake...

I wonder if Laby Lake based laptops will be affordable / good value for money? Will Apple make another price hike?

Just saw this article and thought people would find it interesting....

I'm sure I'll get flamed for posting it but eh....

K/L is about graphics performance.

Looks like right about now. (q4 2016)

As the MBPs didn't get the H Processor as expected(?), my question is: Wouldn't there have been Kaby Lake processors - at least for the 13" Dual Core Models - availible already? Especially for the base 13" with 15 W, right?

Oh sweet summer children, expecting new MBP by march. I wouldn't hold my breath for at least a year, by the looks of their latest updates.

They have not yet updated other models.

Yeah, I don't know if they'd update it so quickly after rolling out the skylake models, and you're spot on, that the iMac has yet to be updated.

I think at some point apple will officially kill off the Mac Pro and maybe even the mini by then

I miss those days. I'm thinking about going to 32GB in my work iMac but I might be due for an upgrade next year anyway so we'll see.
