If you're in NYC and hoping to score an iPhone X, best place is SoHo Apple Store or Grand Central Terminal. 5th Avenue will suck, the others won't have the best stock. Good luck.
SoHo is one of the worst ones actually. I use to work there. I do agree with Grand Central being a good option and also the UES store.

People wouldn't do it for food.

I think they would, you'd get hungry waiting that long.

Make as many friends as you can ahead of you, and be like Homer, where u keep cutting ahead till you become the first in line.

Ok I saw Grand Central terminal is from 530am-2am. Has anyone here ever lined up at this location ??? What would the process be ??? I would’ve been there at 10pm but that seems to not be an option.
You line up outside 42st main door of grand central I believe. I did asked the Apple employee. After 5.30am they will bring you guys inside around the north pass way.

Seriously? Camp in line? Unbelievable.

It's not really that 'unbelievable'. It's just you don't see the appeal in doing it. But for those who do this, obviously have a passion for the majority and there is nothing wrong with that.

I'd wait in line for a week for a new Mac mini or Mac Pro.

Not wasting my time on iPhone face scan edition.

I have a preorder for the iPhone upgrade programme but my X won’t arrive at the store until 2nd December so plan on queuing to get hold of one on launch day. Means I’ve already preordered will this cause me any trouble when I try to upgrade instore on the 3rd? Do I need to cancel my preorder now or should I be fine? Thanks to anyone who replies ☺️
Had exactly your situation with my 6s. for some reason I asked for gold color (stupid idea ) but delivery was painfully far far far away. By "accident" I stepped into ATT store on Michigan ave and after trying to make fun by asking - can I have new iPhone - very wide smile on the lady's face replied me - color and size please?!
I was in shock :p but it took them about 45 minutes to cancel my previously placed online order to get me eligible to get upgrade again. So, I walked into the store around 7:15 pm, store closing at 8 pm .... Happy me, left this amazing store at ~8:30 pm with shiny gold (!) iPhone 6s.
So, short answer - with ATT - yes they can cancel your online order. But I am not sure Apple store can do this with order placed via carrier's web site.

I will most likely line up somewhere in LA. Not sure where, but I want that phone bad. Apple screwed up and cancelled my initial order so I have a mid dec delivery date. I'd rather not wait. I used to line up for COD releases when they were worth the trouble and before digital download.

I live in Naperville, IL but kind of want to make an event and go up to Milwaukee for the day. Does anyone from there have any idea on typical leghth of lines at a local Apple Store Mayfair?

Another agreement on Grand Central. I wonder if 5th will continue to be even more efficient in this smaller store (had no problems getting exactly what I wanted both times recently; however neither aligned with an iPhone launch.)

Not familiar with NYC but do the lines offer some kinda of protection from the streets? (Barriers) Assuming the stores are located on busy streets. Seems like a bad idea to have lots of people lined up over night after today's tragic event in NYC.

I've seen barriers/pylons for the 7+ last year in SoHo. I can't speak for the other places. SoHo will have a lot of Chinese people lining up to buy for the grey market, so try to get ahead of them if you can. Usually they are senior citizens who don't look that interested in the phone, but they hope to get some easy cash by helping the scalpers.

I was thinking the Apple Store in the Upper West Side. So the Grand Central Store is a better bet ??? If so, what’s the process in terms of lining up there ??? I would arrive around 10pm Thursday night.

I don't know know anything about camping, but it would make sense to do it. I remember seeing people camping at the SoHo location last year.

SoHo and Grand Central will have the most stock, aside from 5th Avenue. But 5th avenue is under construction, and there will be press, and so on. UES won't have the same allotment as SoHo, GCT, 5th ave.

OLA!! HA! That's too funny. For those who don't know, Ola Englund is a shred metal guitarist from the band Feared. He has a pretty good YouTube channel, too.

Waiting in line for some piece of technology has got to be the most pathetic and disgusting thing a human being can do. Real first world problem, that you must be one of the first people to get a new phone. While in other parts of the world, people wait in line for food, and would look at people waiting for a cellphone as bat **** crazy with their priorities way out of whack.

The human race is doomed

I could understated pre ordering the phone online, and then having the phone delivered via the mail.

I had opened the App Store App on both iPhone and iPad, as well as the Apple Store on my Mac.

I was able to order on the iPhone with delivery 11/3 after one minute. On the Mac, the page showed up 11 minutes later, when delivery was already 2/3 weeks. Fastest preorder method was definitely the App Store App... you’ve preordered it wrong ;)
I also had multiple devices/browsers/app open and ready for the pre-order. Apple’s website and the app did not become available until 3:10 am est. many people have reported experiencing this and other problems with the app and website.

Hi guys from outside the Apple store in NYC. I want to purchase an additional XPhone for my mom.
