Someone who works for AT&T sent me a part of the memo that states due to inventory problems that the iPhone 4 White has been delayed to the second half of 2010. When we thought Apple could not disappoint us anymore, here they go again.

4. Inventory problems: Apple has said that it won’t be able to sell the white version of iPhone 4 until the second half of 2010.

If this is true, I'm scared about the press conference tomorrow.

I really don't understand how Apple's production and manufacturing work.

But...

This IS the 2nd half of 2010. Has been since the first of July. :)

Mayhap you meant to say " Second half of July 2010?" If so, yes... that's what they've been saying for weeks now.

July is month seven of the twelve-month year.
Therefore, we are in the second half of 2010 NOW.

You're grasping for straws now... if this news is true, I'm going to be pissed. I could have had a iPhone on launch day and then again about a week ago. This is not gonna go over well if true...

Truthfully, I think they mean more to the end of end of August-early September. I'll be pretty upset if that is the case and swallow my pride and get the black iPhone 4 which would irritate me considering I could've ordered it June 15th at 5:00 AM when I woke up

Nah. I just took it to be a non-news sorta announcement. We already knew it'd be the 2nd half of 2010. We're already IN the 2nd half of 2010.

Besides, I've always thought it'd be August-September. My reason? The manager of my local Apple store extended my 1-year warranty through the end of September when I came in to complain about a sporadic issue with my 3GS. He did that only AFTER I told him that I was holding out for a white iPhone. Sure, he probably doesn't know anything specific, but I'll bet they do give those guys a rough estimate of when to expect stuff.

Me? I'd like one now, please. :)

What on Earth could cause such a delay?

The second half of 2010 started on July 1st, two weeks ago.

Interesting news though since I'd talked to an AT&T in-store employee last week and she claimed "end of summer" but gave nothing to support that claim with.

*shrug* It'll be when it'll be. Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it. :)

Ask them to send you the memo. Then we'll have proof.

Meh I don't believe anything unless it comes from Apple. I don't think they will further delay the white iPhone 4... I hope they clear the air tomorrow!!

This is breaking news!!!

Wait, now that I think about it... I've known this for over a year now. This post deserves a picture of a bunny with a pancake on it's head.

I'm waiting for my friend to get back to me and then if he can supply me with the memo without getting fired, I'll post it.

Meanwhile, if they have to replace all these iPhone 4's then I really do a foresee a delay in the white iPhone 4 unless they've been producing fully functioning units. However, I had a more of a feeling that the "manufacturing challenge" was closely related to a specific problem faced with the white units such as color fading as was experienced with the 3GS.

Take it for what its worth.... I was in the apple store yesterday and all the employees said August for the white iphone.

I predict white iPhone news tomorrow that will be interlaced between Apple's apologies to the press and public.

I'll raise you:

iPhone 4s off the assembly line should now be ok
white iPhone 4 available right now (or for pre-order for next week)

With all these rumors now of an internal antenna insulation I'm kind of glad I waited. Also you can bet that none of our white iPhones will have any screen yellowing, proximity sensor issues or other problems. We get version 1.1! :D

Com'on Apple, I'm counting on something definitive tomorrow!

I dont really care anymore. If there is no announcement tomorrow, I either buy black or a Droid X. I dont like not knowing things.

The thing is, how often are these business analysts right? 20% of the time? and are they ever dead-on? Not really.

I thought about that too but it sounds logical. Look, Apple needs to do *something* about this. You can't walk around with a cellphone that drops 20-25 dB when you hold it in your hand. The short term solution is to offer people money or a free bumper and the long term fix is to at least insulate the antenna somehow. They will do it and for their own sake, they will do it as soon as possible. I wouldn't be at all surprised tomorrow if they announce the insulation in all phones going forward and offer people the option to bring in their phone for a replacement or get a free bumper.

I'm banking on some news on the white iPhone front. I still don't mind using my 3GS in the meantime. But if Apple were to hypothetically drop the ball and not release the white iPhone until the fall, I might be inclined to bite the bullet and purchase the black. But then again, since my 3GS is working perfectly fine, I could also hold off a few more months as well. But hopefully that is not the case.

This is totally true. They will probably send out a letter to all iPhone 4 customers stating that if a customer has any network issues, to come in to an Apple store and get the phone replaced with a (presumably) insulated-antenna version. There's no doubt that they will fix the issue this way, but can the design/testing/manufacturing could have all gotten done in a month? I sure as hell hope so.

I think the idea of Apple giving out free bumper is so ridiculous, something tells me Apple would never accept defeat that way. If anything they MIGHT give out 30$ gift certificates.

Since they're in such a rut right now, I think Apple is going to do its best to not disappoint any customer/potential customer. In the last white iPhone 4 debacle, Apple said nothing until the last minute. This time, Apple said clearly that it'll be available then. There's no doubt in my mind they're going to deliver the white iPhone 4 by the end of this month.

You may be right but let's not lose sight of the fact that no matter what Apple says tomorrow, they will be admitting defeat. They almost have to at this point, anything less will just put them deeper down the hole. Also bumpers may cost $30 but they costs Apple probably less than $1 to make. A free bumper is still cheaper than a replacement for them.

Also from what I've been reading it looks like not many iPhones have gone on sale in recent weeks. Not many shipped to stores and then on the front page it says how peoples orders have gotten delayed. Fixing the process and fixing existing orders sitting at the factory are certainly possible in the 1.5 week window they have now had since they originally responded with the press release. Let's hope they started that early and not just after Consumer Reports started dominating the news.
