I'd actually also like the old MBP and PowerBook G4 keyboard back... you know... the silver... non-chiclet one.

I first had a MacBook in 2006... and really liked the chiclet keyboard. But then moved to the last non-unibody MBP with it's silver keys. I thought I would hate it, but actually it was really really good. I'd go as far as to say that this was the best notebook keyboard ever.

What is ergonomic about 1980s style dice size keys? 3 choices of keys isn't very many choices. Especially since 1 or 2 of them click so loud they are unusable. There just are not better keyboards than the apple keyboard. No other keyboard has 0.032" key pressing distance. If there are I would like to know.
I don't care even if it's 0.01" key pressing distance. I care is it reliable or is it not. They are obviously not, since there are posts and reviews everywhere from guys returning their laptops MULTIPLE times because of keyboard issues

And there’s a reason for that... hint: it’s that shallow becaus they wanted to make the machine thinner, not because they designed a thin keyboard and built the machine around it...

I'm not sure about the pressing distance on the new macbooks, that might even be less than 0.032". The apple magic keyboard where they have no reason to make it thin at all costs, has a 0.032" pressing distance. It improved my typing speed and now it feels really mushy and its like I'm drunk typing on a windows mechanical keyboard. All these mechanical keyboard nerds and they can't come close to the apple magic keyboard. I bought a few of these switches to consider them, but the tolerances are so low you can wobble the key a little bit in any direction besides up and down. Everybody makes junk keyboards but apple. Maybe the real issue is that nobody will pay more than $100 for the most important part of the computer, the part you touch.

What is it with people bitching about the new keyboards? Other than being too loud they're much better feeling and looking than old clunky ones. Some people are stuck in typewriter times of past decades. Move on finally. Soon the keyboard area will become touchscreen too.

Specs of dust causing keyboard failures isn't "bitching", it's pointing out an obvious design flaw.

I do strongly NOT mean to use an external keyboard... I even LAUGH at all my coworkers who literally HAVE TO use external mice with their notebooks all the time because the trackpads are so crappy.

What I mean is:
Old MBP had good keyboard with a lot of travel, but were a bit... unstable.
New MB and MBP have unreliable keyboards with a new mechanism and almost no travel.
The current external keyboards have something of both. A little less travel than the old MBP, but more than the new one. They are reliable. And they are more stable. So why not use a keyboard LIKE this IN the new MBP.

The MacBook trackpad is why I could never go to a PC laptop.. that thing is too amazing

We've all stopped using MBP's, as soon as MacOS was able to be run reliably on ThinkPads and ZBooks. You know, laptops with actual keyboards which are used for doing actual work, not professional Facebook.
Do you know of any pc laptop that outperforms the current top of the line 15" mbp in all aspects that will reliably run el capitan / Sierra ? And by outperform, I also mean in terms of having just as good or better audio latency, ssd speed, ram speed, low noise with high cpu load, as good or better battery life, as many or more as fast ports etc. ?? I genuinely wanna hear if there are any alternatives out there in the pc world, where I could reliably run live music in osx on a pc hackintosh. I'm waiting on the 2018 15" MBP though...(and if that isn't adequate for my needs, I will go with a 2015 15" MBP top spec'ed, or jump up to a Mac Pro..)

None!

Depends what your needs are. A top of the line Xeon ZBook is going to trash an MBP performance wise, but as a result, it's not going to have great battery life as it's a mobile workstation, so what do you expect. RAM requirements are another one, if you need more than 16GB RAM in a laptop or need an NVidia Quadro card, well then there's no Apple laptop that'll do what you want, so your only option is to run a P series or ZBook if you need MacOS. Same if you want a 17" display, or want a keyboard that's reliable.

It's all about priorities, there's no magic silver bullet. You want more speed, you get less battery time. You want a bigger display? You're going to have to lug around more weight.

Wait... what? Are the ZBooks feasible Hackintosh Notebooks?

The HP pro line is the only line that's currently 100% stable and compatible in the laptop world. you can hackintosh others, but the HP pro line is the only one I'd trust. You mileage may vary, I mean yes you can hackintosh a wide variety of other laptops, but some people are happy to play with kext files for 10 minutes every time they reboot... o_O

The Lenovo P series are also meant to be quite reliable but I've never used one (running OS X) - The reason why these mobile workstations have had so much driver development to get them so stable is because companies have a business case for these specific high-end hardware configs, nobody would bother with consumer grade gear because... just buy Apple

None. This is the way Apple build thei products. To be the best overall product

Because if you want a Mac, there's not much of a choice . . .

Choice 1: Wait
Choice 2: Refurb
Choice 3: Get something else.

Many people want Mac but will make do with Windows if they have to. I'm in that category myself. When hex-core chips are on the market I'll be upgrading. If Apple continue on their current track I won't be upgrading to another Mac.

Any would if the MBP space bar malfunctions due to dust.

Lets keep our fingers crossed. I wonder how long it will take to know for sure.

Probably not until they are announced, unfortunately. I suppose we might get leaks that hint at a keyboard redesign. Even once confirmed, until they are out in the real world and people have used them for a while in "challenging" environments, we won't know for sure whether the keyboard is significantly more reliable.

I'm just hoping my 2012 rMBP can hang on that long. One of the fans is slowly dying (it has a horrible rattling sound some of the time) and my laptop has developed a nasty habit of having the WindowServer process crash on me, which crashes all GUI applications and puts me back at what looks like a login screen.

I actually have that too... being thrown back to the login window. I have the feeling it has nothing to do with your computer's hardware... but rather is a bug in High Sierra.
