I, for one, was always fond of the blackbook and think a black brushed aluminum mba w/ polished black apple (instead of illuminated) would be drop dead sexy and sleek. After all, black is slimming! :p

Yes, black would be great. Still, I am more interested in the features of the upcoming MacBook Air than in its colors.

Sorry but lets not forget what black brushed aluminium iphone 5 scratch problem was...so no

I have a strange feeling that Apple's obsession with "thinner = better" will bring an underwhelming update. I just want them to slap a retina on the current MBA, reduce the bezels (making it 12 and 14) and voila, ready to go :).

Pricing

Many write-ups on the new MBA state that Apple is trying to achieve a lower price point (mostly attributed to the purported Type-C USB port).

I don't buy it, especially if they incorporate a retina display. Regardless of what they do to drive costs down on their end, I don't see the consumer reaping any benefits.

Has Apple ever really been THAT concerned about pricing?

Curious what everyone thinks about the pricing...

I expect pricing to be similar to the current MBA lineup.

I'd rather pay a couple hundred more dollars and get a product that doesn't decline for a few years than a sloppy, hashed-out product that they put out just to make it cheaper.

Type-C USB is cutting edge, ink-barely-dry-on-the-spec-sheets technology.

How is that supposed to lower the price??

With that being said, where do you think pricing will actually fall?

On another note, has Apple ever been quick to adopt new cutting edge tech? We've seen them gamble with their own proprietary ports before but how about, as you put it, "ink-barely-dry-on-the-spec-sheets technology?"

USB when nobody else was using it. FireWire when nobody else was using it. Thunderbolt when nobody else was using it. Yes I think they have quite a track record of doing that.

Aren't those proprietary though? (Aside from USB)

i personally think it says a lot to me if apple doesn't include a thunderbolt port in the new mba.

What do you mean by this? What does it say about them?

Anyone have an opinions/thoughts on pricing?

-Just speculating entry price, I was thinking that it would have to be cheaper than the 13" MBPr ( 1299 ). Most my reasoning behind that is from a sheer marketing standpoint having a more expensive computer with a smaller screen size, albeit retina, would seem a bit odd. The new 12" may be slimmer, but the compromise for ports would make the difference.

-With all that aside, I don't think it would be much cheaper than the base 13" MBPr. I'm hoping it would just start at the base price of the current 13" Air but I really doubt it. I have a hunch it will be 1099/1199 ( trying to keep the margins as high as possible on a new product ). As a result, the current Airs will be eviscerated along with the retina-less MBP.

Good idea re: trying to guess price based on current lineup.

12" retina MBA should be a little cheaper than the rMBP. Maybe $100 cheaper. Will almost certainly have a slower processor and they can also give it less RAM (4GB) as they do now, to differentiate it.

no thunderbolt means apple is saying, "Hey professionals, don't buy this laptop."

Or "hey professionals, forget thunderbolt 3, get USB stuff"

Right. I just hope they retain thunderbolt. I just got a rMBP along with a Thunderbolt Display. I'd like to be able to use this display on future macs. Way too expensive to upgrade with every computer purchase.

A decade long mac user, I have owned pretty much every new piece of hardware that Apple releases with no urge to buy a windows machine.

I have had every model of Macbook Air, Macbook Pro & iMac (Since the metallic model)

Apple should really pay attention to this next release, look at the new XPS 13, I am really tempted to go and pick one of these beauties up. It looks like a great machine and Windows has been looking more and more appealing due to the lack of shine on OS X.

The only thing holding me back from buying one is the 12 inch macbook air on the horizon, I am almost sure it will disappoint and the XPS 13 will be my new work machine.
