Who stays in Walmart long enough to charge ⚡️ their car? 🚘 ⚡️💡🔋🔌
They are putting in a lot of Dc-fast chargers. It takes 20-40 minutes for most cars to charge on those chargers. Just enough time to go inside, use the restroom and buy some snacks. This is the 7-11 market. It brings in people who might not necessarily go to a Walmart.

Your aren't the town I'm talking about.
I'm talking about tons of small towns that get all their local businesses, across many retail domains, totally nuked.

I frequent these places all the time in the rural PNW.

Also, as an aside, Walmart is partly "cheaper" because they barely pay their staff to the point that many are on food stamps, which Walmart is all too happy to accept as payment themselves. It's not a great company.

(Yes, I realize many of the mega companies are awful ... just talking about Walmart in particular here as we are in this thread)
Then Amazon came along and nuked everybody. Even worse working conditions and consumers showered them with money. So who's at fault again?

I don't like that either.
That doesn't negate my points about Walmart.

Isn't there a term for that?
"whataboutism" I think it is called IIRC?

Large retailers avoided Apple Pay to force customers to use the retailer's app. This helped them collect more data on customers and steer customers towards their own payment platforms to eliminate transaction fees. What companies like Kroger and Walmart have found out is that most customers fund their purchases through Visa and Mastercard anyway, so they aren't avoiding the fees in most cases. I don't think the execs were necessarily scumbags. They made a bad judgment call and pursued a strategy that just didn't work.
the first half of your reply kind of contradicts your point about them not being scumbags. there’s very few ceos that aren’t scummy in one way or another

Do some research to find out WHY they are so cheap.
Don't care because I hate even more shopping at the corporate chains wasting my time trying to use their app to "clip" a digital coupon in order to get a halfway decent price on an item, nor am I interested in buying 10 of something to not have to overpay on just getting one. Just put the damn thing on sale for everyone and not need to jump through hoops to get a decent price. I don't need 5 12-packs of soda or 5 boxes of crackers. At least Walmart doesn't play those games.

My point is us consumers created and actively made them what they are today. Actually same with China and trade deficits People talk a good game...

I wonder what made them change their mind? Everyone assumed that Walmart loved cherished that data they were getting from people’s credit cards 💳 and now with Apple 🍎 Pay that will of course be irrelevant and customers card info will be Private.
They probably figured out a better way to track you.

High def cameras are so cheap now. What's to stop them capturing your car's tag# the moment you drive in. Then, as you walk across the parking lot they could capture your face or other biometrics. Now they can follow you around the store if they want and it doesn't matter how you pay - even if you use anonymous cash.

I haven't been inside a Wal-Mart in several years, but I'm all for more stores adopting tap-to-pay, especially one as big and ubiquitous as Wal-Mart. It's becoming the most common way to pay, and it isn't just younger people using it either.

Flock cameras coming soon to a Walmart near you!

I’m from the UK and every time I go to the US it surprises me how many retailers don’t offer tap to pay, or even chip and pin for that matter.

Every single retailer in the UK, even someone who has a stall on a market, accepts contactless payments here. Even public transport accepts it, there’s literally nothing and no one that doesn’t accept it. I’ve not carried a card with me for years, we never have to worry our phones aren’t accepted for payment anywhere. Even if we do carry a card we never have to hand it over to anyone to swipe it, in fact most UK citizens would refuse to hand over their card to anyone.

It’s about time the US caught up with the rest of the world. Not only is it more convenient, it’s safer to offer contactless payments.

Walmart U.S. comp sales in the second quarter grew 2.6 percent, versus 4.1 percent in the first quarter this year missing expectation of 3 percent to 3.5 percent … stock was down 10 percent … I think that was a surprise for the top management and due to the fact they have an ace in the hole (the hw was there for a while otherwise you can’t update all stores by the end of 2026…) they simply play that card.

To wait it was an insult for the customer that’s it…

Now Mr.Musk, how long do you plan to wait to enable CarPlay in your Teslas?

Now if only US restaurants would get on board and start using pin pad gadgets AT the table instead of disappearing with my CC. More and more seem to be using them, thankfully, but when I went to Canada, I was amazed how ALL the restaurants had pin pad gadgets and that was years ago! We still haven't caught up.

I use Walmart pay every time I want to record a purchase.
It's great that I can search my history to figure out furnace filter size, or type of toothpaste I bought last time...

This is quickly starting to change around me (DC area). Not everywhere, to be clear, but it seems like they do that at least half the time now.
