Who's with me?

Hopefully we'll see:
- Coffee Lake
- 32 GB of DDR4 RAM
- Battery improvements
- Touch Bar improvements

Possible release dates:
- March 2018
- WWDC 2018

- 3TB SSD option (hopefully)

March is extremely optimistic, but Apple should bring the MacBook Pros up to Jan-Mar releases if processors are out in August the year before. I bet they arrive around WWDC, tho.

Wow these are some impressive scores. Some people have been saying that increasing the cores would mean decreasing the clock speed of the individual cores, so I‘m very pleased to see that even single-core performance seems to be a noticeable step-up compared to the 7th gen. And these multicore scores... impressive. Makes me very glad that I‘ve held off with a purchase thus far. :apple::)

Can anyone who‘s more knowledgeable than me confirm that these are the chips we‘re likely to see in the new 15“ MBPs? Their TDP and all looks right to me from what people have been posting before but I‘m no expert.
These chips are exactly what the 15 inch MBP will be getting. I’m curious if this is the highest end model though or what will come standard.

While agree we need a $2000 entry level 15” it is going to reliastically have
*i7 qaudcore, reserving 6 core for the higher end models
*16gb ram
*256 ssd
*no TB
If they indeed release a no-TB entry level 15“, then it‘s going to be interesting how that affects pricing (and what it will look like spec-wise).

Is it going to be 200-300€ off and leave the TB-models unaffected price-wise? Will it follow the trend of the current 13“ non-TB of only having two USB-C ports and lower specs?

For example I could imagine that Apple releases and entry-level 15“ for ~300€ off but with only quad core chips (so it would be similar performance-wise to the 2017 15“ models) whereas all the TB-models would get hexa cores and would remain at their current price points; that way, they would follow the pattern of the 13“ tb- and non-TB models. But of course it‘s only speculation.

On another note I‘d love to see the TB make its way to the 12“ MB and to the Magic Keyboard! As long as it‘s optional it would be a great addition.

NOOO! Kill it with fire!
That‘s why I was careful to say that it should be optional on those ;) Because I knew that some people are gonna be strictly against it.

But really, where would be the harm if it was an optional upgrade across the board (MBPs, MBs and desktop Macs). Some people hate it, some people find it a great addition to their workflow, and most people are somewhere inbetween these two extremes and find it mildly useful and superior to function keys but only by a small margin.

Why not give people the choice on every single Mac (including desktop Macs, with a higher-priced Magic Keyboard that sells parallel to the existing one). Those who hate it could then happily ignore it and those who consider it a step-up from the function keys and worth the price tag would have the option to get it on each of their machines.

Works for me

Well... the Touch Bar sure is controversial. The thing is...
Either it has to be on ALL devices... or on none. By making it optional it will never reach its full potential simply by seeing such limited adoption.
Since there is enough space... they should simply reintroduce the F-Keys and put the Touch Bar on top of it.
Best of both worlds. Especially since you can KEEP brightness, and Volume, and Mission Control, etc. available at ALL TIMES. While offering App-specific controls ALSO at ALL TIMES.

Everything else is just sacrificing things one way or another.

I would be fine with this. I think that, like myself, many people are not so much against the touchbar as they are against the removal of the escape and function keys.

If you try to order any customized 13-inch with TouchBar, you no longer have the option to pay for expedited shipping. Free shipping will deliver the week of March 13. A customized 13-inch without TouchBar can still be ordered with expedited shipping for delivery a week sooner. Customized iMacs also no longer have expedited shipping available. Maybe Apple is planning to release some new Macs that week.

Thats pretty normal times (11 days for a BTO) other than the no expedited shipping for the TB... Usually the times will slip back much further than that before a release. When they hit 3 weeks, wake me..

I tried touchbar in Apple store. I really liked touchbar. I don’t use function keys much, once in a blue moon except esc key. Apple should improve currrent butterfly keyboard and add esc key..that would impress many people. I do lot of documentation and when can tried word and excel I really liked touch bar. It definitely will improve my workflow.

Just fix the keyboard.
Give it travel so people actually enjoy using your product.

To re-do or correct an input you've just performed is the most frustrating experience, next to a complete lockup of the system.

Looking back to the 2015 lineup, the igpu only model (that is still the base 15” offering) was $1,999 while the dGPU model was $2,499 (albeit with 512gb storage) so in effect they’ve raised the price to $2,799 for the upper base model, and introduced an intermediate model, or a lesser dGPU model at about what they were charging for the 2015 upgraded model (the sacrifice being you only get the 256gb storage). Moving forward, I guess it depends on which direction they go for replacing the lingering 2015 model - 28W chip with iris plus, or 45W quad chip with lower end gpu (like a Radeon 530?) as Intel don’t offer a direct replacement for the 4770HQ with iris pro graphics.

They have had loads of time to be working on it and more money that god - why would they not have it fixed for next release ?!!

They didn't fix the 2017 model when they knew the 2016 was broken. Also machining/tooling/automation take a long time to change. These factories are setup to run for years, not 6 months.

KGI: Apple to release more affordable 13-inch MacBook Air in Q2...

Something is moving....IMHO that is the new NTB 13" mistaken for the "New Air".

A New Air laptop line makes no sense given the current MB...

Let's say that KGI was not mistaken.
The latest MacBook Air still uses the 5th generation of Intel.
By upgrading it from i5-5350U to one of the i5-8*U, Apple will double the number of cores, and more than double the performance, while keeping the same size, power, and price.
The new processors are here since September, so there is no reason for avoiding this upgrade.
On the other hand, Apple don't want to use these processors for MBP 13", because of the GPU, and prefers to wait for the next processors in the U-series of the 8th generation (like i7-8559U).
So there is a possibility that we'll have new MBA 13" soon (March 16?) with 4-cores, while MBP 13" will remain with 2-cores till WWDC at June. Or in other words, 3 months that the performance of MBA will beat the MBP's performance...

Of course, there are other possibilities too.
For example, maybe KGI was mistaken, as you wrote.
Or that the new MBPs will be released before June.
