Do they hand out tickets or anything to people in line? I’d hate to wait in a line only to find out they didn’t have what I wanted.

I’m considering stopping by in the morning just to check it out, since my order is Nov 17-24. Like if I get there an hour early and find out they have the one I want, and can guarantee I’ll get one, I’d wait. But no way I’m waiting overnight or anything.
Yes. They hand out tickets starting an hour or so before the store opens with the exact model you’re getting, by then they’ll have accurate inventory levels of what’s available that morning. Which is also around the time they drop the curtains so it’s fun to peek into the store and see the new phones on display

For the 6 they didn’t hand out tickets until a few hours before open. They gave tickets for the specific model you were requesting.
Hope that answers your question.

Haha food is always great! I really miss camping out. Used to do it with a large group of friends at the same store every year, so I got pretty close to the same group of Apple fans. It was fun. But can be exhausting. Reserve in store is the best option for me, best of both worlds
Sadly I couldn’t get the in store pickup at the one I used to work at (they’re too big and was the first to go) like I did last year, when I did a “reservation” thanks to macforum posters sharing the link... I just waltzed in and found a coworker to check me out 🙂 no wait, which is sad because even those with reservation to pick up has to wait..though they really try to cut it down by giving those with res preference.

It depends on the store. Last year they had a separate section for those who had reservation but tbh they didn’t get in and out either. And those who didn’t have reservation or, later one like yours and is trying their luck for one earlier... well, we made them line up and then we would check them in, see if the one they’d want is available. If it is, they’ll reserve it for you and so you’re guaranteed to get it *if* you stay in that line. How fast that line moves really depends on how fast the specialists are with their current customers. I think this year they’ll be better with serving those with online reservations made already (aka pickup window). But last year we had those who walk in actually wait in line, and get their phone faster then some with window reservations.

TLDR- they make you line up but someone goes down the line to ask what you want and make sure it’s available and reserve it for you so you’re guaranteed it if you stay in line.

Lol how much did you pay said bum? I don't know if I'd trust some random bum to hold my spot, but I'd probably pay a friend or someone to wait for me.

Damn 5th in line at 3am? At the local AT&T store last year there were probably 15 people by midnight. I got there at 5:30 and I was the first.

He actually hung out at a buddies Detail Shop. My buddy gave him random jobs around the shop every day and paid him so I already knew he was loyal.
Anyways, I paid him $35 per day plus brought him food throughout the day.

So even though I pre-ordered and it won’t ship till 17th I’m thinking of waiting in line instead this Friday. Is there any official word anywhere as to when the Apple Stores will open?

I think 1 hour early but make sure at your local apple store.

Well I think this may be the year I line up again, haven’t done it since the original launch.
Wow that’s a long time ago, please keep us posted. Thanks

What if I pre-ordered, have a 17-24 date, and upgraded using the iPhone Upgrade Program?

If I am able to get in the front of a line this Friday, would canceling my online order also cancel the loan? Would I then have to get another hard enquiry and be assigned a new loan?

I guess I’m asking if I try to cancel an order made with iUP would it complicate getting getting a phone in store on launch?

Thanks!

Good question. I read somewhere that your Loan Approval was only good for 72 hrs. I assume that they would run another check but not 100%. Definitely a question to ask Apple ASAP.

Anyone know what time is considered too late for lining up to get the configuration you want?
Can’t really say a specific time... it purely depends on stock and how many people are in line. I can say this, it’s never too early to line up! Now this is coming from a person who lined up 24+ hours to be first in line haha

If you want to be sure you'll get what you want, I'd line up sometime Wednesday evening, depending on the city you live in of course. You might even be able to get away with Thursday morning but with the small amount of stock this year better to be safe then sorry.

Last time I lined up for something was the iPad 2 I think. The 10 people in front of me and the 10 behind me were all Chinese scalpers.

Every 20 min or so, some guy who looked vaguely boss-like would come and yell at them in Chinese.

For the record, I don’t care if these people were Chinese or French or from Cleveland. They were simply loud and obnoxious and had zero regard for anyone around them.

They had chairs and radios playing Chinese music, and once in a while one of them would take a bathroom break while another held their spot.

They smoked and snorted and horked up spit the entire time, all while yelling to each other at the top of their lungs up and down the line.

After about 2 hours of this, I was approached by some random dude who offered me $100 cash for my place in line. I gladly took it and hightailed it outta there.

Have not since, and will not again, stand in line for an Apple product.

Friday? You need to get in line now if you want a prayer at having an XPhone Friday.

Similar story but had a great time during iPad 2 launch in nyc. My line was all fanboys and girls. IPhone 5s the Chinese mafia looking people made lining up no more fun in nyc.

It's been ages since I've been at an Apple store on an iPhone launch day, but they used to close the store to anyone who wasn't there to get an iPhone. Do they still do that?

I'd like to check them out in person before I decide on whether to take delivery of mine on November. I ordered the SG, but the silver looks nice too. It's so hard to decide from pics and videos. I also want to experience the notch and see if it's really the big deal that many say it is.
