I purchased at 12:01 with a 11-3 delivery, but my question is why can’t Apple just post on the front door how many units they have of each a week before launch? Are they not getting stock until the day before? That would save a lot of people wasted time and effort.

The iPhone X rollout reminds me of these classic Seinfeld episodes.

NO SOUP FOR YOU! But in this case, I don't even want it!

Touch ID back in 1 year. HO HO HO! :D

Touch ID is never coming back. NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!

Preorder for launch wasn't even hard to get. Getting the 7 plus in jet black was way harder than any version of the X. Props to everyone who is waiting overnight, but you could have preordered easily and gotten it on launch.
Pre-orders are still a little bit of luck of the draw. I got the 6s and 7 right away but the 2-week window for the X. As I recall they didn’t pre-sell the 5 or 6 but both times I managed to get to an Apple Store just as they got shipments.

I’m not planning to camp out in the cold. I can wait the extra 2 weeks. I didn’t get the 4S for about a month after it went on sale.

Waiting in line for some piece of technology has got to be the most pathetic and disgusting thing a human being can do. Real first world problem, that you must be one of the first people to get a new phone. While in other parts of the world, people wait in line for food, and would look at people waiting for a cellphone as bat **** crazy with their priorities way out of whack.

The human race is doomed

I could understated pre ordering the phone online, and then having the phone delivered via the mail.
Wow. Judgmental much? Live and let live. Don't you worry your pretty little mind over what others do with their free time. I personally WOULD NEVER wait in line for absolutely anything, but would never condemn those who do. From my understanding its all about the experience of waiting in line and getting something they are genuinely excited for instead of just "being the first to get it". Btw I'm not as triggered by your racist profile picture as you are about people waiting in line for an iPhone ;)

Except if you were among those for whom the online store only went up 10 min late. At that point the (silver 256GB) X was already 2-3 weeks.:(
Correct. I had the same issue store came on 10 minutes late get ready to put credit card info in then store would go down. Unknown error = start all over. Can’t connect with carrier = start all over.
So lots of reasons that people just didn’t preorder early and therefore are going to sit in a line. Mine comes in in early December that was the best I could do and it took nearly a hour and I consider myself lucky with that.

It's not really that 'unbelievable'. It's just you don't see the appeal in doing it. But for those who do this, obviously have a passion for the majority and there is nothing wrong with that.
A lot of people get together just for the fun of it. Spend time together share laughs while they are hoping to get an iPhone. Good for them having a good time with their friends. Hopefully they get one.

I’ve been in Apple Stores on launch days. Never again! It’s full of excitable children. My life and my time is way too important to me to have to queue for a phone, never mind camp outside. Really is this even a thing this day and age of the internet connected world? I’m happy to wait until it’s brought directly to my door thanks very much!

I stood in line for an iPhone 6 plus. Was my first time and wasn't there overnight, just came in 6am. Line was big, but turned out to be not bad. Met a lot of people, got a few good work contracts and overall had fun playing games while waiting. We had a few people do starbucks runs, and overall was kind of fun in the end.

I know my experience is just that, MY experience. Needless to say, I'll never do it again for the exact reason you stated, but can't say it was all that bad.

In the end we all bought phones then traded them so everyone got what they wanted depending where they were in line.

Might be different now...but I don't judge those that decide to stay in line.

People WOULD do it for food and have done it for food in the past.

Not me, even when I am homeless my time is extremely valuable and I pre-order my bread from the bread line.

I could never lower myself to this waiting in line for 12-24 hours+ nonsense. Happy to wait until 27th Nov-4th Dec for my iPhone X delivery.

Back in my early 20's, when camping out on Black Friday was a way of life, Line Swelling was the bane of my frozen, tired existence. I lost at least two TV's and an Xbox to *******s charging the line as soon as the doors opened, and god forbid the store staff a security guard or two to prevent just that. Things finally improved when stores started taking names or handing out tickets an hour to two before the doors opened that were required to actually pick up the limited stock items, so Line Swell became less of an issue. It also cut back on the stampede once those doors opened, as people were less panicked to get inside if they were holding a ticket because they knew they were already guaranteed that item they'd been waiting all night for.

Excitable children is fine, scalpers that drag children around so they can get multiple devices.. that's the most despicable sight.

No self respecting geek on a forum waits in line. We are too busy running benchmarks to make charts about performance between the 8 and 8 plus cameras to stand in line.

Even a mod was being snobby saying unboxing videos are a waste of time in another thread. It's somewhat amusing to watch

During the online pre-order the limit was 2 phones per person, is that the case in person on launch day, or is it 1 per person?

I pre-ordered with T•Mobile JUMP! -- I just out-of-the-blue called T•Mobile one day and asked about upgrading since I was a Jump subscriber -- and it just so happened they'd just opened pre-orders that day. My estimated time is Nov 10-Dec 1. Not too shabby (knocks on wood)!

I'll argue and even say I made money since I got a hold of some really nice contracts. But mostly, I do agree with you. Wouldn't do it again. Even 2-3 hours of my time is expensive nowadays. I guess what I was saying is I don't judge those that do stand in line. On a side-note I am getting my X on Friday :) But that's because I normally work until about 3am.

Put your money where your mouth is: Get off the internet and fly over there to help them if you're so noble. Once we see your good deed we'll follow.
