Test drive the new Moto X and HTC One Mini then get back to us. Beautiful 4.7 and 4.3 inch HD displays in form factors barely bigger than an iPhone.

I never said anything about hating 4.7 and 4.3 inch screens. You obviously missed my previous post where I called the Galaxy S4, and the Nexus 4 "decently" sized phone.

I'm sure apple is looking at the bigger picture, not just to unlock your device. C'mon think.

I was over simplifying it and using an example of unlocking the phone. But it goes to passwords/access in general. If I have to fumble with it a few times or enter a password I will just as easily enter the password. I'm pretty curious how accurate/reliable a first gen smartphone fingerprint scanner is going to be. Not saying it isn't going to be useful in the future just will have to see it in action first. First thoughts are that right now it's kind of a gimmick that's all.

Guess I'll have wait to see the fingerprint scanner in action, but personally I think it's kind of ringing like a "gimmick" to me. I really don't think entering a passcode or passwords are really that much of a pain in the butt and unless this thing is the most accurate scanner in the world and doesn't crap out on us (apple isn't the best with their home buttons) I'm sure I will still enter a simple 4 digit code to unlock my phone because it basically takes 3 seconds of my time. Which is pretty much muscle memory. Now if this thing scans fast, accurate and always works that would be cool but again not sure if it would get me off the iPhone 5.

Could sure use it while driving to invoke Siri for listening to text messages. I dislike having now to turn the passcode off and on for this very reason.

So what's the point? Are you an ax murderer? What do you care if your fingerprints are on file?.. I'd be more concerned with e-mail tracking, purchasing habits, things that define who you are. Fingerprints alone don't tell them anything about you.

The combination of your finger prints, with all the other information you have about yourself that they are vacuuming up from your iPhone tell them everything about you, and now they have your unique finger prints to top it off. I hate when people bring up propaganda like if you've done nothing wrong (ie you're not an ax murderer) then you've got nothing to hide. If you've done nothing wrong then you've also got no reason to be searched/have your finger print illegally collected by law enforcement. That's the way the US is supposed to work...

In theory you're absolutely right. But the way America has devolved into what it is now, I'd say a bit of privacy pain is a good dose of what the States needs.

While I must admit that I really look forward to it, I am pretty disappointed if Apple doesn´t have any more surprises for us up their sleeves.

really? this is the "tock" model on their tick-tock design pattern. it's quite a lot. these are phones, a maturing product category...gonna be hard to get flying cheeseburgers coming out of the screen.

With the same screen size, the 5S needs to have something significantly different from the 5/5C besides the outside shells and CPU's speed, otherwise lots people will just buy the 5C; and that's it! The finger scanner is a big deal - probably a game changer.

I don't like the idea of a fingerprint scanner at all.

It's not about what you or I don't want, it's all about Apple getting what they want. The value of the fingerprint reader is now they can prove our exact whereabouts, not just the phones location. This ramps up the value of the data Apple sells to those who eagerly await it. Que the attacks from those who worship and rely on Apples guidance. You know...the company that knows what's best for us :D

While the technology is certainly both awesome and useful, I'd personally never use the thing. Government spying has already reached worrisome extents - adding biometric information to the pool of spyable assets isn't exactly a good idea.

I think Apple should have went with wireless charging and perfected the fingerprint thing a bit more (if it even needs it).

I LOVE the wireless charging feature with my Lumia 920. It really is a huge convenience.

Wireless charging, my ___. 2 Lumia 920s lasted a few days with me so I can test pics while I was waiting for my iPhone 5. Bored to death with it's very few apps / annoying & mostly cheesy live tiles / apps.

I want that.. Too bad its too expensive

what on earth are you talking about? firstly the price hasn't been announced. secondly, it'll be the same as every year. selling my current iPhone always pays for the upgrade.

couldn't have said it any better.

Get off the internet and change your name, ASAP! Geebuz Christ! What meds / super paronoia planet are you into?

I just do not understand the paranoia over this fingerprint sensor. NSA? Really?

If you are comfortable with the current security, then stick with it. If you are that worried that the government will get your fingerprint, then there are other aspects of your life that you should reconsider.
