want to keep facetime AND jailbreak? heres how....

1: Restore
2: Backup
3: Jailbreak
4: restore from last (just Backed up) Back up. If that makes any sense
Aside from loosing texts etc. This should work correct?

that should work. if you have a backup thats from a non jailbroken phone already you wont even have to restore.

I think that may be the key point. The first time I tried it was from a backup I made when restoring so then I used the earlier backup the second time.

This is exactly it.
1) Backup pre JB
2) JB
3) cancel sync when you respring
4) restore from backup.

Cydia, sbsettings, etc still working after the restore. awesome!

Just restoring from a backup will do it. No need to do the restore and re-jailbreak.

Make sure that the backup was not the latest backup, which is likely to be the backup POST-jailbreak.

This did it for me =) Thanks.

And thanks to the OP for this thread!

This isn't difficult and seems to be not working for the people who aren't following it EXACTLY. So pay attention.

1. Restore to fresh 4.0.1.
2. Right when it activates after restoring, JB it.
3. Restore from an older backup.

You HAVE to do all 3 AFAIK.

Ok I'm confused. Before I jailbroke I did a backup of 4.0 then updated to 4.0.1 and jailbroke. What I don't understand is how to restore from a backup without doing a second restore? I don't want to lose my app data by setting up as a new phone.

What exactly do you guys mean by "Restore from backup"? vs a regular Restore? Don't you just click "Restore" in iTunes and go through the procedure?

No if you backup from what is corrupt you will just end up with it no mms and facetime again

if he restores and then does a backup wont the backup be of a fresh firmware? remember hes backing up BEFORE jailbreaking and thats what he needs.

maybe i am missing something :(

i did a full restore.

then i jailbroke the phone

then for whatever reason i cannot restore from backup (i know im missing something) but how do i get to select this option again? tia!

Interesting

Lost MMS & FT

So I Restored to Factory Settings, not from BackUp. MMS & FT is now back.

Then JB, rebooted. Now it's MMS & FT is gone again.

So if I backup my JB'ed iP4, and then wipe it and restore it. I'll still not have MMS or FT? Even if I dont re-jailbrake?

right click on your phone in the itunes list. youll see restore backup. it just puts all your settings on the phone. doesnt reinstall firmware.

This worked for me. Nice one OP. After messing around with my phone I think I can see what's going wrong. The first time I jailbroke I noticed the settings in network settings had defaulted back to their original values (which isn't correct for my sim). I tried reset network settings and things got weird. It took ages to reopen network settings and when it did the values were blank.

I believe the jailbreak corrupts your network settings (which is why FaceTime and MMS stop working). This is why restoring from a backup (which restores the network settings) works. But the important point here is the backup has to be from BEFORE you jailbroke. For those without an uncorrupted network setting backup you may be out of luck until comex fixes the bug, or you just have to use a fresh restore

1) Backup (before any JB)
2) DFU Restore
3) JB
4) Restore from backup created in step 1.
5) Profit!!

Works.

Can someone answer this? I'm a bit confused.

At the end of this whole process, will I lose any data (i.e. music, texts, etc)? Step 4 from OP says "restore from backup"...the backup is the preJB backup, correct?

yes you shouldnt lose anything as long as that backup is right before the jailbreak.

OK so I thought I had backups but they got screwed up.

if i just restore to 4.0.1 and jailbreak and then start syncing apps/contacts (not from a backup but just syncing those things) think I will be good to go?
