It was the most orderly system I've ever seen at an Apple launch. The lady just wrote down everyone's initials by the ones they wanted and then we milled around until about 20 till midnight. Waited one hour total but got to walk around Walmart.

Which one did you go to in Charlotte?
In comstock park michigan they had 4. There were about a dozen of us in line and they didn't bother to tell us until 3 minutes before midnight. I hate walmart.
The one at the Arboretum. Both employees there were extremely nice and knowledgable.

At mine, the lady turned people away after all of them were spoken for. Only the people who got their name on the list were the ones in line. And they started the list at 11pm
I got there at 11pm but they didn't bother telling me where the line was. I stumbled on it about 15 minutes after 11pm. Needless to say i was number 6 or 7 in line. I had no chance.
Guys, i preordered my iPad for store pickup......will i have to battle through the lines? Or can i stroll in at anytime to pick up my preorder?
It's going to be a crapshoot. First of all, it isn't as if Wal-Mart promoted this all that much. I get the sense that someone in Bentonville read about Telestra's promotion in Sydney this morning and got the idea. Second, Wal-Mart isn't exactly known as an Apple reseller. Third, given how many stores there are in towns of all sizes, they couldn't possibly get quantities right for something that is released so infrequently. It isn't as if they are forecasting sales of laundry detergent.
Does anyone who has a midnight Walmart iPad checked to see what the screen looks like in direct sunlight? I am hoping it is not as washed out as the iPad and iPad 2.

Don't laugh. In line right now. 4 hours and 53 minutes left. At least I'm sitting in a chair inside the store.
