But AMD doesn't have a highend VEGA for laptops yet? Only the integrated VEGA version I thought...

And Intel doesn't have any new CPUs yet as well. We will still get them though ;) And as Poki mentioned above, dedicated mobile Vega has been most likely shipping to partners for some time now, just not in an released product.

I'm interested in those 45W 6-core Xeons, but as far as I know Xeons don't have integrated gpus thus Apple likely won't use them in MBPs but it would be cool if they managed to deliver a MBP with new Xeons and Vega. It would be a perfect mobile workstation for me (not considering outdated 16 gigs of ram).

That would be ideal, but the cost of memory right now is just... bad. Both SSD's and memory is a lot more than it was a year ago. I can only imagine what Apple will charge for a MBP 15" / 6 Core | 12 Thread / 32GB Memory / 512GB variant. I do agree though, the next MBP 15" should come with a 6 Core | 12 thread Coffe Lake variant and it should come with 32GB of memory, but we all know its going to come with 16GB by default and 32GB will be a incredibly expensive option. They'd have to use two low voltage 16GB DIMM's, so you know its going to be very expensive.

Reasons such as this are why I'm giving serious thought to buying something like an Alienware desktop for performance, sticking linux on it and getting a 13" quad-core MPB as new laptop whenever they become avaialable

Probably not enough space at the logic board for that. Unless they can reduce the CPU/GPU package somehow (e.g. by using Intel's G series packages, but that would most likely mean no Coffee Lake).

32GB Ram would be great but only if Intel's CPU finally support it at low power consumption. 16GB is good enough though and I'm a pro user.

More important is a really good GPU that finally gives some kickass performance on the MBP and doesn't have all the issues that the new MBP's have with strange graphics/ UI artefacts and errors. Hope they can fix that.

If the new Vega GPU is really good then the MBP's can finally be a great gaming machine too. My gut feeling says yes.

Its still going to a 30-40W GPU... So performance levels of 1050 Ti at best. If you hope for an improvement GPU, the best scenario would be a Intel's G series chip since it can give more power to the GPU when needed.

We will see what gives once new MBP's announced. But the examples (games) on the 1050 Ti that I've seen are pretty good to me. I don't need the very latest and most high-end in GPU's and for laptops it's not even possible unless using external GPU.

The 65W Kaby Lake G chips are only slightly faster than a GTX 1050 Ti. That's certainly nothing a new 35W Vega-based GPU couldn't do I think.

They need to find someway to get a 32GB machine even if it means a thicker case. Absurd when the iMac can go to 128GB. I can still remember the furore when the iMac got the G5 before the Powerbook (which of course it never did).

Don't you get... Intel's current CPU architecture does not really support 32GB for mobile. Unless you cram desktop grade ram into a laptop.

But sorry no I don't want Apple laptops to look like this...

I'm a pro user doing video editing and 3D graphics, Photoshop, etc and i don't know why people constantly whine about not having more ram. Not saying 32gb or more isn't nice but i have absolutely no problems working with 16gb.
