I'll be the resident grammar nazi.

On your website it says:

This should either be modified to say

or

or even better

Yeah, I was a bit tired when I wrote it up, intending to repair the grammar errors in the morning. I fixing them up as we speak.

I'm so proud of my little brother....

I think it all went very well...

not bad for a couple of macrumors newbies, eh?

haha... You should market this app, I'd pay for it if I ever had another house guest for sure.

you guys really need to Digg it up! to add to the prank.

if this makes a front page, then it'll be an epic prank.

These are really my brothers that are the original pranker and prankee.

First of all, I am so proud of my brother. He started this thread, and got my other brother. Much mucho props go out to avi, for making everything possible and keeping this from being a one page thread about sticky keyboard jokes. I'm conflicted on the digg, cause I don't know if he needs that much notoriety (although I digged it myself)

Since avi seems to be open to suggestions, I have a few. I don't know if these are possible, but they might add something.

Video. If possible, display to the prankee a live feed on a 1-2 second delay. This, imho, would add to the shocked, confused looks that everyone is looking for. If you could have two video windows open, and one on a 2-3 second loop of "the act" originally being caught, this would be phenomenal, and add a touch of frantic behavior to the mix.

Also, I believe this has been suggested already, but changing the text speak to an MP3, rename any MP3 to XX.MP3 and have it play at some point.

Once again, major props to avihappy.

Derek, thank you for the ammunition.

The live video feed is likely not possible, because the app has an image snapper that would conflict with the live feed (only one process may use the iSight at any given time). As it stands, there is a little window that shows the pictures on a delay, pretending to upload them. Also, as I understand it, you are suggesting to let the prankster select an mp3 file and then play it. Is that right?

Also, I was happy to help with this!

I'm obviously too late finding this thread - but one addition you could add to this prank for future use is voice synthesis; I've done this in the past and it worked a treat.

You could create an Applescript to speak to him as he "works". My recommendation - use the "Whisper" voice, and with the speaking volume down low so it's just barely audible. "I like you watching me, (insert his name here)" If that doesn't freak him out, nothing will!

Or you could just use the Hysterical voice, and turn it up full volume; if you want to totally crush his self esteem. :p

Even better, if you have another Mac or PC, you can log in via telnet/ssh and tell the computer what to say "live".

This is how:

Code:
osascirpt -e 'set volume 3'
osascript -e 'say "Look behind youuuu" using "Whisper"'

Enjoy.
:D

I was thinking it might be cool, after the photo, to pop up a youtube video of that masterbating bear from Conan doing what he does best :D

Hmm, I haven't seen that video, but even if I had, wouldn't that be against the rules to put up a version that displays a video of a bear doing it?

Actually, masterbating bear has been on prime-time tv. I was thinking it would be funny if the person getting caught sees it ;)

In the part where you tell Alex what to say, is there a way to insert a dropdown menu to select a different voice?

OK, you can get it here, and it will be posted to the site: http://localhostr.com/files/e668ca/iSight+Spycam+13.zip

This thread was great to read.

@ avi- you should put a section on your website where people can upload their "caught in the act" photos.

I would, except that I can't write a site if my life depended on it. I just used iWeb to make it :p

What the app really needs is a couple more steps.

A dummy "Uploading Picture..." dialogue box with a fake progress bar should pop up before taking another picture.

After that's done a "Starting streaming web cam..." dialogue with a quick progress bar that opens a window showing what the iSight is seeing...

Then another picture or two...

How about "Uploading Picture to Facebook" or something like that. This thread has been great. Thanks for the laughs.

It is does say "Uploading to Flickr..." right now. I think that works fine, since the shock is that it looks like it is being uploaded to a high profile site.

If he is under age, ANY pic sent, could be considered as Child Porn, and is a criminal offense.

What is your problem? Stop trying to "police" the forums and ruin the banter. No one is posting "child pornography" so stop even trying to lower this thread.

First, it doesn't actually send images, it just pretends to. Second, this guy wasn't a kid, we was an adult male. Third, the resultant images were not in any way pornographic. Check page 5

The "Prank" is bordering on offensive.

I don't see how it is offensive. The prank resulted in a mugshot, it's not like you saw him sitting naked in his chair. Probably the most "offensive" thing about this thread are some of the jokes, par for the course on an internet forum. It's just a brother playing a prank on another brother for doing something he was told not to do. I am sure there have been more "offensive" threads on macrumors.
