The new MB would be probably using Cannon Lake CPUs, which will take some more time...
Again, it's not my point;
What I tried to say was that it would not be a surprise to see separated announcements of MBP13 and MBP15, and that Apple already did such separations.
If a new 13" is ready, it will be released soon, even if there is a delay with the 15".

I realised that, sorry for added confusion :) Just wanted to comment on the MB before people start quoting out of context.

We are really going to need more info on what Apple is planning long term, but of course they won’t tell us anything like that at all.
No doubt, everyone is jumping to conclusions (including myself), but I doubt we'll see much rebuttal or confirmation from apple in 2018. At least if they play off the script from 2005/2006. We may very well get notice of some sort of transition next year, because if they confirm the rumors today, that may impact people's buying decisions for the next year.

It certainly has started affect my buying decision. Gonna care my 2015 MBP 13 and see how this plays out. Will probably just pick up a Surface Book 3 or 4 to carry me through.

As noted, I may be more motivated to get a 2018 MBP. My 2012 rMBP is getting repaired as we speak and I think I'll be set up for the near future (fingers crossed)

Would be good to have a reliable timeline on the change of architecture rumour, even though I know that's not possible. If I upgrade this year and a switch happens in 2020 and no further OS updates are released for it then the machine will still be usable for a couple of years after that, so overall still worthwhile. But if it were to happen in 2019 I'd be more wary of buying this year.

The architecture change is definitely a risk for me. As well as a few big-name packages I use specialist software that's less likely to be ported, especially if moving to an iOS-like closed, curated environment. I switched from Linux because the Mac gave me a bash shell plus Office without the pain of dual-booting (for the occasions when LibreOffice wasn't quite compatible enough) and was a little less work to maintain, so for me was a bit best of both worlds. But if I lose any compatability then I'll be off.

People seem quick to assume that a change of architecture will lead to a locked down OS, but noone is able to provide a convincing reason why Apple would actually do this. indeed, it that was an objective they could have done it already with the existing architecture.

I am certainly not put off getting a 2019 MBP (or whenever 32GB finally arrives).

Very interesting to see that there might be a 6 core MacBook Pro this year! not everyone will need that much power but it would be great for those that do and maybe there will be a quad core for the 13" MacBook Pro.

"The Core i9 would also address one common complaint of MacBook Pro owners: that RAM is limited to 16GB. This is because current-generation processors are limited to LPDDR3 RAM, and using desktop RAM instead would draw too much power. The new chip supports 32GB of mobile RAM."

Gosh - to be pleasantly surprised some time soon? I hate to get my hopes up, but wouldn't that be something (for a change)...

Almost certainly not. Cannon Lake is not out yet, coffee lake just released. Gaming laptops already released, Dell XPS and the like expected any day. No way can Apple ignore that for more than 3 months. And while I know intel project cannon lake chips released this year, I highly doubt this because 1) they just released coffe lake and why cannablise your own sales and 2) intel say alot of **** they don't follow through on, or else 'ship in low volumes'...aka not enough to mean anything.

Everything got totally confused again, as expected. I was talking about the rumoured MacBook, not MacBook Pro. The Cannonlake chips will be the low-powered dual-core variant for starters which would be optimal for the 13" MB/MBA whatever it is called.

Ah right sorry I misunderstood your post so!

Intel just announced the chips with other companies unveiling laptops in the coming weeks...I sure hope Apple wouldn’t wait till October to give us better chips available today.

I was only saying October as the latest because that’s when Apple have held Mac events in the past, however WWDC last year saw the last update spec wise for the Mac so that may happen again this year

OR it may be possible that if they only have spec updates to roll out we could see them this month it all depends if they have anything to show off at WWDC Mac wise this year.

Now that sounds good!

Unfortunately, I can’t find any info on that. It seems it is only ddr4 and no low voltage...

Dell's and Asus' new gaming notebooks with these new chips will start shipping very soon, so it seems like Intel is already well into the production cycle.

Seems like an April release of the MacBook Pro is possible now. I don't see any reason why they would wait until WWDC if all the chips are available now. I mean, they most probably won't do anything besides swapping CPUs anyway.
