But I'm afraid I can't get CZ keyboard in Austria?! I know it's sounds silly, but I'm kind of use to have CZ keyboard. Well I might get iMac 27 + the future cheaper 13" MB... for the same price as the 32GB / 1TB SSD :D

But thank you, I will check it anyways!
You can get the CTO English keyboard (international) and pick-up it in Vienna :). It should be the same as the Czech one, just without our labels such as ř letter. :D Check it here, I could miss some diference(s) .https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201794

Yeah how about 4k ??

But no I want for only two things:
1. A non-touch bar hex core option
2. Non-insane prices

Gotta love these ridiculous comments... non-insane prices. So then I assume you said the same thing last year, oh and the year before that?

2018 base 15” - $2,399
2017 base 15” - $2,399
2016 base 15” - $2,399

The $6,700 version is not the only option... and I really wonder what people think a laptop with a FOUR TERABYTE SSD is going to cost, they’re still really pricey, as others have noted time and again - guess what, their drives are better than that ADATA budget drive you got from Newegg.

People are just never happy, first no professional could possibly get work done with ONLY 16 gb of ram, never mind that it’s been fine all along, and now when we get the option people are whining that it doesn’t cost the same as the old options, get a grip.

Oh, and yeah non-TB option would be fine... I love it for touchID but that’s about all I use mine for

Gotta love when Americans assume we all pay the same prices they do...
. I'm in Europe. Prices have gone up considerable in recent years. I haven't bought one since 2014 because of that. Some calcualtions in another post earlier - the equivlent spec 15" 2018 model is 14% more expensive then the one i'm typing on from 2014. European prices are WAAAYYY out of whack - both compared to the price of macs previously and to the competition. A MBP with spec I want is 87% more expensive then an equivalent Dell.

But to be honest its more than that. The MBP with spec I want would be €4,000. Its just not worth that to me. While I would prefer a Mac, I'd feel alot safer carrying around a €2,200 Dell, than a €4,000 MBP. I travel alot, sometime to places I don't know. I would genuinely not be comfortable going some places with hardware that expensive on show.

And by the way - it seems Apple now agree that 16GB is not enough

2020 or 2021 for me. I'm on a 5 year cycle.
Might be what I end up doing, just waiting longer to cancel out the extra cost. Of course the psychological aspect of that is ‘I have to be more careful with this machine as it has to last me 4 years, and it’s a hell of a lot more money than usual to replace it if something does happen’. Which gets back to the whole babying it thing that made me reluctant to use the butterfly keyboard...

I have always been a little jealous of the major markets having access to refurbished machines. Not an option in Denmark, and I am not really sure how it would work buying a refurb elsewhere and have it shipped. and I even prefer the international English keyboard over the native danish keyboard so layout would be a non issue for me.
I didn’t know refurbished Apple products weren’t available in certain markets, that really would be a bummer.

The availability of refurbished products can make or break whether or not people can afford these machines. As awesome as they are (IMO, of course not everyone thinks they’re awesome) a lot of people don’t, or at least can’t justify, spending the extra cash on brand new Apple products. If they didn’t have refurbished products I’d have had to settle for a machine that really didn’t suit my needs.

I’m sure there are legal reasons they can’t sell refurbished in your region, but hey, maybe one day that’ll change! We can dream of Apple lowering prices on their new products, but we all know where that conversation goes, haha.:(

I'm living on my June 2013 Air. It's been struggling recently and the battery is long past overdue for a replacement. Was hoping to get a MBP but I don't know if these ones are worth it.

I might spend a day seriously cleaning up everything on the drive and might look into a battery replacement to get another year out of it.

Yuck to no quad core non TB.
If you aren’t feeling the new ones maybe you should look for a used one that is a few years older. I just got a 2017 for quite a bit cheaper, and if you are worried about keyboard issues you could find a 2014/2015 MBP used for significantly less than 1000 and enjoy that for a while until the right model comes out.

I guess it is due to the size of my country, there are around 6.5 million living in Denmark, so the market is not that big. Other nordic countries does not have refurb store, around same population.

I just counted my self lucky that I still had student discount when buying my MBP.

I do not think it is legal reasons since companies can sell floor models and such as long as it is told and you get the same warranty. I suspect that the few machines which end up as refurb might be sold to companies or used for spare parts.

How about:

2012 base rMBP 15" w/16GB - $2400 - 256GB SSD / 16GB RAM / Discrete graphics

Funny how the memory/storage included has not increased in 6 years. I guarantee that component costs are not the same as they were in mid-2012.

LOL had to come back to see how many folks are having fits over the press release. Oh yea, can't forget the obligatory...in for year xxxx thread!

I'm about the same. I'm currently running a 2014 Air so I think jumping into a 2018 13" MBP will be night and day difference. I really just want to get something powerful with a retina screen so that's my primary motivation for upgrading.

I’d care to argue that Apple designs a longer lasting machine. After 6 years can you say that that XPS will still be running as fast as that equilavently specced MBP? You pay the extra for longer longevity. You also don’t have to buy a yearly subscription for malware protection, and deal with buggy Windows and bloatware

My current 2013 MBP is now 5 years old and running nearly as well as when it was brand new. I hope I’ll get another 5 years out of it, but when I purchased the MBP I was expecting to need to replace it after ~3 years. The only computer I’ve had that lasted longer was my G4 tower that made it 11 years before it was retired.

I’d agree with you and I think a lot of people upgrade on the industry standard of 3-5 years, which does make it harder to justify the extra cost on a MacBook Pro. And since I last owned a personal windows machine (about 3 years ago), bloatware may well not be as bad as it used to be.

My last windows was one I bought in 2009 in Jan and I got my first Mac in 2015, the early 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch. I can't ever see myself going back to windows. I got dad a desktop that had 8.1 on it, and its god awful operating system. I got the higher end MacBook Pro and upgraded the storage to 512 and dont regret it. I hope to hold onto this for at least 6 years. Now that graduate school is done, I wont have as advanced needs for it, so I hope to get longer time out of it. More than likely, my next Mac will be a desktop, so hopefully I get more price wise.

for all those who want the touch bar removed, this is not going to happen, in fact the whole keyboard will be replaced with a massive touch bar in few years.

I guess it's not that I'm terribly upset that they're forcing me to get the touch bar (well, actually I am) but that it's sooooo much more expensive.

£1,699 for the Spectre X360, £1,899 for the XPS, £2699 for the MacBook Pro equivalently specced... is MacOS (as a personal indulgence) really worth £800-£1,000 to me?

I was just posting this on the other thread. The X360 isn't really comparable because the spec are outdated. but the XPS 15 are 80% of the same. And Apple used to cost only £300 - £400 more. You still paid it for slightly better build and macOS. Now the £800 become a little excessive, especially if you are buying it for personal use.

I.e, We are basically paying £300 - 400 for the touch bar, and that super thin, custom made crappy keyboard as well. And personally I don't think it is worth it.

Yeah, the 2015 pro was pretty well a no brainer starting at £1,599 if you didn’t need a dGPU - that was little more than what the well-built thin and light alternatives were offering, albeit they did have GPUs.

The XPS isn’t an exact like for like comparison as it uses the G series quad core with AMD GPU - but it’s honesly good enough for my use and literally £1,000 cheaper!

I’m hoping as they have re-focused the pros on performance at any price, they might be planning on introducing a cheaper 15” MacBook at some point, though they might just double down on “only video editors need 15” screens”.

The question you should be asking to justify a $6,700 or $2,399 computer is how long it would take to make that money back. If you are not gonna be able to make back that money, you probably should let that money stay in your bank account and or buy something that fits in your budget.

The folks Apple used to demo the new MBP's are not your average YouTube/FaceBook/Macrumor users who just like have something powerful. They are Scientist, Musicians, Film Directors, Graphic Artists.

I remember the entry level 15 inch MacBook Pro without discrete GPU selling for 1,700 back in 2011. When I decided to buy a Mac, that was gonna be my purchase. With the introduction of the retina model back in 2012, they increased the price and stuck there ever since. Although, if I remember right, some retain MBP 15 entry models were 2,200.
