I'm sorry, but could you please post a screen shot of your of your computer's retina display. I'd like to imagine how small the text really is. I'm finding it hard to believe that someone really uses the screen at maximum resolution.

Here it is (finally):

this scares me a bit...i love my silver aluminum but this prediction sounds like Apple will go all the way to "unapologetically plastic" territory to compete with stuff like Surface....

I don't think Apple will go the "unapologetically plastic" way this time. The iPhone 5c is heavier than the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5s due to the use of plastic. And Apple will want the MacBook Air to be as thin and light as it can be. Perhaps carbon fiber, but not plastic.

It appears that the screen shots do not give the real sense of the pixel size. When I click on the links, they show an easily readable screen and when I click on the image, it shows an enlarged version.

I would think that taking a photo from where the user's eyes are would give a better sense of trying to read the materials than a screenshot would.

This makes so much sense I'm surprised it hasn't been offered already. Especially when they've worked out the iPad plans pretty well.

Not only that, Google has put out a line up of LTE enabled "Chrome Books" (which are crap btw..) so it's not impossible or illogical.
I hope this is something they include in the next update.

To the above, I quite like my Chromebooks. It is one of the few laptops I have given to my SO and received zero complaint, and no support requests. Just try not to view it as a full PC, more of a vision of where we're headed.

That said, I'll be damned if I would give up the build quality of the MBA for the Series 3...

The screensaver shot I posted earlier opened up in Safari and to my eyes at least looked exactly the same as the original, Web page, which I photographed. Bottom line, I have never scaled anything on my MBPr. I use the Best for Display setting exclusively. I should add that I often couldn't do that with my 13 inch MBA and had to zoom in if I wanted to read the print on the screen comfortably.

Attached is a screenshot I just took of a Web page that uses about the smallest fonts in the universe. I compared the screenshot to the Web page and they looked identical to me. I always had to zoom Web pages from that site with my MBA but never do so with my MBPr.

This screenshot is the same as the others to me. It just enlarges on my screen which I click on the image.

It is now clear to me that I will use the new upcoming retina MBA in the maximum resolution mode (I have good vision up close).

I think you need to go to an Apple store to decide for yourself. The point is that ALL of his screen is readable and you have to zoom in. That's why the screen is so much better.

if i have an external full hd screen which is still inferior to Retina display
how it will work then?
if rumors about Retina on next MBA were confirmed
will screen lose sharpness?

Lose sharpness? What will lose sharpness? What do you mean?

Retina display will be superior to my current 24 screen
most of screens on the market are just in Full HD
how upscale Retina on inferior display then?

I guess the display will continue working as always. It will display images in Full HD, and the retina display of the laptop will display images in whatever resolution it has. You simply can't change that. Of course the retina display will have a much sharper screen than the larger display.

why did everyone suddenly stopped warming up in this thread it's very cold...;)

I know! I keep hoping it will start up again. :)

I love discussing the possibilities of 2014 MBA getting a retina screen. I think what we need is some news or rumors to stimulate the ongoing discussion. It's been rather dry lately.

(I think we've pretty much beat all of the previous points to death)

Uhm, the reason Apple isn't offering an cellular/LTE enabled MacBook is because they want you to own both the iPad and the MacBook. It's called product differentiation, and it's evil.

That makes complete sense. Still want the cellular available on my Air.:D

get a cellular portable wi-fi unit (about the size of an iPhone) and never have to buy a cellular device again

to buy it costs half the price of adding cellular to an iPad so theres already a win, and it costs the same per month as an iPad, iPhone, 4g dongle, etc and works on all your devices

its not a burden as its basically a wifi network which your device connects to automatically when in range, which it will be if you leave it in your pocket/bag

the battery outlasts the iPad/mac/iphone

i don't know why anyone would buy separate plans for all their stuff

I definitely don't want the new 12" retina MBA (rumored) to have a cellular option. That means it would be bigger or thicker to accommodate that option.

12" for the rumored 2014 MBA? No thanks... 13" is small enough, haha.

As nice as I'm sure the Retina display would be, I'd actually prefer a 13" non-retina. :)

Why do you prefer a non-retina Mac than a retina Mac? This is something I simply cannot understand.

You didn't read my post: I prefer retina (obviously) but I rank size over retina in this case. In my opinion, 13"+Normal screen > 12"+Retina.

In this context, I understand what you meant.

What about the 13" retina MacBook Pro? Can't it replace the 13" Air?
