Thinking a refresh may be on the horizon very soon - Best Buy is showing "Sold Out" on quite a few Macbook pro models. Especially the Space Grey. Silver models are at $150 - $200 off. Or else, Best Buy is dropping Apple - which I would highly doubt.

Car was broken into, it wasn't in sight, but my rental was a freakin Expedition EL which i'm thinking screams rental/tourist in Santa Monica (it also has the little window stickers that rental companies put on)

This actually made me chuckle.....
Sorry about that. Can't imagine losing mine right now. Also a reminder I need to back it up before I travel abroad soon.

I am more inclined to think they are selling well with the sell. I dont see Apple doing a refresh until June on the MacBook Pro’s considering Intel has not even annnounced the chips they would use. They’ve only leaked so far but hey each day is a step closer

I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I just checked for myself and there isn’t a single MBP that isn’t listed as sold out right now.

Maybe it's just in the Northeast that they're sold out. Or there's a glitch in their website. Either way, I'm in no real hurry. Whether it's March or June, makes no difference to me. My mid 2012 still humming along.

This will of course be just guessing, but would you think that when the 2018 MBP models are launched that Apple will offer a 2017 15" MBP without dGPU, just like the mid 2015 15" that they currently offer?

M Night Shamlyam-esque plot twist: Price increase!! :D
Another plot twist! Maybe this has all been a long con by Apple in a sort of "new coke" ploy to get everyone hating the new machines. They announce a new "Macbook SE" which is the 2015 chassis with updated internals and TB3 swapped for TB2 and suddenly everyone loves Apple again.

The issue is that the 7th gen 45W chips don't come with Iris graphics - only HD. That's probably not enough on it's own for a high end machine like this.

That would be an awful typing experience for those of us that do a lot of it. I really probably would be forced off MacBooks at that point, the current keyboard is already somewhat uncomfortable for long typing sessions in my experience.

Likely not gonna see this new MacBook Pro until June 2018. Apple probably won't release anything but the Air Power wireless charger on March 16th to steal away some attention from Samsung.

I could see them doing an early update on the 13 inch and lower models but I've not seen any hint of the 6 core chips for the 15". I think Dell was saying like May or June IIRC

The problem of course being Intel is so dysfunctional these days much longer delays could occur

A sort of legacy „MacBook SE“ with the pre-2015 chassis and design but updated internals while continuing the 12“ MB and 13“, 15“ MBP lines as they are... now that would be an interesting idea. Most likely not gonna happen but it would be the perfect answer to those who insist on the current MBPs being less useful because of missing ports, the keyboard, Touch Bar etc. The MBs and MBPs would still be where the magic happens and where all the new innovations and hot specs come in that Apple‘s working on, the MB SE would just be an option for those who don‘t care about that and want more ports, older/heavier design and a less-flat keyboard at the price of not getting the hottest, shiniest and fastest.

With the amount of leaks and rumors about Intel's 28W quad-core Coffee Lake chips with the Iris Plus 650 as well as Intel's 45W H-series six-core chips, it can't be long until Intel announces them. The chips should be available very soon after they're announced, so seems like we might see the new models anytime now.
