Ok, so to be clear, can you explain OP the exact thing we need to do? I'm lost :( And does this work if you restore to 4.0? or it has to be 4.0.1?

I'm also curious because I fear 4.0.1 won't have unlock but i don't know (when it is released).

i updated to 4.0.1 THEN jailbroke and sent 2 MMS and it worked. haven't tried facetime though

Restored, Setup as new phone, JB, Restored backup. then everytime ive restarted both facetime and MMS stayed put.

Restore & Updated to 4.0.1, then Jailbroke, rebooted phone and MMS and Facetime is gone.

I set it up as new phone and didn't restore using a backup. I hope the tool will be updated soon.

EDIT: Restored using fresh backup of 4.0.1 right before I jailbroke and I now have MMS and Facetime back.

Thank you OP, worked for me as well !

I restored
Jailbroke
Restarted
Set up from backup (one from July 15th)

A million thanks to you!

you want to restore your backup before rebooting. that seems to be the step that most over look. before all this I wouldnt have thought it would matter but apparently it does.

Thank god for this fix. Just got my iPhone 4 today and couldn't think about living without JB. Comex seems to be tweeting out that just restoring from backup will fix it. Anybody try that or is the restore absolutely required?

This isn't difficult and seems to be not working for the people who aren't following it EXACTLY. So pay attention.

1. Restore to fresh 4.0.1.
2. Right when it activates after restoring, JB it.
3. Restore from an older backup.

You HAVE to do all 3 AFAIK.

Facetime and MMS are working for me. This is what I did:

Was on 4.0
Backed up
Tried to upgrade to 4.0.1 (upgrade failed and told me I had to restore)
Restored from last backup (which was from 10 minutes earlier - this took a long time because 30gb of data was transferred to the phone).
Jailbroke

Facetime and MMS still work for me. Though I'm scared to reboot the phone...

Basically the JB loses the MMS and FT settings, so what you need to do is restore form a backup (a backup that was not JB) and after the restore, the settings for MMS & FT will be recognized again.

It's just important that you don't have your JB iPhone do a backup first, or else when you restore from backup it'll be restoring from that JB backup which already lost the settings. If this does happen, then you'll need to completely restore.

So what you should be able to do is JB your phone, connect to iTunes and cancel the sync and then restore from backup.

Just restoring from a backup will do it. No need to do the restore and re-jailbreak.

Make sure that the backup was not the latest backup, which is likely to be the backup POST-jailbreak.

that makes alot of sense I bet thats it. I bet its the fact that my backups are BEFORE my jailbreak! Editing first post again!

Exactly, all that needs to be done is restore from a pre-JB backup and you will be fine. So if you backup your phone, JB it, then connect it and cancel the sync so it doesn't backup the JB settings, you should be able to keep your phone exactly in the condition it was by doing restore from backup.

Or instead of canceling the sync you can just make a copy of your backup folder and then after the phone syncs replace the backup folder with the copy that way the old backup overwrites the new one. Probably the most fail safe thing to.

I think that may be the key point. The first time I tried it was from a backup I made when restoring so then I used the earlier backup the second time.

1: Restore
2: Backup
3: Jailbreak
4: restore from last (just Backed up) Back up. If that makes any sense
Aside from loosing texts etc. This should work correct?

No if you backup from what is corrupt you will just end up with it no mms and facetime again
