True, but they're not the kind of company to always go with the 'cheap' route. They care more about public opinion than to go with the 'cheaper' option.

Also, yeah, they can't **** up now. The white iPhone 4 has GOT to be on time!

Also, total whack-job conspiracy theory: they held back the white iPhone just in case they needed a "hurrah" moment a few weeks after launch. Perhaps they held it back to see how the antenna issue would play out. As Don Draper from Mad Men would say: if you don't like what's being said, change the conversation.

We f&$%ed up... we will replace existing iPhones... we are sorry... ... new white iPhone will be available for pre-order today and shipping next week!! -- BOOM! BRILLIANT! :D

Hopefully pre orders start tomorrow, and the white iphone is released 25th-27th.

That would be ideal. I'm hoping for maybe a Tuesday release with preorders tomorrow. If Japan has them in boxes already, perhaps they're ready to go. Who knows? I'm just counting down the hours until the conference! I've been waiting for this thing for way too long.

Apple store page open, credit card on the desk next to me.

I'm expecting disappointment but hoping for satisfaction.

Final bets guys... any word on the white availability today?

I say YES to a set-in-stone date but will not be available for pre-order or in-store purchase today.

"White iPhone: lot of people are waiting for it, and they’ll start shipping at the end of July in limited quantities."

No date for pre-orders... :(

Didn't really expect pre orders ever, but end of july is frustrating since it means I will be without a phone for a little over a week until it comes out.

Limited quantities?

I wonder what they mean by limited quantities??? Do you guys think it will only be available through Apple or will AT&T, Best Buy, Walmart etc have some by ship date too? By the end of July I would have almost gone 2 months without any iPhone... ouch

They better at least get Best Buy some to fulfill the ones of customers who have held onto their preorder.

I'm buying my sister a white iPhone 4 but I'm broke right now. This is good for me cuz I'm hoping by the time they're up for preorder I'll have enough money. After going through the madness of the iPhone 4 launch (stood in line for 4 hours) I've learned my lesson. Free delivery would be great.

I really hope so. I was #1 on the list at my Best Buy and decided to wait for white when they offered me a black on the 24th. Even if they received only one :p it would save me so much trouble.... ie, preordering and possibly having to camp out.

Nothing even saying there will be pre-orders. Blah! I've checked every day since June 15th. lol.

Eh, maybe. BB arrogantly took those pre orders. For some reason they thought they were special and they'd get White iPhones before the Apple Stores did.

My guess, 60% Apples Stores, 30% AT&T Stores, and the other 10% will trickle to WalMart, BB and RadioShack.

iPhone 4, loophole to trade for white?

I was wondering if this will work. Please provide feedback. So, my plan is to port my number back to t-mobile under a month to month plan which doesn't require a 2 year contract (already have a phone to use). It's obviously still within 30 days since I've switched to at&t for the iphone 4. So, after porting my number back I have to return the black iphone back, for full refund (thanks to no more restocking fee on iphone 4). And then, after the white one is released, I'll go back to the at&t store, or an apple store (wherever I find one) and start over, but this time get the white iphone. Will this be effective? are there any policies that would stop me from doing this?

I thought of the same idea. The only way they can prevent this is if they somehow flag you. I bet many people will try this.

Sweet. I'm probably gonna do it tomorrow or tonight. I don't see any reason they would flag me since I'm still new and will be entitled to the lower price of opening a new account. If it doesn't work out, I'll let you all know otherwise, IT'S A GO!

I'm pretty sure that if you cancel a contract with AT&T, you can't open a new one with them for 30 days. That's how it's like, but if they've changed that, then I don't know. Just call in to make sure.

You don't want to do it that way. Just return it and get the full refund. In 3 days your AT&T line will be eligible to purchase at 2 year price again.

Just remember that your way you will have to pay an activation fee for tmobile and then again for at&t when you switch back. I would just sell your black one and buy a full price white one. Much easier in the long run.
