Also puts people out of jobs?
Yeah, because standing in a mile long line with carts overflowing while I just have 5 items, watching the under-paid cashier scanning items in slow motion and the person at the register paying with cash spending what seems like an hour looking for 7 cents so they have exact change, really gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that I'd doing the right thing. /s

I hate going to big box places as it is. The fact I can go in, get my stuff and scan my own items, pay in the app and leave right out the door is how it SHOULD be.

As far as people losing jobs, when Sam's (or Costco or the grocery store) have enough cashiers to fill all the registers when it's busy so the lines aren't as long, then apparently losing jobs isn't the problem...hiring enough people is.

Just order online then. Either way, you're contributing to the mess. Also, there is such a thing as the express lane, normally. Did you ever use an Amazon Go! store? You would have loved it. In some locales, however, the city required them to accept cash for payment, if the customer chose.

As an aside, I'm fine with self-check out and "scan and go" as long as the option to pay with cash with a real person is still an option.

I prefer Walmart Pay because when I use it in the store it records my order in Walmart's app, including all the items I purchased. That's proven very useful when I need to go back to see an item I bought or use the built-in receipt for returns.

Where are you that your Costco doesn't accept those? I've paid with Apple Pay at Costco for years.
Costco definitely accepts Visa and Apple Pay in their US stores. I solely use my phone to pay at the pump and in store. I’m assuming someone is still stuck in their Costco Amex(?) days.

Costco will be forced to Follow Walmart now and accept Apple 🍎 Pay and Visa 💳

They might be talking about Costco up in Canada. Should already be accepting Apple Pay.

Order online at Sam's Club? For what reason? To have to pick a one hour window tomorrow to pickup my items, which some things, like meat and produce, I prefer to pick myself?

Also pickup is not free at Sam's unless you spend a certain amount or have the more expensive membership.

It's easy, use scan and go to get in and out, or stand in line with a real under-paid human with everyone else. You have a choice, which is good. I choose convenience as do most people.

Society is becoming cashless. I know many people are against it, but many aren't. I rarely use cash and pay with methods tied to my checking account, and mostly using Apple Pay via my Apple Watch.

I wonder what made them change their mind? Everyone assumed that Walmart loved cherished that data they were getting from people’s credit cards 💳 and now with Apple 🍎 Pay that will of course be irrelevant and customers card info will be Private.
Most likely they were cornered. They had to choose between enabling tap to pay or going cash-only, and the latter obviously wasn’t really an option so they had to relent.

In Central America (same regional division as Mexico) Walmart started accepting contactless payments in February / March, so, I think it's just a matter of time for it to be accepted there as well.

I was talking about Wal-Mart.

I choose convenience as do most people.

Which, in a similar vein, is why air travel in the United States is so dismal. But that's another discussion and not this one.

Now if only US restaurants would get on board and start using pin pad gadgets AT the table instead of disappearing with my CC. More and more seem to be using them, thankfully, but when I went to Canada, I was amazed how ALL the restaurants had pin pad gadgets and that was years ago! We still haven't caught up.

Most of the restaurants around here either have the table top units that take tap to pay, or the check has a QR code on it for Toast and either is fine with me. So long as someone isn’t walking off with my card.

As far as Walmart. It’s about time. There’s a Walmart right up the street and I typically avoid it because it doesn’t take Apple Pay. Sometimes I’ll leave the house without my wallet but never without my phone. Walmart just became one of those “doesn’t exist” places for me. That’ll change.

And I KNOW Walmart is a soulless heartless megacorp. I shop small when I can. Still some mom and pop around here but not a lot. But that’s life in America theses days and guess what, we are all plugged into the corporate overlords.

I need routine re supplies of medical stuff like gloves, masks, medicine cups, etc. Best place for me to get all that stuff? Amazon. I don’t have to hunt around for it and I don’t have to expose myself going to the store. I don’t care if it’s cheaper or more. It’s just convenient.

And no, I’m not a germaphobe. I have a chronic condition that leaves me completely neutropenic at times and not having to venture into a storm when my condition is in relapse can absolutely save my life.

Ymmv, but in some cities such as Houston the number of restaurants not offering any option to pay at the table and still with the staff disappearing with your card is still rather high.
